Exorcists of the world unite: 250 clerics from different Christian denominations gather in Rome for classes in driving out the devil

From The Daily Mail-

Hundreds of clerics from different Christian denominations have gathered in Rome to exchange tips and to attend classes on exorcism for the first time.

As many as 250 members of the clergy are expected in the Italian capital this week for the conference that comes at the end of a week's training.

Those who believe in exorcisms say a priest tries to draw out an evil spirit that has taken over a person's body - which can take hours or even years to work.

The event, which started yesterday at Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum - a Vatican-linked university, has classes such as 'Angels and Demons in the Sacred Scripture, The Historical Origins of the Rite of Exorcism' and 'The Symbology of Occult and Satanic Rituals'.

Anglican priest exorcises 'Christian ghost' from Muslim family home –'They were terrified'

From (The You Can't Make This Stuff Up Department) Express-

A MUSLIM family who claims to be being haunted by the ghost of a Christian monk have hired an Anglican priest to rid their house of the supernatural spirit.

The Muslim family hired Reverend Jason Bray, who is a parish priest in Wales and diocesan deliverance minister, to cast out the demons from the house. They were referred to him via social services and his bishop’s office. He said: “Because they had seen what they thought might be a monk, they felt this was a Christian ghost and therefore they needed a Christian deliverance minister — exorcist, whatever you want to call us — to sort the problem out.
 They were terrified.”

Mr Bray, who described the incident with the monk as “low-level poltergeist activity”, said he arrived wearing a stole.

This is a long band of coloured cloth worn over the shoulders.

Exorcism: Vatican course opens doors to 250 priests

From The BBC-

As many as 250 priests from 50 countries have arrived in Rome to learn how to identify demonic possession, to hear personal accounts from other priests and to find out more about the rituals behind expelling demons.

Exorcism remains controversial, in part due to its depiction in popular culture and horror films. But there have also been some cases of abuse linked to exorcisms in a range of religious sects.

The week-long Vatican course is described as the only international series of lectures of its kind. Entitled Exorcism and the Prayer of Liberation, it first opened its doors in 2005 and the number of priests attending has more than doubled since then. The event costs €300 (£260, $370) and covers the theological, psychological and anthropological background to exorcisms.

How do you get an exorcism if there's a ghost in your house?

From Liverpool- (with video)

Granada Studios, the former home of Coronation Street, recently hired an exorcist to put a stop to persistent paranormal activity .

Apparently, performers there have been disturbed by spirits for more than a decade. The TV show Most Haunted visited the set in 2005 but failed to halt the spectral nuisance.

Actors are more given to superstition than most, but many of us believe we’ve been haunted.

So what happens if you start having ghostly happenings in your own home?

Exorcists aren’t something it’s easy to just hire off the web, and most people in need will use their local church as the first port of call.

We spoke to representatives of Liverpool’s Anglican and Catholic churches to ask for their advice.

Exorcism in Italy a job 'too scary' for young priests

From The BBC-

"That is a possessed woman there," says Fr Vincenzo Taraborelli as he points up to an 18th Century fresco in his Roman church. "They're holding her with her mouth open. She has little devils coming out of her body. She's being freed."

It is a scene the 79-year-old priest says he knows well. For the past 27 years, Fr Taraborelli has performed exorcisms - the Catholic rite of expelling evil spirits.

He stumbled into the job when a fellow priest needed help.

"I didn't know what it was, I hadn't studied it," the father says. "He told me what to do. I was totally ignorant."

He has since become one of Rome's busiest exorcists, and the Catholic Church is struggling to find younger successors.

Pope Francis' Informal Exorcism, Latin American Style

From Huffington-

While Pope Francis did not perform a formal exorcism on the young man in wheel chair, he clearly realized an informal one known as a prayer of deliverance from evil. Without access to the transcript of his prayer, we are of course limited to the video footage of the event. However, we do know that the Mexican priest who brought the young man to Rome presented him to the pope as demon-possessed. Having observed hundreds of such exorcisms during the course of my research in Latin America, I view his firm and determined laying of both hands on the head of the afflicted young man as strong evidence of the pope having performed an informal exorcism in the form of a deliverance prayer. Note how, in contrast, he places only one hand on the head of the young woman he blesses, without a prayer of deliverance, right after exorcising the young man.

Since the late 1980s, competition with Pentecostalism has led to the formation of a cadre of Latin American priests affiliated with the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) who specialize in "liberation" or exorcism ministries. Such is current parishioner demand for release from demonic possession that some priests, such as Brazilian Charismatic superstar Father Marcelo Rossi, even celebrate "liberation masses" (missas de libertação) on a weekly basis. Acknowledging his pastoral debt to Brazilian Pentecostal leader, Bishop Edir Macedo, whose Universal Church of the Kingdom of God brought exorcism to the fore of Spirit-centered Christianity in Latin America, Padre Marcelo stated in an interview that "it was Bishop Edir Macedo who woke us up. He got us up."

Did Pope Francis Perform An Exorcism?

From Huffington- (with video)

After Sunday’s Pentecost Mass, Pope Francis approached the children with disabilities who attended the Mass. He put both his hands on top of the head of one of the children. According to a journalist of TV2000, a channel owned by the Italian Episcopal Conference, this gesture represents an act of exorcism. The network, who has a weekly programme called “Vade Retro,” questioned a few exorcists who confirmed his interpretation.

The images in the video show Pope Francis having a brief conversation with the priest who is standing behind the child, after which his expression changes and his hands cover the child’s head.

“The exorcists who have seen the images have no doubt: this was a liberation prayer from evil, or a real act of exorcism,” adds TV2000. Their next episode of “Vade Retro” will focus on Pope Francis’ battle against the Devil and its temptations.
