Pre-Order Campaign- STAIN by A.G. Howard

Hello! We are just ONE WEEK away from the release of Stain by A.G. Howard. I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this one. There is a pretty great pre-order deal going on so I wanted to spotlight it here for you. Check out this awesomeness!!!

About the Book:

A high-fantasy gothic fairytale inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Princess and the Pea.

Once upon a nightmare, her fairy tale begins…

After Lyra—a princess incapable of speech or sound—is cast out of her kingdom of daylight by her wicked aunt, a witch saves her life, steals her memories, and raises her in an enchanted forest … disguised as a boy known only as Stain. Meanwhile, in Lyra’s rival kingdom, the prince of thorns and night is dying, and the only way for him to break his curse is to wed the princess of daylight, for she is his true equal. As Lyra rediscovers her identity, an impostor princess prepares to steal her betrothed prince and her crown. To win back her kingdom, save the prince, and make peace with the land of the night, Lyra must be loud enough to be heard without a voice, and strong enough to pass a series of tests—ultimately proving she’s everything a traditional princess is not.

About the A.G.:

International and NYT best-selling author, Anita Grace Howard, lives in the Texas panhandle. She is most at home weaving the melancholy and macabre into settings and scenes, twisting the expected into the unexpected. She’s inspired by all things flawed, utilizing the complex loveliness of human conditions and raw emotions to give her characters life, then turning their world upside down so the reader’s blood will race.

Married and mother of two teens (as well as surrogate mom to two Guinea pigs and one Labrador retriever), Anita divides her days between spending time with her family and plodding along or plotting on her next book.

When she’s not writing, Anita enjoys rollerblading, biking, snow skiing, gardening, and family vacations that at any given time might include an impromptu side trip to an 18th century graveyard or a condemned schoolhouse for photo ops.

There have been some unexpected publishing glitches, so if you can’t find the title available in PB or nook by the 15th, make sure to keep checking and it should be available within the next few days.

For close to a decade, twenty-five-year-old Felicity Lonsdale has masqueraded as a dowager almost twice her age—selling caterpillars to butterfly consortiums—enabling her to hide an ill-fated past while raising her late brother’s daughters. Together, the three live on an isolated Irish estate bequeathed by a dying earl. When the earl’s estranged son arrives to claim his inheritance by threatening to expose Felicity’s true identity, she longs to pack up her nieces and run. But a ghostly secret within the castle’s turret holds her captive.

Nick Thornton—a Roma viscount’s heir—is also captive. After a tryst with an investor’s wife nearly destroyed his family’s holiday resort, Nick forsook everything to elope with her. However, a tragic mistake at his hand led to her and his baby’s deaths. Refusing to turn to the family he shamed, Nick travels to seek the countess who once co-wrote a romance with his sister. There’s rumor of a special butterfly in her keep—a transparent-winged species with ties to the afterlife. Nick hopes to contact his dead wife and child, for only their forgiveness can free him.

Upon his arrival to Felicity’s estate, Nick offers to help her defeat the earl’s son, on the condition she allow Nick to investigate her glass butterflies. Felicity agrees, though fears the closer he gets to the ghosts of his past, the closer he’ll come to uncovering her own. As Nick spends time with Felicity and her nieces, he realizes the mystery enshrouding this fragile countess and her castle is more intriguing than the ghosts he originally came to find. And perhaps putting his dead to rest and helping her do the same will be his true path to redemption.

Author: A.G. Howard
Pub. Date: August 15, 2017
Publisher: Golden Orb Press
Pages: 339
Formats: Paperback, eBook

Set 19 years after The Architect of Song:

Shortly after escaping a circus tragedy, young Italian orphan, Willow Antoniette, seeks refuge at The Manor of Diversions—a holiday resort in England born of a ghost story. For eleven years, she’s raised alongside the children of the resort’s owners: Julian, his twin brother, Nick, and their younger sister Emilia. Now that Willow is of marriable age, she's determined to escape finishing school along with everyone's efforts to make her a proper lady. The only man she wants to spend her life with is Julian, after all. Yet how can she tell him, when he thinks of her as nothing but a friend?

As a machinist and engineer, Julian Thornton prefers a governable life. He can't allow his ever-deepening attraction for Willow to distract from his amusement park plans to lure a younger, wealthier clientele to their family's resort. In hopes to escape Willow and find investors, Julian sets off on a transatlantic ocean liner headed for the St. Louis World’s Fair, unaware Willow has secretly stowed away on the same ship.

A tiny, mute orphan named Newton and a pair of haunted Italian shoes bring Willow and Julian face to face on deck. Forced to work together to solve the mystery of Newton and his vindictive, ghostly companion, Julian and Willow can no longer fight their untapped passions. However, time to admit their true feelings is running out, for the ghost and her murderer have enlisted them as unsuspecting pawns in a karmic game of cat-and-mouse that could cost all of them their lives.

Title: THE ARCHITECT OF SONG
Author: A.G. Howard
Pub. Date: August 15, 2016
Publisher: Golden Orb Press
Pages: 425
Formats: Paperback, eBook

A lady imprisoned by deafness, an architect imprisoned by his past, and a ghost imprisoned within the petals of a flower - intertwine in this love story that transcends life and death.

For most of her life, nineteen-year-old Juliet Emerline has subsisted – isolated by deafness – making hats in the solitude of her home. Now, she’s at risk to lose her sanctuary to Lord Nicolas Thornton, a twenty-seven-year-old mysterious and eccentric architect with designs on her humble estate. When she secretly witnesses him raging beside a grave, Juliet investigates, finding the name “Hawk” on the headstone and an unusual flower at the base. The moment Juliet touches the petals, a young English nobleman appears in ghostly form, singing a song only her deaf ears can hear. The ghost remembers nothing of his identity or death, other than the one name that haunts his afterlife: Thornton.

To avenge her ghostly companion and save her estate, Juliet pushes aside her fear of society and travels to Lord Thornton’s secluded holiday resort, posing as a hat maker in one of his boutiques. There, she finds herself questioning who to trust: the architect of flesh and bones who can relate to her through romantic gestures, heartfelt notes, and sensual touches … or the specter who serenades her with beautiful songs and ardent words, touching her mind and soul like no other man ever can. As sinister truths behind Lord Thornton’s interest in her estate and his tie to Hawk come to light, Juliet is lured into a web of secrets. But it’s too late for escape, and the tragic love taking seed in her heart will alter her silent world forever.

International and NYT bestselling author, A.G. Howard, brings her darkly magical and visual/visceral storytelling to Victorian England. The Architect of Song is the first installment in her lush and romantic Haunted Hearts Legacy series, a four book gothic saga following the generations of one family as - haunted by both literal and figurative ghosts - they search for self-acceptance, love, and happiness.

New Adult: Recommended for ages 17+.

Excerpt:

In the dream, Willow was a child again. With each barefooted step around the stacks of baggage in steerage, she found them taking on new shapes: pyramids of clowns, bears, horses and feathered performers, all balanced atop one another. She was back at the circus, albeit a much hazier and dimmer rendition than she remembered. She skipped along the center ring, excited to be home at last. Grit and discarded trash snagged between her little toes. A spotlight clicked on to illuminate a trunk. From within came a thumping sound, and girlish giggles.

“Tildey!” Willow cried out, racing across the distance to find her doll, her pigtails slapping her face and neck upon each bounding step. The creak of abandoned trapezes swung overhead, cutting intermittently through a thick cloud of fog. Yet it wasn’t fog. It was tobacco—a stench that seeped into her leotard, her tights, her very pores, until she could taste it coating her tongue like bile.

The spotlight shifted from the trunk to a trapeze just above her where a shape took form in the light: a graceful silhouette in a shimmery leotard and glistening tutu.

“Mama?” Willow whispered in the dream, forgetting Tildey for the chance to see her mother perform once more.

The trapeze vanished into thin air but the aerialist continued a controlled descent toward her, held in place by harnesses attached to the center pole. A face came into view, painted white like a clown, with bloody eyes and a hollow of a mouth—stretched wide on a perpetual scream. Willow yelped and squeezed her lashes shut, willing away the creature … for it was not Mama.

When she opened them again, the freakish performer exploded into a flock of hummingbirds made of ink. They skittered around Willow, buzzing wings scraping her skin and hair, imprinting tattoos everywhere they touched. She screamed and stumbled backwards, bumping into the trunk which was somehow right behind her. A tinkly, off-key lullaby drifted from inside the giant box. The lid shook and shuddered, as if something wanted out.

Whimpering, Willow tried to back away, but her feet grew heavy. She looked down and ballet shoes, covered in steel spikes, swallowed them up. The empty harness that had held the ghastly aerialist slithered toward her like a snake, coiling itself around her legs and arms to hold her in place.

On the final haunting strains of music, the trunk’s lid popped open, and out from the midst rose a hunched old man, holding Nadia’s haunted shoes upside down. Blood and water gushed out of them—a stench of copper and stagnancy—and the man laughed with a voice that gnawed into her bones like a thousand snarling wolves.

Top Ten Tuesday (88)- Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books I've Read In The Past Year Or So

Hi thanks for stopping by!!! And welcome to my Top 10 Tuesday post!

Thanks to the lovely ladies at The Broke And The Bookish for creating this weekly meme!

Here's this week's topic.

January 17:  Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books I've Read In The Past Year Or So

Lately I've been reading some more Indie Authors and I've found some amazing books so they will definitely be on this list. I've also been reading more adult fantasy so I will add those too.

I'll link to their goodreads pages so you can see their books. And if you want to buy them click on the book covers to be taken to Amazon!

1.  THE AIR AWAKENS Series by Elise Kova. You all know I love a good fantasy series and I binge read this series in 5 days! It was freaking awesome! And the best part is the eBook box set  (that's all 5 books!) is only $9.99 on Amazon and free for Kindle Unlimited Users!

2. IF THE SHOE FITS by Shirley McCoy. Yes I know that cover is horrible but don't let that fool you! This is an awesome adult re-imagining of the Cinderella story except of focuses more on the step-sisters and their love lives which gets pretty steamy! Loved this one!

3. THE BIRD AND THE SWORD by Amy Harmon. Another indie fantasy that was fantastic! It's a stand alone but I fell in love with this world and characters that I'd really like to read more!

4. THE AFFILIATE by K.A. Linde. I wouldn't have picked this one up but my friend Damaris from Good Choice Reading kept saying how awesome it was. So when it went on a .99 kindle sale I grabbed it, devoured it, then was dying to get book 2! It's like The Selection Books but with magic and better IMO.

5. THE WINTER KING by C.L. Wilson. Another amazing adult high fantasy! I can't wait for the rest of the series!

6.  A DANCE OF DRAGONS Series by Kaitlyn Davis. Another indie high fantasy series! I'm reading this one right now and loving it! And the best part is you can get the starter bundle for free! But the complete eBook set (3 books plus the 4 novellas) is only $9.99 so I got that. I love her writing so much after I finish this I plan to read her other series

7. THE NINE KINGDOMS Series by Lynn Kurland. I recently read the first 3 books and they were awesome! I'm not sure why they were marketed for the adult audience as they clearly have the crossover appeal like Maria V. Snyder's series.

8. UNKNOWN by Wendy Higgins. This is Wendy's first foray into New Adult and I'm so glad she didn't go the contemporary route. Instead we get a sci-fi story with a kick ass chick and romantic tension so thick you could cut it with a knife! I loved every page!

9. A PROMISE OF FIRE by Amanda Bouchet. I freaking loved this adult fantasy! It's a great story and very sexy!

10. THE ARCHITECT OF SONG by A.G. Howard. I know A.G. is a pretty big author but this is her first self published work and I personally think it's a favorite out of all her books! It's a historical Gothic New Adult and in typical A.G. Howard style the writing is beautiful and magical and romantic!

So what about you? What are some underrayed/hidden gems that you have read? And check back next week for my Ten.... there's no topic yet so I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Hugs,
Jaime

Onto the encore...

For any readers familiar with my books and my website, you'll know that I like to make and listen to playlists for every book I write, and I always share those songs with readers. Here’s my Splintered Series playlists, as an example.

Today, I'm spotlighting 5 songs that played a special role in the writing of RoseBlood.

Nature Boy by Aurora

This song is a perfect reflection of Thorn through Rune's eyes: the enigmatic, broken, masked boy who appears and vanishes as if by magic, who seems to know all of Rune's secrets and how to heal her soul sickness with his violin,  who's trying to find his own truths, while trapped between loneliness and loyalty, and humanity and love.

In My Dream by Fyfe Monroe

Just as Christine sings in the Broadway musical: "And do I dream again, for now I find, The Phantom of the Opera is there inside my mind," Rune's own dreams become more substantial than reality at times. This song embodies the eeriness and mystery behind those interludes.

Midnight, Coldplay

This ballad provided the perfect mystical, otherworldly mood for the romantic moments in the book, most especially during the rooftop scene, my personal favorite. I get all swoony just thinking about it...

Bittersweet by Apocalyptica

Thorn and the Phantom have a strained relationship throughout the story, a rift caused by Rune's presence at the academy. But this isn't a romantic love triangle. If anything, it's a triangle formed by a boy torn between his love for his father, and his blossoming feelings for a girl he has an otherworldly connection to. I could almost envision the father and son performing this duet as Thorn plays his violin (in place of a cello) -- the Phantom lost to bitterness from past experiences, and Thorn craving the freedom to have those very experiences for himself.

Sacrifice by Lisa Gerrard and Pieter Bourke

Where would a Phantom of the Opera retelling be without some operatic inspiration? This particular heartbreaking melody inspired me while writing chapter 12, one of the most visceral, emotional, gritty, and riveting scenes of the book ... IMO, anyway. Stepping back in time into Thorn's childhood, and a pivotal moment between him and the Phantom that sealed their fates and destinies forever.

There you have the highlights, along with some glimpses into the book. And now, you can find all 53 songs on the official RoseBlood playlisat this link.

Today's INTL giveaway pack consists of these two items: Metallic "Dream" Bookmark, and a Musical Score Phantom of the Opera tote.
