Art Journal page with Faber-Castell PITT Pastels & Helmar - and a GIVEAWAY

This month the Helmar team did a cross promotion with Faber-Castell, so I got to play with some fun products and made a page for my art journal.

Using a stencil, I traced my design with a Faber-Castell PITT pen (black, superfine).  Then I coloured it with the PITT Pastel pencils, and blended with a blending stump.  Then I sprayed with Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative, to set the pastels.

I then used the large brush PITT markers and did some stamping.  These markers are awesome for stamps - just rub it over the stamp, and away you go.

Next, I adhered strips of book text, with the Helmar Decoupage:

And added some words using the PITT Brush tip and superfine tip markers:

Now, the fun part for you!  There was a bit of shipping confusion with my parcel from Faber-Castell, and I ended up getting 2 kits instead of just 1, so I'm giving away the second kit:

To win, just leave a comment on this post before next Friday morning (Aug 3). Open to everyone.  Don't forget to come back next week to see if you've won!

Vitamin 'C' - Creating With Sketches book giveaway!

My scrappy pal Kristine Davidson over at Creative Scrappers has just released a book of sketches called "Creating with Sketches".  The e-book version is available NOW, and the print version is available for pre-order, shipping in March.  This publication has 100 plus 1 sketches, 50 talented, international designers, and NO ADS! 50 fabulous pages of inspiration for you.

I was lucky enough to get to participate in this project, and the layout you see here is my contribution.  Kristine has graciously given me an extra copy of the e-book to GIVE AWAY here on my blog - would you like to win it?   Just leave me a comment on this post - tell me if you like to use sketches a lot or just once in a while?

I used some of the new Ruby Rock-it Vintedge collection on this layout.  I'm so happy about the reds in this collection - they are 'cool' reds that really go with a lot of my son's clothing (often I find reds are too orange).  I want to dig up all of those 'too hard to find papers to match' pictures of him in his red shirts, ha ha!

Love, love, love the laser-cut wood from Scrap Désirs.  I painted on a little glimmer glaze to give these a more metallic look.  I went really light with the glaze so the warm shade of the wood would still show through, and it gave a really interesting weathered-metal effect (not sure if that shows in the photo).

And the story behind the title.  :)   These label stickers are also part of the Ruby Rock-it 'Vintedge' collection - awesome for short journaling.

Don't forget to leave a comment here, if you would like to win an e-copy of the book - I will draw a name February 12th.

Supplies:
PP, diecut borders, label stickers, chipboard letters - Ruby Rock-it
CS - Basic Grey
wood cogs - Scrap Désirs
glimmer glaze - Tattered Angels
white paint - Decoart
marker - Faber-Castell PITT pen
