Elias and Laia are running for their lives.

After the events of the Fourth Trial, Martial soldiers hunt the two fugitives as they flee the city of Serra and undertake a perilous journey through the heart of the Empire.

Laia is determined to break into Kauf - the Empire's most secure and dangerous prison - to save her brother, who is the key to the Scholars' survival. And Elias is determined to help Laia succeed, even if it means giving up his last chance at freedom.

But dark forces, human and otherworldly, work against Laia and Elias. The pair must fight every step of the way to outsmart their enemies: the bloodthirsty Emperor Marcus, the merciless Commandant, the sadistic Warden of Kauf, and, most heartbreaking of all, Helene - Elias's former friend and the Empire's newest Blood Shrike.

Bound to Marcus's will, Helene faces a torturous mission of her own - one that might destroy her: find the traitor Elias Veturius and the Scholar slave who helped him escape... and kill them both.

Now on to my favorite quotes!

“So you've made a few bad decisions. So have I. So has Elias. So has everyone attempting to do something difficult. That doesn't mean that you give up, you fool. Do you understand?”

“Failure doesn't define you. It's what you do after you fail that determines whether you are a leader or a waste of perfectly good air.”

“Don't lock yourself away from those who care about you because you think you'll hurt them or they'll hurt you. What point is there in being human if you don't let yourself feel anything?”

“Your emotions make you human. Even the unpleasant ones have a purpose. Don't lock them away. If you ignore them, they just get louder and angrier.”

“It takes only a split second for life to go horribly wrong. To fix the mess, I need a thousand things to go right. The distance from one bit of luck to the next feels as great as the distance across oceans. But, I decide in this moment, I will bridge that distance, again and again, until I win. I will not fail.”

“Veturius is a Mask like the rest of us, yes. Bold, brave, strong, swift. But those were afterthoughts for him. Elias sees people as they should be, not as they are. He laughs at himself. He gives of himself - in everything he does. He's the things that I can't be. He's good.”

“You fool, Helene. When you love, there is always more pain.”

Top Ten Tuesday (75)- My Top SIX Things Books Have Made Me Want To Do or Learn About After Reading Them

Hi thanks for stopping by!!! And welcome to my Top 10 Tuesday post!

Thanks to the lovely ladies at The Broke And The Bookish for creating this weekly meme!

Here's this week's topic.

July 26: Top SIX Things Books Have Made Me Want To Do or Learn About After Reading Them

This one is a tough one! I'll try to make 10 but doubtful.

1. Glass Blowing. I have been wanting to try this ever since I read The Study and Glass books by Maria V. Snyder!

via GIPHY

2. Herbology and their uses for healing, etc. There are a ton of books I've read that have this in them but the most recent is CLANLESS book 2 in Jennifer Jenkins Nameless series!

via GIPHY

3. Swordfighting. Ok with all the fantasy books I read there would be too many to name but here's a few An Ember in The Ashes Series by Sabaa Tahir, The Snow Like Ashes Series by Sara Raasch, The Court of Fives Series by Kate Elliott, & Blood of Gods and Royals Series by Eleanor Herman.

via GIPHY

4. Driving a race car like Colten Tayler in Lucy D. Briand's MAGNETIC SHIFT. I love racing have always been a huge fan of NASCAR so I think this would be awesome!

via GIPHY

5. Panning for gold like the characters in Rae Carson's The Gold Seer Trilogy. I already learned how to do this as a kid so I guess I should say I would like to re-learn this one. Plus I live in California and I know there's still some gold left in the hills :)

6. Cooking. Ok yeah I'm already a good cook but I can always improve and expand my recipe base. Some recent books that have made me hungry and want to expand my cooking knowledge are Martina Boone's The Heirs of Watson Island Series,  Cindy Pon's Serpentine Series, and Evelyn Skye's THE CROWN'S GAME. I even made Pinterest boards for Martina's and Evelyn's books!

Ha! Ok I got 6 more than I thought!!!!

So what about you? What are some of your favorite books set outside of the US? And check back next week for my Ten Books I'd Buy Right This Second If Someone Handed Me A Fully Loaded Gift Card!

Top 10 of 2015 Day 1- Best Books I've read in 2015!

Yay welcome to day 1 of our Top 10 of 2015 event! We're so happy that you all are participating with us! 2015 was an awesome year for me. I've read 71 books as of today and will most likely hit my goal of 75 by the 31st! I love the Goodreads Reading Challenge I sign up every year and the people at Goodreads have a cool Your Year of Books when you sign up for the challenge. If you want to see all the books I read this year go HERE!

So today’s topic is Best Books I've Read in 2015 (Doesn't have to be released in 2015, just a book you've read in 2015). And I had a hell of a time narrowing it down to just 10 so there are a few honorable mentions added to this list. If you want to know anything about the books I chose just click on the title and it’ll take you to the Goodreads page!

And make sure to stop by my co-hosts sites Fiktshun, Tales of a Ravenous Reader, and Magical Urban Fantasy Reads for their lists! Oh and make sure to sign up with the linky to share your lists! And don’t forget to enter the giveaways along the way today's is over at Fiktshun! Details are at the end of this post!

1. THE WRATH & THE DAWN by Renee Ahdieh. This was hands down one of my favorites of the year! It was beautifully written and the romance was so *sighs*

2. UPROOTED by Naomi Novik. An absolutely amazing high fantasy I can't say enough about this one except that I wish it wasn't a standalone!

3. AN EMBER IN THE ASHES by Sabaa Tahir. This was one crazy good book high fantasy! I loved Sabaa's writing!

4. TEN THOUSAND SKIES ABOVE YOU by Claudia Gray. Of course this made my list! I love Claudia's Firebird series and this was just as amazing as the first book!

5. SHADOW STUDY by Maria V. Snyder. Like this one wouldn't make my list lol I love every book Maria has ever written and I was so happy that the Study series didn't end with Fire Study!

6. THE STORYSPINNER by Becky Wallace. Another amazing high fantasy (sensing a theme here?) and I've already read this sequel too! Fans of high fantasy must add this to their TBR's!

7. THE RUBY CIRCLE by Richelle Mead. Gah I was so sad to see this series end! But Richelle ended it fantastically! All my Sydrian feels were met!

8.THE WITCH HUNTER by Virginia Boecker. I loved this mix of historical and high fantasy! Virgina has created an amazing world and there's a hot healer that I adore.

9. HEART OF BETRAYAL by Mary E. Pearson. I freaking loved this one! I loved it more than the first book! And I need the sequel now!!!
