  • Sometimes, you just need a good anime to make you cry. Much like the tragic elements of the romance in Your Name, A Silent Voice is a beautiful combination of heartache and love. Shouya Ishida has not always been the best person; as a child, his favorite pass time would be to bully a deaf girl from his class, Shouko Nishimiya. Despite not being the only one to bully her, he's the one singled out of the class for all the pain brought upon Shouko and ostracized by classmates and teachers alike. Now in high school, he's still haunted and wishes to make amends. This leads to a journey to meet and befriend Shouko years later.

  • Meiko "Menma" Honma just won't seem to leave Jinta Yadomi alone; it's as though he's being haunted by more than just the past. Jinta has been living a life as a shut-in for quite some time, not daring to leave his home for anything, even school. Trying to ignore the apparition of his long-since-dead friend Menma, she gets even more agitated. All she wants is for him and their mutual friends to fulfill their shared childhood wish. Despite time having passed and the friends being distant, Jinta decides it's time to honor Menma's wishes, despite her no longer being a part of the living world.

  • If you're looking for a series that's a little more recent, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai is a fresh series that's all about romance and phenomenons. Sakuta Azusagawa, a second-year high school student, has had multiple run-ins with the infamous "puberty syndrome;" a phenomenon that affects various youth in unique ways and typically makes things increasingly difficult. One such encounter happens when he sees the famous actress, and fellow classmate, Mai Sakurajima, dressed up in a bunny outfit at the library. Despite her odd and beautiful appearance, no one but him seems to be able to see her. As he tries to help Mai with her puberty syndrome, the two begin to grow closer, learning more about each other.

  • When Akari Shinohara's family moves away, she leaves behind a very close friend; Takaki Toono. While they've still kept in touch through mail, the distance between them continues to grow. Takaki decides it's finally time to meet Akari one last time before his family also moves away. The series shows what happens when friends grow distant as we get older, but how we can still cherish those memories regardless. If you want something that showcases two people's lives in a different way, like Your Name, this would be a great and short series to start with.

    ERASED

It started with one tragedy, but continued with several others; Satoru Fujinuma is set back in time seven minutes before a tragedy happens. Calling this power "Revival" he decides it's time to take advantage of it in order to save lives. But the power goes even further after he's accused of attacking someone close to him and sent back to 1988 when a classmate of his was killed. Now he must find out what happened to Kayo Hinazuki, a girl from the past, and figure out how it may be connected to the events of the future. Is it possible for him to change these outcomes? Much like Your Name, this series has everything to do with changing the events of the past in hopes of a better future.

    Orange

Naho Takamiya has received a strange letter claiming to be from her future self. At first, she tries not to think much of it, but when the contents of the various letters suddenly become true, she has no choice but to believe them. From them, she learns that her future self wants to change events in the past in order to prevent her greatest regret from ever happening. For some reason, these notes stress to keep an eye on Kakeru Naruse, the new transfer student who seems to be going through a rough time. As Naho and her friends find out more about both the future and the present, they work together to prevent various mistakes from happening. Orange is heartbreaking, but also a beautiful slice of life mixed in with supernatural phenomenons, much like Your Name

    Charlotte

The supernatural is part of what gives Your Name its charm. If you want something with the same out-of-this-world theme, alongside a little bit of romance and friendship, Charlotte is a followup like no other. Yuu Otosaka may seem smart, but he actually just has a very interesting ability; he can control a person's mind and body for five seconds at a time. Because of this, he appears to be a model student when he's really just a cheat. Nao Tomori has caught him using this ability and has now forced his hand in order for him to attend Hoshinoumi Academy, a school for kids with supernatural powers. However, he must also assist her in capturing kids who abuse these gifts, in order to keep the world a safer place.

  • Patema is a royal in a strange underground system full of tunnels to explore. Despite her explorations being incredibly off limits, Patema is determined to reveal their secrets after a friend of hers went missing. One day, things take an unusual turn when she enters the "forbidden zone" and falls through a bottomless pit. She finds herself in the surface world, falling through the skies until she's saved by a boy named Age who lives in a nation known as Aiga. The people of this new land frown upon "Inverts" such as Patema, but they find a friendship nonetheless. This movie shows just how exquisite the world can be when two strangers meet and decide to explore the unknown.

  • Steins;Gate is a classic that any anime fan should see at least once, but if you need a reason to watch it, it also doubles as a great followup to Your Name. Rintarou Okabe is a mad scientist that's been working on his latest invention, the "Phone Microwave" alongside his lab assistants. For some reason, all this gadget can do so far is turn bananas into green gel, but it seems to hold more promise than that. When the phone begins sending emails to the past, the group may have finally made the scientific breakthrough they were looking for. However, this also means messing with the flow of history. Much like Your Name, there's a heavy time element that makes it extremely compelling to watch.

    Hal

Kurumi lost the love of her life to a tragic airplane accident. With a broken heart, she locks herself in her home, unable to face the outside world without Hal. Seeing her in such despair, her grandfather sends a humanoid robot, known as Q01, on a mission in hopes of bringing Kurumi back to the world of the living. Looking like her deceased lover, the Q01, going by Hal, continues to arrive at Kurumi's home in hopes of cheering her up. Slowly, she begins to awaken from her depression and learn more about the android that has changed her life. While this movie is unusual, it's a beautiful love story that will certainly warm your heart after watching Your Name
