Vogue 8522 - Cropped Jacket with Kimono-type Sleeves is Done

I could not wait to finish this jacket. I quickly sewed the large snap and non-functional decorative button. The jacket is done. As you can see, I'm showing off my button.

I've managed to keep my goal for the year...sew at least two garments a month. August turned out to be a very productive month for me (and that included losing my sewing mojo for a week or two). I ended up sewing three jackets.

Tomorrow is another sewing adventure. I hope my fellow sewists (US) are enjoying their long weekend.

Hi Cindy...You could probably use a sweater knit with this pattern. Lightweight jersey is one of the suggested fabrics from the envelope. Does the sweater knit you're thinking about using have a lot of stretch? If not, you could safely go with your normal Vogue pattern size. If there's a lot of stretch, you might want to go down a size. What would you use to line your sweater knit? Something else to think about. HTH...Susan

Awesome--it's such a cute and stylish jacket! I wanted to pick up this pattern this weekend but back-to-school shopping prevented me from ever getting to JoAnn's.

I have some interesting "reversible" fabric and thought I'd try this jacket without the lining (except maybe the sleeves). What do you think about that idea? The fabric is a simple black/white "brocade" (but not quite that heavy) that looks good on either side. Thanks for the tips on sizes, too. I'm going to have to measure before I decide what size to make.

Hi Blythe...Your black and white brocade sounds wonderful! Black and white is my fav colors.

Your reversible fabric will work great. You might get by without lining the sleeves as well. You could do a fold over binding to finish the sleeve hems. That way people can get a peek of the inside of your sleeves to see the reversible fabric.

Personally, I think the sleeves should drape...adding a lining might make it stiffer. Just a thought. :)

BTW...I couldn't reply with an email...so I hope you see my response here. ;)
