My sister and her family live on a beautiful farm where they get to see sunrises like this. We had a wonderful time at their house on Christmas Eve! After a scrumptious meal and her grandbabies launching lots of gift wrap, the conversation with these dear people was long and sweet.
January can be cold and snowy here in Arkansas. My sister's birthday is at the end of the month. I was thinking about her when I stumbled across a free tutorial for cozy Flannel Scarves! What a perfect gift for a January birthday!
I went kind of crazy purchasing fabric and made six scarves for her! Still a little too excited, they were mailed way before her birthday, at the beginning of the month. I said I wanted her to stay extra warm in case the weather was harsh, but I really just wanted to give them to her right away! They turned out so soft and snuggly! She didn't mind!
Here she is happily modeling one. Isn't my sister beautiful?
I'd love to have ideas for her birthday next year. What do you think would be a nice gift for a January Birthday Girl?
Giving credit where credit is due, all the photos in this post were taken by my sister.

oh sad. I was hoping you were in Fayetteville NC. But next time we are in Arkansas I am gonna look you up :)
ReplyDeleteMy sister is a January girl, too! I have given her a lot of scarves over the years, too!! :)
ReplyDeleteWow - what a lucky sister!
ReplyDeleteA great gift, Marci and a lucky sister. Mind you, it's way too hot for me to be thinking about Winter at the moment.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice Birthday present for your sister, I'm sure she appreciated it.
ReplyDeleteIngredients:
⅓ cup soy sauce ( used light soy sauce)
1/4 cup water
3.5 tablespoons sesame oil or canola oil( used toasted sesame oil)
2 tablespoons honey + 1 tablespoon sugar
1 dash fish sauce
3 tablespoons vinegar + a squeeze of lime if you have it ( I had a key lime left so I squeezed that into the vinegar)
5 cloves finely minced garlic
1 piece fresh grated ginger (1-2 tablespoons)
1 minced hot pepper (i.e. jalapeno, chili pepper, etc) ( had a good size jalapeno)
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons peanut butter (optional) ( didn't use)
1 1/2 lbs. pork cut into thin strips
9 oz. rice noodles
grated carrots, chopped scallions, chopped peanuts, cilantro ( cut up a green pepper)
Directions:
Whisk the sauce ingredients -soy sauce, water, oil, honey, sugar, fish sauce, vinegar, garlic, ginger, peppers, hoisin. You could also puree the sauce in a food processor or a magic bullet to get the garlic, peppers, and ginger smooth.
Marinate the pork in the sauce overnight or for at least a few hours. I marinated all day, about 6 hours.
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium high heat and stir-fry the pork until browned on the outside. Discard the extra sauce that the pork marinated in.
Cook your rice noodles according to package directions. Keep a little bit of liquid with the noodles to make sure it doesn't dry out. Top with pork, carrots, scallions, green pepper and extra sauce of choice (more hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sweet chili garlic sauce, sesame oil, etc).
What a beautiful gift for your sweet sister :) I had to smile when you said how eager you were....I get that way too! Thanks for sharing at Roses of Inspiration, dear Marci. Hugs!

What a wonderful gift and I'm sure very warm.
ReplyDeleteOh your sister is very beautiful, as are you! Good looks must run in your family! I think the warm scarves were a perfect gift. I'm just getting my sewing machine going now, so I have no suggestions as of yet...but maybe I'll learn to sew something suggestable! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love the fabrics you chose to make the scarves. I'm a Jan. baby too and I love crafty things. Thanks for sharing on Merry Monday.
