No more boring lampshades!!

No more boring lampshades. How many times did you buy a lamp, but weren't in love with the shade?  Next time, before you think of purchasing another shade, think about decorating the old shade. There are so many ways to decorate a shade.

Add flowers!

Use self adhesive cut outs!

Embellish it!

Decorate with ribbons!

Add fabric!

Add an old sweater!

Use an old map!

Cover it with tulle and roses!!

Add jute!

Stencil it!!

Have you child create art!!

As a decorator, I will often suggest decorating the shade to give it a unique and personal look. Check out Pinterest, they have a lot of ideas you can implement. Whatever you choose to do, have fun and be creative!!

Global Chic, all the rage!!

Global chic is all the rage these days. What is global chic?  Global chic (sometimes called eclectic) is "to combine elements or particular styles from different time periods and different origins within a single project."  according to Mykola Steponyuk, which pretty much, sums it up. It's mixing different design styles to achieve a unique look.

Now please understand, that doesn't mean you just throw pieces of furniture and accessories together and expect it to work? It won't!! You still have to have some elements to tie it all together, like color, fabric or finishes! The over all look, if done correctly is beautiful and unique!!

Here are just some of the fabrics, textures, and materials, and their corresponding names. I can't list them all. The world of Textiles and their terminology is huge!! There are just too many out there, but this may help.

Jacquard

Some names you may recognized, others you may not. The world of textile and fabric is a huge one. Decoding the names may be at bit overwhelming!! Arming yourself with knowledge is key to deciphering that code. But let's face it, that is a daunting task!! This is a good start!!
