Professor Robert Kelly's Oops moment

This video has gone viral. Nothing exciting about it for most of us but for those who work from home, you probably could relate to it.

Professor Robert Kelly, during a BBC interview being broadcast live was interrupted by his two kids rushing into his room. His wife, yes, she's the Mrs, South Korean Jung-a Kim, hastily grabs the kids, dragging them out of the room and closing the door.

Professor Robert Kelly teaches political science at Pusan National University in Busan, Korea, where he now lives with his wife, Jung-a Kim, a yoga teacher, and their two children, Marion, 4, and 9-month-old James. – China Daily/Asia News Network

Want a second watch? CNN's take on it.

However, the episode was simply "hilarious" in the eyes of Prof Kelly's mother, Ellen Kelly, as she thought the young children probably thought their dad was Skyping their grandparents from their home in South Korea.

"Life happens. The lesson is to lock the door," added the grandma.

Yes, lock the door. But that's one cool Prof there.

Gangnam Style hits 2 Billion views

Remember Gangnam Style? In 3Q of 2012, yes, that's how long ago this video has been, Gangnam Style had then chalked up 96 million views and everyone was like, Woh!

The video even won Best Video of the Year at MTV's EMA that year in November.

Today, that figure has ballooned to a cool 2,000,000,000, that's two billion! And I just contributed one more hit which makes it 2,001,466,086 views.

Here's the video again if only to see what the hype was all about then..

ALL COMMENTS (5,188,468) on YouTube.. just saying.

Alright, here are the lyrics, in English, if you're interested.

Oppa is Gangnam style
Gangnam style

A girl who is warm and humanle during the day
A classy girl who know how to enjoy the freedom of a cup of coffee
A girl whose heart gets hotter when night comes
A girl with that kind of twist

Im a guy
A guy who is as warm as you during the day
A guy who one-shots his coffee before it even cools down
A guy whose heart bursts when night comes
That kind of guy

Beautiful, loveable
Yes you, hey, yes you, hey
Beautiful, loveable
Yes you, hey, yes you, hey
Now lets go until the end

Oppa is Gangnam style, Gangnam style
Oppa is Gangnam style, Gangnam style
Oppa is Gangnam style

Eh- Sexy Lady, Oppa is Gangnam style
Eh- Sexy Lady oh oh oh oh

A girl who looks quiet but plays when she plays
A girl who puts her hair down when the right time comes
A girl who covers herself but is more sexy than a girl who bares it all
A sensible girl like that

Im a guy
A guy who seems calm but plays when he plays
A guy who goes completely crazy when the right time comes
A guy who has bulging ideas rather than muscles
That kind of guy

Beautiful, loveable
Yes you, hey, yes you, hey
Beautiful, loveable
Yes you, hey, yes you, hey
Now lets go until the end

Oppa is Gangnam style, Gangnam style
Oppa is Gangnam style, Gangnam style
Oppa is Gangnam style

Eh- Sexy Lady, Oppa is Gangnam style
Eh- Sexy Lady oh oh oh oh

On top of the running man is the flying man, baby baby
Im a man who knows a thing or two
On top of the running man is the flying man, baby baby
Im a man who knows a thing or two

You know what Im saying
Oppa is Gangnam style

Eh- Sexy Lady, Oppa is Gangnam style
Eh- Sexy Lady oh oh oh oh

Sinking ferry en route to Jeju Island, South Korea

Update: This mishap left 29 people dead and 274 others missing. The captain of the ferry that capsized was arrested.

It is incidents like this that gives me the jitters about taking a trip on a sea vessel and to think that going on a Three Gorges cruise in China is on my so-called bucket list.  Aarghh!

Just glad that there is no fatality when this passenger jetty got into trouble en route to touristy Jeju Island in Korea. Unfortunately, the latest news reported that officials said two people had died.

From The Star:

SEOUL (Reuters) - All 338 high school students and teachers on board a South Korean passenger ferry that was reported to be sinking on Wednesday have been rescued, a school official told Reuters.

The ferry, identified as the Sewol, was carrying about 470 passengers, including the students and teachers, en route to Jeju island, about 100 km (60 miles) south of the Korean peninsula.

It sent a distress signal after it began to list badly.

Psy's new video - Gentleman

After Gangnam Style, what next? Psy has finally unveiled his new video for his new single, Gentleman.

The Star reported that..

South Korean pop star Psy unveiled Saturday the hip-swinging dance and music video for his new song, aimed at replicating the global success of "Gangnam Style" and its famed horse-riding dance.

The singer showed off the much-anticipated dance moves - a simple swaying, grinding hip movement - at a promotional concert in Seoul.

The long-awaited video, released a day after the new single "Gentleman" hit online stores worldwide, was posted on YouTube shortly after the concert which was streamed live on the video-sharing site.

"Gentleman" went straight into the top five of the iTunes charts in South Korea and other Asian markets like Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia, but could only manage 90th spot in the crucial US equivalent.

In Britain, it rose quickly to number 25, but elements of the British music press were scathing in their assessment.

"Like a seven-year-old on a Casio," was the judgement of the Times newspaper, while the underwhelmed Guardian critic called it "a fairly standard issue, pop-dance single".

I still prefer Gangnam Style - which, btw, is still the most-watched YouTube video of all time, registering more than 1.5 billion views since it debuted last July. Gangnam Style is a satire on the luxury lifestyle of Seoul's upscale Gangnam district, which incidentally is where Psy and his family live.

Gentleman, the song is not as catchy and the video sillier. Oh well, it's just a video.

Watch the video and tell me what you think.

Psy to perform in Penang during Chinese New Year

Say what you like, Psy is still making waves with his Gangnam Style that has taken the world by storm and whose video on YouTube has garnered more than a billion views making it an all-time high record.

If you are in Penang during Chinese New Year, you will get the chance to catch Psy performing his horse-galloping dance moves live on the second day of Chinese New Year, 11 Feb.

The performance is in conjunction with Barisan Nasional's Chinese New Year open house on Feb 11 from 10am to 1pm.

Psy or Park Jae-sang is expected to perform his viral hit in front of some 60,000 guests, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the Han Chiang High School field.

It has been reported that Psy will be paid US$1 mil (roughly RM3.1 mil) and if you are wondering, yes, Psy is more expensive than teen pop superstar Justin Bieber, who is paid US$1 mil for a full concert in KL.

DAP Gangnam Style!

Like I said earlier about Gangnam Style, every now and again your attention gets drawn to a new parody of it. It was Mongolian Gangnam Style the other day and today it's a local version put up by DAP, the Opposition party of the current regime of Malaysia.

Malaysians would be able to identify with what is being portrayed though foreigners would also find the antics hilarious. (However, if you watch it on YouTube, you'd be able to get an inkling of what's going on in Malaysia in the viewer comments.) Give it a watch for a good laugh - watch it till the end for the real laughs.

On a happy note (for some), Psy has declared that he will retire his Gangnam Style performance. Did I hear Hallelujah!? He said it at the Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2013.

"Being in Times Square on New Year's Eve is already special — it's the biggest stage in the universe — plus it's my birthday, so, with all that, it may be the ending of 'Gangnam Style,'" Psy told MTV News. "I mean, what better way to do it? It's my biggest and most meaningful birthday."

"The song became too popular, and so you start to have some concern about its life period," he said. "I'm really working hard on a new single right now, and I'm not saying ['Gangnam'] is ending on 'Dick Clark' — I still have a lot of invitations to perform it ... I'll be in Paris, and in February I got invited to perform in China, and I've still got to do promo. So let me say that in America I need a new single because 'Gangnam Style' got too popular, so I've got to write a new single."

Gangnam Style has become the most watched video on the Internet, with more than a billion views on YouTube alone.

Just for kicks, one more time? Oppa Gangnam Style!

(Disclaimer: The DAP Gangnam Style video is just part of a blog post. Putting it up because it's there. No ill intention whatsoever.)

Must watch - Mongolian Gangnam Style

After months of galloping to the beat of Psy's Gangnam Style, we thought we would be through with it by now, but no, every once in a while a new parody comes on and we get sucked into that galloping rhythm again.

Came across one done in Mongolia and uploaded by "Cari Bou". So it's Oppa Mongolian Gangnam Style! This one is really well done, one of the better videos of Psy's viral hit.

What's nice about this video is that it incorporates local Mongolian traditions and cultures. Fun to watch.

In just five months since it appeared, Psy's video has already become the first ever on YouTube to register more than a billion hits - overtaking Justin Bieber's "Baby" video as the most watched on YouTube, breaking the teen heartthrob's former record of 803 million views.

The local government in South Korea plans to open a visitor center in February that could eventually include a life-size hologram of the singer, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, performing his buffoonish dance.

The first public display to honor Psy is a plywood stage decorated with black, cutout silhouettes of a rotund man who appears to be prancing like a horse right across from Samsung’s corporate headquarters in Seoul.

Psy himself is from Gangnam, a district in South Korea that has a reputation of being one of the most affluent, dynamic, and influential areas in both Seoul and South Korea as a whole.

An interesting read here on how Psy makes his millions from his billion views on YouTube and other income sources - PSY's riches from 'Gangnam Style' not made at home

Oppa Gangnam Style!

Enough already?!

Will Psy be Time's 2012 Person Of The Year?

I was told Psy has overtaken Justin Bieber in having the most views on YouTube. Looks like this South Korean rapper who created a phenomenon with his Gangnam Style is set to add more feathers to his cap in the entertainment industry.

It has been reported that Psy has been shortlisted for Time magazine's 2012 Person of the Year. Others in the list include Jay-Z (Beyonce's husband) and Russian punk rockers Pussy Riot.

More from The Star/Daily Chilli:

Editors unveiled a list of 38 contenders for the honour and Fifty Shades of Grey author EL James, Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas and comedians Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart have all made the cut.

Also nominated are US President Barack Obama and his former White House rival, Republican Mitt Romney, as well as dissident Chinese artist/activist Ai Weiwei and Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by Taliban extremists who disagreed with her equal rights beliefs.

The winner will be chosen by Time editors and revealed on 14 December (12). The Protester was named last year's (11) Person of the Year following the widespread reach of the Occupy Wall Street campaign against big business.

2012 MTV EMA - 'Gangnam Style' Best Video of the Year

Did anyone watch the 2012 MTV European Music Awards (EMA) two nights ago? MTV Award shows are a must-watch for music fans around the world. It was held in Frankfurt, Germany, and was telecast live around the world including Malaysia.

Give it a guess, who do you think won the Best Video of the Year? You guessed it! Psy did with his 'Gangnam Style'.

Not only did he win the Best Video of the Year at MTV's EMA, the video has made it into the Guinness World Record for the most 'liked' video in YouTube history. It sure is an amazing feat for just a few short months. If you have 'liked' it on YouTube, give yourself a pat on the back for being a part of history.

'Gangnam Style' has indeed taken the world by storm and is still as popular today as it was when it first started. I'm sure it is, as Gangnam Style is still the top search keyword on my blog today and I guess it'll be around for a while. Who's complaining when it's bringing in traffic anyway..

If you are a fan of Glee, watch out for the Fox musical cover of Psy's Internet phenomenon during an episode slated to air toward the end of November.

Meanwhile, Psy must be working out to get his torso toned enough for showing off should his Gangnam Style hit top spot on Billboard 100. Right now, he is still stuck at the No. 2 spot behind Maroon 5's 'One More Night'.

Psy has promised his fan that he would dance topless should his number hit No. 1.

"If it ranks number one in the Billboard chart, then I will perform 'Gangnam Style' topless in a place where everyone can watch," The South Korean rapper said in a news conference, Reuters reports.

Psy giving free Gangnam concert in Seoul

Source: The Star

Whoa, how nice! South Korean rapper Psy will perform his global hit "Gangnam Style" at a free concert in Seoul on Thursday (today?) that is expected to draw 50,000 fans, with millions more watching live on YouTube.

During a hugely successful US promotional tour last month, Psy made a guest appearance at the MTV awards in Los Angeles, taught his signature dance to Britney Spears, and was given a cameo role on NBC's "Saturday Night Live."

His horse-riding moves have been imitated, parodied and referenced in pretty much every conceivable context.

The free concert is being co-organised by the Seoul municipal authorities, who have promised to extend subway services and block off traffic from the area around the city-centre venue.

The free concert is in appreciations of his fans' support back home.

Oppa Gangnam Style!

It all started with this video, Psy Gangnam Style, a South Korean number that has taken the country, no, the world by storm.

Is it the singer, the song, the dancing, the colorful outfits or even the Gangnam gu (neighbourhood)? It's everything that's got the world fascinated and talking about it.

It’s hard not to watch it again …and again …and again which probably is why the video has chalked up more than 96 million views to-date. Here.. what's one more time!

Psy's big hit "Gangnam Style" has also spawned various reaction videos and parodies with the more popular ones receiving millions of views and turning the horse-riding dance into a dance fad around the world.

How about a Sabah Gangnam Style..a good effort here, though it has yet to meet the 1 million mark.

More proof that Malaysians are certainly in on the action on Gangnam Style. Look, even grandpa is doing the horse-riding dance in Penang. (Note the art piece behind grandpa. That's for another post. Stay tuned..)

On August 21, 2012, Gangnam Style officially charted #1 on the iTunes Music Video Charts, overtaking Justin Bieber's As Long as You Love Me and Katy Perry's Wide Awake; this feat is the first for any South Korean artist. In South Korea the song was an instant success selling 745,000 downloads in its first week and remains atop the Gaon Single Chart for five consecutive weeks since debut. As of August 23, the song was downloaded over 2,545,837 times in South Korea alone. In Finland the track took the number one place on the official download chart. (Wikipedia)

Who is Psy? Psy is a 34-year-old South Korean rapper, whose real name is Park Jae-Sang while his stage name, Psy, is short for Psycho. Psy attended Boston University and the Berklee College of Music in America, and apart from writing his own songs, he also composes songs for other singers. He is married with two daughters.

"Gangnam Style" is a 2012 K-pop single first released on July 15, 2012. It is the most viewed K-Pop song on YouTube.

"Gangnam Style" is widely praised for its humour, catchy rhythm as well as Psy's unusual horse-riding dance moves that have introduced many people outside Korea to K-pop. Gangnam Style has been talked about and featured in many foreign broadcasting networks and newspapers. Even notable artistes such as the British singer Robbie Williams and Josh Groban have also mentioned about the music video on Twitter.

Josh Groban, British opera singer, is one of the earliest celebrities to tweet about Psy’s infectious video, who on July 31 posted a link to the video and said, “It’s a Gangnam Style world, we’re just living in it. Amazing video.”

Britney Spears tweeted "I am LOVING this video – so fun! Thinking that I should possibly learn the choreography. Anybody wanna teach me?

Katy Perry wrote on Twitter: "Help, I'm in a Gangnam-style K-hole." - to which Psy replied “I...I’m the very ‘PSY’ of the video. K k. This is a H~~~uge pleasure to be introduced by U~!!!”

On August 16, 2012, Nelly Furtado performed an English version of the song in her concert in the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

Psy is considering a song with Justin Bieber, and has met with Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun. (Wikipedia)

Everyone is doing the fun horse-riding Gangnam Style dance. Are you? If you haven't, here's how. To start, the shades, don't forget the shades.. LOL!
