"Dreaming of Spring" - mixed media on canvas

Hello friends - long time no see! This month I returned for a visit on the Susan K Weckesser blog.   I was delighted to find that this month's theme was mixed media, as I love playing with different products and seeing how they work together.

My project started out as just a piece of raw canvas, to which I added stamps from the "At Ground Level" set.   Then I stitched over many of the lines with my sewing machine:

I added clouds from the "Create Your Day" stamp set, and some colour using Inktense pencils & water.  I also stamped some background texture using a stamp from the "Abc-123-Washi" set, and the "In Circle Me" stamp.

I decided the colours didn't 'pop' as much as I would like, so I added india inks, and a little more Inktense (but using the blocks this time):

The final steps were adding a few touches of colour with Smooch inks:

and a bit more sewing (and fraying the edges):

Here's a close-up of some of the stitching:

And the final project, again.   I was originally planning to put this on a card, but my daughter has laid claim to it, and it will be mounted in a shadowbox for her bedroom, instead.  :)

Thanks for visiting!

Floral headband - Green Tara & Helmar

Today I wanted to share a tutorial for a floral headband, featuring flowers and trims from Green Tara.   I started with a simple plastic headband:

First, I adhered 15mm Double Sided Satin Ribbon to the outside.  The edges will stick out a bit, but that's OK...

Because the next step is to wrap the entire headband with 9mm Satin Edged Organza.  It will hold the previous ribbon's edges exactly where you want them, while creating a pretty stripe.  I tucked under the ends and glued.

Next, you can start decorating with pretty flowers and embellishments. Glue everything with your favorite liquid adhesive (I used 450 Quick Dry). I started with this 8cm Velvet Rose:

Then added a 5cm silk Sakura:

Next, a few smaller flowers, such as these 3cm Organza Pearl Flowers:

Then finish it off with some leaves or greenery.  I chose to cut apart one of the 21cm Silver/Acrylic/Spray - Flowers and Leaves. You can one of the leaves here:

And in this shot you can see more of the beaded part from the spray:

I hope you'll take a peek through your stash and give this a try.  Send me a link if you do - I would love to see it!

Despite the look on her face, she was pretty excited about the head band (she just wasn't excited about the camera...)  ;)

PS - if you haven't joined us on Facebook, please pop on over and 'like' Green Tara!

Easter Egg Plant :) - Glue Dots®

This month for Glue Dots® I made these Easter Topiaries. My son calls these “Egg Plants”, which is probably a cuter name. If you would like to make one (and they are easy to do), here's what you will need:

Supplies:
  • Glue Dots® – Craft
  • Glue Dots® – Mini
  • Glue Dots® – Micro
  • Glue Dots® – Pop-Up

Other Supplies (for both topiaries) :
  • Styrofoam Egg
  • Mini-plant pot
  • acrylic paint and Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels)
  • Floral foam
  • Wooden dowel
  • Patterned paper (Prima, Bo Bunny)
  • Buttons
  • Moss
  • Paper flowers (Prima)
  • Dew drops (Stamping Bella)
  • Lace (Prima)

Paint plant pot as desired

Add Glimmer Mist:

If desired, paint eggs white before starting. Pierce hole in bottom of egg with wooden dowel, to be reinserted later. Adhere buttons (or flowers) to egg using Mini Glue Dots® ;

do not cover hole for dowel

Flowers are beautiful for this, and add a softer look:

Using Craft Dot® s or Memory Dots® , adhere strips of patterned paper to wooden down, in a spiral pattern.

Insert one end of dowel in bottom of egg

Cut piece of floral foam to fit plant pot snuggly. Insert in plant pot.

Insert wooden dowel in floral foam.

Using Craft Dots® , adhere lace or ribbon to edge of pot, if desired

For a more realistic look, add moss to the top of the floral foam. I partially melted Pop-Up Glue Dots® with a heat tool, and used these to adhere the moss, since the moss adheres better with a more liquid-y method.

Alternatively, you can adhere several paper flowers (with Craft Dots® ) for a more floral cover-up for the foam. I added Dew Drops to the flower centers using Mini-Glue Dots® .

Hand-cut or punch leaf shapes from the patterned paper, distress if desired, and adhere to the dowel using Craft Dots®

Punch out leaf, or other greenery shapes from the patterned paper to adhere to base of egg ‘flower’.

The finer shapes pictured here were adhered with Micro Glue Dots® , as they fit the stems perfectly without showing.

Now your topiary is complete – Happy Easter!

Link me up if you make one - I would love to see it!

Rosette Tree Tutorial - with Glue Dots®

Today I would like to share a tutorial for this Rosette Christmas tree that I created for Glue Dots®. (Complete supplies list at bottom of post.)

Paint styrofoam tree with “Dirty Martini” glimmer glam and “Tattered Leather” glimmer mist, allow to dry.

(You can skip this step if starting with a green styrofoam tree, mine was white.)

Punch 2” circles from patterned paper. (I used approx 100 circles for this size tree)

Cut circle in a spiral pattern

Starting from the outer edge, roll up the spiral until you get to the center of the circle,

and you have a rosette

Secure spiral with a Craft Dot®

(If you make a bunch of the rosettes first, adding them to the tree will go faster.) Add a Craft Dot® to the bottom of a rosette and adhere to the styrofoam tree.

Start at the bottom of the tree, and work your way up to the top...

ending with a rosette on the very top of the tree form. If any rosettes seem a little loose, tuck in a Mini Glue Dot® to secure.

Mist entire tree with “Pearl” glimmer mist, or “Chalkboard” glimmer mist. It’s a subtle effect, but adds a nice shimmer. Allow to dry.

Fill in any odd gaps in the tree with buttons – adhere with Craft Dots®. Coat grungeboard star with “Chalkboard” glimmer mist, dry.

Wrap a Pop-Up Glue Dot® around bottom point of star, heat with heat gun until it starts to melt and flow, then poke it into the top of the tree.

Using Craft Dots®, adhere buttons to either side of star.

If you make one of these trees, I would love to see it - please leave me a link - or come share it with Glue Dots® on the Facebook fan page!
