1691 Snow Cutie - A Sandra Caldwell new release
Hi everyone! I'm here with my second project of the day with another new release from Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. We took a couple of weeks off so we will have double release days this Friday and next to catch up on all the new and fabulous images. For this one, I decided to beat the heat of August by playing with a winter themed image called 1691 Snow Cutie, She has the sweetest face and a positive attitude to match even with the major brain freeze from the snow on her head.
I coloured Snow Cutie with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. She was then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border and then matted with black cardstock. After fussy cutting her again leaving a narrow black border, foam tape was applied to the back to add dimension and create natural shadow.
The background began as a piece of white cardstock which I had used as a mask on another project. It caught all of this wonderful blue sprayed ink along the top and bottom of the sheet, leaving the middle considerably lighter. I cut it into a 5.5 x 8 inch rectangle to serve as the start of a wintry background for Cutie. I pulled out two different size snowflake punches and went to town creating snowflakes from blue marbled paper. These were adhered toward the top of the background. Two strips of blue and white washi tape were adhered to white cardstock so they were no longer translucent and then cut into flags to ground Cutie. The one triangle which was cut away was also adhered to the top of the page to create flow.
The sentiment was printed on white cardstock, cut apart, and matted with black. Foam tape was added to the back of each word. They were then adhered to the background. At this point, I felt that the snowflakes didn't stand out against the background enough so black pen was used to draw circles in the middle of each. The same pen was used to doodle the border and outline the washi tape before Cutie was adhered in place. To continue the circle and snowflake details, a black .5 inch circle was punched from cardstock and added to each of the washi bands. Sparkly snowflake buttons with their shanks removed were adherde to those circles. Black Big Brush Pen was used to edge the card before it was matted with black cardstock.
Thanks for joining Snow Cutie and me today. To see the rest of this awesome release and the wonderful DT projects featuring them, be sure to pop by the Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group where they will be posted along with the first set of new releases. You will find all of them along with a plethora of other inspirational images in Sandra's Etsy shop later today.

1703 Crazy Birdies ~ A Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone! With Sandra's return from holidays, we have two sets of new releases today in her Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. The DT had a couple of weeks off but will do double release days for the next two Fridays. The first image I chose to play with is called 1703 Crazy Birdies. I am a huge fan of Sandra's chicks...there is an entire collection of them in the shop so these babies called to me immediately.
I coloured them with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. Although they both come on the same image, I fussy cut them leaving a narrow white border so that I could change the arrangement to suit the size of my art journal background. They were then each matted with black cardstock, and fussy cut again leaving a narrow black border. Foam tape was applied to the back of each.
The background began as a sheet of mop up white cardstock which was used to pick up the over spray from three Lindy's Starburst colours: Yellow Rose of Texas, Marigold Yellow orange, and California Poppy Gold. I cut a 6 x 8 inch piece from this sheet and then stencilled circles on it using Tiger Lily Archival Ink and TCW Mini Beaded Curtain stencil. To give both birdies a place to dance, grass was die cut (Joy Crafts die) from green and white dotty paper which was edged with Viridian Archival Ink along the bottom. Orange dotty washi tape was applied to white cardstock and then torn and added beneath the grass. Black Bokeh Dots were added with Jet Black Archival Ink and an Ellen Hutson stamp.
The sentiment, printed on white cardstock, was cut into individual words and matted with black. Foam tape was added to the back of each. A simple border was doodled around the outside edges of the background and black Big Brush Pen was used to darken the same edges. A black cardstock mat was adhered to the back of the page to serve as a frame and add contrast.
Thanks for joining my Crazy Birdies and me today. To see the other wonderful images from this set of new releases, as well as the fabulous DT projects which feature them, be sure to pop by Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group where they will be posted throughout the day. And stay tuned for the next post today where I will be showing you my project with the image I chose from the second of today's new release sets. Inspiration galore today in Sandra's Etsy shop!

1626 Curly Top Old Man ~ A Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone. It's New Release Friday at Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop and Facebook group. Each week she introduces us to the new images in the shop and gives the DT a chance to play with them. It's always a treat to see what everyone has created from these newbies. This week, I decided to create an art journal page with the fabulous 1626 Curly Top Old Man and his amazing bowtie.
I coloured Old Man with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. His glasses were outlined with gold gel pen. He was then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border, matted with black, and fussy cut again leaving a narrow black border. Foam Tape was added to the back to pop him up and create natural shadow around him.
The background began with a 6 x 8 inch piece of mixed media paper which had been spritzed with Fuzzy Navel Peach, Canna Lily Burnt Orange, and Cajun Carnelian Red Lindy's Starburst Sprays. Once that was dry, stamping was done with ColorBox Chianti Ink and a ruler stamp plus Carabelle Studio Quadrillage Art Stamp. To add a little punch, a VLV star border stamp was also added with Jet Black Archival Ink. Polka dot washi tape in colours similar to his shirt and tie was applied to white cardstock to eliminate the translucency, and then cut into fishtail flag strips. It was adhered under Old Man in order to ground him and also on the opposite side to create flow.
The sentiment was printed on white cardstock and cut into individual words which were matted with black. Foam tape was used to pop up each word. A small white tag was inked with Squeezed Lemonade and Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks and rub-ons plus faux stitching dressed it up. Black pen was used to create a simple border around the outside edges, as well as outlining the washi tape flags. Black Soot Distress Inks was applied around the edges before a black mat was added to the back to pull the page together.
Thanks for joining Curly Top Old Man and me today. We are happy you did and hope that you'll take a minute to stop by Sandra's Facebook group where the team will display their awesome projects featuring other new releases. Pop by Sandra's Etsy shop, too, when you get a chance. You are sure to see many images that inspire you to create!

1656 Frog Eyes ~ A Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone! It's New Release Friday at Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs and she has some dandy images for us again this week. The Design Team has done their usual fabulous job creating projects with some of them but Sandra always has a few surprises for us, too. This week, I chose to play with the new image called 1656 Frog Eyes. He is a dapper little fellow although his sense of humour is a tad corny...LOL.
I coloured Frog Eyes with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils and then filled his glasses with Glossy Accents to make the lenses shine and give them some dimension. Frog Eyes was fussy cut leaving a narrow white border, matted with black, and fussy cut again leaving a narrow black border. Foam Tape was added to the back to pop him up because he likes to be noticed.
The 5.5 x 8 inch background began life as a piece of white cardstock used to clean yellow, green, and pink paint bits off my gel plate. Magenta Hue Archival Ink was applied to a grid stamp and rolled onto the background here and there. Sunflower Archival Ink was applied to a distressed circles stamp and applied in places, although a lot of that was covered up. A zigzag sewing stamp was also added with Jet Black Archival ink. Measuring tape washi adhered to strips of white cardstock so it was opaque was added in 3 spots in order to ground my froggy friend and add flow to the design.
The sentiment which was printed on white cardstock was cut into individual words. These were matted with black and popped up with foam tape. The background needed some contrast and a touch of black so 1.5 inch circles were punched from Carabelle Studio Templates packaging and adhered to the edges. It's amazing how that made the background instantly more pulled together and interesting. A tiny dragonfly button, minus its shank, was adhered in the top right corner and a simple double line border was doodled around the edges of the background. A black mat was added to the page to frame it and add a little more pop.
Thanks for joining Frog Eyes and me today. To see more of Sandra's wonderful new releases which will be in the shop later, and also see what our talented DT members did with them, be sure to drop by Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group, where they will be posted throughout the day. 1648 Mermaid Troll - A Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone. It's New Release Friday at Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs, as well as on her Facebook group. The DT create projects featuring many of these new releases and posting them to the Sandra Caldwell Stamps Fans group as well as to their individual blogs. Then Sandra throws in a few surprise images which we didn't know about...love that! Today, I am playing with a fun image called 1648 Mermaid Troll. Did you ever have any of those so-ugly-they-were cute little trolls when you were a kid? I used to love to pet their hair :)
I coloured MT with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils, adding a little Glossy Accents to the bubbles. She was fussy cut leaving the usual narrow white border and then matted with black. After leaving a narrow black border to help her pop against the background, foam tape was added to the back.
The background began as a 12 x 12 inch piece of marbelized cardstock. To me it looked like water so I cut it down to a 6 x 8 inch rectangle for the page. Aquamarine Archival Ink was applied to Joggles Sparks Background Noise stamp as well as Viva Las Vegas spiral one. Jet Black Archival was used to apply VLV's Star border stamp and black pen was used to fill in the stars. The same black was used to ink and apply the TH dotty stamp. Two lengths of scalloped wave patterned trims were layered at the bottom of the page and were then outlined to help them show up.
The wording was printed on white cardstock and cut into individual words. These were matted with black and then popped up on foam tape. Clear Dew Drops were adhered in a few places with Glossy Accents in order to create the effect of 3D bubbles like you see in the image. A simple border was doodled on 3 sides of the page before the black matting was adde to frame and finish the page.
Thanks for joining Mermaid Troll and me today. We love that you did! To see more of Sandra's Fabulous new releases as well as the wonderful DT makes, be sure to stop by the Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group throughout the day. 1637 Lobster Louie ~ A Sandra Caldwell New Release
This week, I chose to play with the new image called 1637 Lobster Louie. Isn't he cute?
I coloured Louie with a mix of Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils and then used blue PanPastel to colour the water around him. The bubbles were given a coat of Glossy Accents both for the dimension and the shine. In order to include the bubbles which are part of the image, I cut Louie out in a wavy fashion, leaving background all around him. This was matted with black cardstock and a narrow border was left to help Louie pop against the background.
Speaking of backgrounds, this one started as a clean up sheet where I rolled left over paint onto white cardstock when gel printing. I cut it down to a 6 x 8 inch rectangle. Joggles Vintage Correspondence stamp was applied in places with Manganese Blue Archival ink. Using the same ink, Stampotique Originals Dot Swirl stamp and a mesh stamp were also added. Louie likes his bubbles so more were added by scraping Texture Paste through Carabelle Studios Always Circles Template. Once dry, a blue Inktense pencil was used next to the bottom edge and the shadow was activated with a water brush. A ittle yellow and pink Inktense were also added to the bubbles with the water brush.
The sand area was torn from a corrugated coffee sleeve. Coffee and Tree Branch Archival Inks were applied directly to vary the colour of the sand. Brown acrylic paint was mixed with Texture Paste and added here and there with a palette knife. Shell pieces were adhered in both corners. The sentiment, printed on white cardstock, was cut into individual words which were matted with black. Foam tape popped up the words and Louie. A simple doodled border was added with black pen and Black Big Brush pen was used to edge the background. Finally, black cardstock cut slightly bigger than the background, was adhered to the back of the page to frame it.
Thanks for popping by today. Louie and I appreciate that!To see more of Sandra's new releases, be sure and pop by her Etsy shop, babycakesdnd. 1625 Lovely Bag ~ a Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone. It's New Release Friday at Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop and Facebook group. Each week she introduces us to the new images in the shop and gives the DT a chance to play with them. It's always a treat to see what everyone has created from these newbies. This week, I created an art journal page featuring the image called 1625 Lovely Bag and a favourite saying of my sister's and mine which we learned from our mom :)
The bag was coloured with Prismacolor pencils except for the inside which was Polychromos pencils. The dots are white paint pen. I just had to do polka dot lining since that's my fave. The bag was fussy cut without my usual white and black borders because I wanted ti to layer on top of the stand I was creating and the borders wouldn't have looked right. The display stand was the bottom of a die cut mannequin with a strip adhered along the top edge to make the shelf.
The background was a 6 x 8 inch rectangle of mixed media paper sprayed with Blush and Salmon Heidi Swapp Color Shine which I allowed to pool and drip. Brilliance Rocket Red Gold ink was used to apply both a woven background stamp and a Carabelle Studio Stars Background stamp. Jet Black Archival Ink was used to apply one of the images from Stampotique Originals Kate's Doodle Cube. To give the purse stand a place to rest (rather than a floating one), gray and white dotty washi tape applied to white card stock was adhered below it.
The sentiment was printed on white card stock and matted with black. Foam tape was used to adhere the words and the purse to the background. Black pen outlining was done next to the washi and the two heart clips. It was also used to doodle the border around the page. To finish off, black Big Brush Pen was used to edge the background before it was matted on black card stock to frame it.
Thanks for joining me today. To see more of Sandra's wonderful new releases and also to see what our talented DT members did with them, be sure to drop by Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group, where they ere posted yesterday. Pop by Sandra's Etsy shop, too, when you get a chance. There are so many fabulous images that you are sure to gain lots of inspiration and add to your wish list.

1629 Poppy - A Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone. It's New Release Friday at Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop and Facebook group. Each week she introduces us to the new images in the shop and gives the DT a chance to play with them. It's always a treat to see what everyone has created from these newbies. This week, I decided to create a card with the image called 1629 Poppy. Poppies are one of my favourite flowers and I always celebrate when the ones in my garden finally pop which they did this week.
I coloured the poppy image with a mix of Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils. A little black Pitt pen was added to the bottom of the petals to mimic the black lines on the ones I grow. The image was cut into a rectangle and then the corners were rounded with a punch, Black faux stitching was added to the outside edges before the image was matted with black card stock and popped up on foam tape.
The card itself is simple in design so that the dramatic image would take center stage without distractions. A piece of dark gray designer paper with a white heart pattern was cut to fit inside the card front, leaving a border of white from the base. Black card stock was used to mat this layer. A band of black was cut to fit across the printed paper and was embossed with a dotty folder. A simple sentiment was printed on white card stock and cut into a fishtail flag. This was matted with black card stock and faux stitching was added to the squared end. Once it was adhered below the image, a black threaded button was glued over the faux stitching on the flag.
Thanks for popping by today. Above are two photos of my poppies from the garden. They put on quite a show! To see more of Sandra's new releases, be sure and pop by her Etsy shop, babycakesdnd. 1567 Victorian Pretty ~ A Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone. It's New Release Friday at Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop and Facebook group. Each week she introduces us to the newbies in the shop and gives the DT a chance to play with them. She always adds a few surprises to the shop so that the DT will be surprised, too. This week, my art journal page is featuring the new image called 1567 Victorian Pretty. I chose her because of that long flowy hair and the pretty headpiece. She was a treat to colour.
VP was coloured with Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. The white stripes in her dress were added with gel pen. She was fussy cut leaving a narrow white border and then matted with black card stock. Once she was fussy cut a second time leaving a narrow black border, foam tape was added to the back to pop her up.
The background began as a 6 x 8 inch rectangle of mixed media paper. Lindy's Witch's Potion Purple and Sweet Violet Purple Teal Starburst Sprays were spritzed over it and allowed to dry. One of the Ellen Hutson Bokeh Dots as well as Carabelle Studio Quadrillages stamps were applied to the background using Hydrangea Archival Ink. Ranger Texture Paste was scraped through TCW Tiny Circles stencil to add a little more texture. Before VP was adhered to the background, a small doily was glued behind her both to pretty up the page to suit her and also to help her stand out against the background.
The sentiment was printed on white card stock and cut into segments. These were then matted with black card stock and popped up on foam tape. A small pink button and a large patterned purple button were stacked and threaded together to place in the top left corner. Three photo corners were punched from purple card stock and glued to the remaining corners. A simple line border was drawn to join the four corner elements. Black Big Brush Pen was used to edge the page before a black mat was added to frame the page.
Thanks for joining 1567 Victorian Pretty and me today. To see more of Sandra's new releases, be sure and pop by her Etsy shop, babycakesdnd. Stop off at the Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group to see the awesome projects featuring these new releases created by the DT members. Lots of inspiration to be found in both places.

1590 Petal Top ~ A Sandra Caldwell New Release
I coloured Petal Top with a mix of Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils. I've been playing more with the eyes lately trying to create different effects with my coloured pencils. PT was then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border and then matted with black card stock, Once she was trimmed out again, this time leaving a narrow black border, she was popped up on foam squares to add dimension and create natural shadow.
The background began as a gelli print using Lt Blue Permanent, Cerulean Blue Hue, and Brilliant Yellow Green Liquitex Paints and Joggles Ancient Ruins Stencil and Teardrops in the Round Foam Stamp. White paint was also used on the gel paint with Carabelle Studio Des Carres Avec Des Rondes art template. Carabelle Studio Star Textures Art Stamp and a TH dotty stamp were applied using Cobalt Archival Ink. Washi tape, which had been applied to white card stock to remove the translucency, was also adhered below the image to ground her and also on the right side of the background.
The sentiment was printed onto white card stock and cut into individual words. They were then matted with black and popped up on foam tape. A resin flower and hand cut leaves were added to the top left corner and a black punched photo corner was added to the lower right corner for balance. The background edges were inked with Black Big Brush Pen before the piece was matted with black card stock to frame it. A small amount of outlining of the washi and the flower was done to help them stand out.
Thanks for joining Petal Top 1590 and me today. To see more of Sandra's new releases, be sure and pop by her Etsy shop, babycakesdnd. Stop off at the Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group to see the awesome projects featuring these new releases created by the DT members.

Magic Tea Garden 1539 - Spring Fling Challenge sponsored by Sandra Caldwell
Hi everyone. Markers!Papers! and Digis! is having a Spring Fling Contest in the Facebook group and Sandra Caldwell is one of the sponsors. It runs from April 30 - May 27 and you must use the Sandra Caldwell image Magic Tea Garden 1539. I love this image so much and was excited to colour it up for a card.
Using Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils, she was coloured and fussy cut leaving a narrow white border around the "wooden frame". Gray Copic marker was used to shade inside the frame and around the bunny girl. The image was then matted with black card stock and cut out again leaving a narrow black border. Foam squares were used to adhere the image to the card and provide dimension.
Gray and white dotty paper was cut to fit inside the white card base and this layer was matted with black. Another rectangle was cut from gray and white striped paper which was also matted with black. All edges of the designer paper were edged with Jet Black Archival Ink before matting was adhered. The sentiment, a nod to Alice in Wonderland, was printed on white card stock and matted with black. Two teacup brads were placed on either side of the sentiment to repeat the cup in the image.
You still have a few days if you want to play along with this fun challenge at the Markers!Papers! and Digis! Facebook group. The image is in Sandra's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. It was a definite Must-Have in my book :)

1575 Bikini Piggie ~ A Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone! It's Friday and that means there is a lovely group of wonderful new release images at Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. Besides the ones which the DT have played with and will show on the Sandra Caldwell Stamps Fans Facebook group, It's always fun to see the new releases and Sandra always manages to surprise the DT with a few surprises as well.
This week, I played with 1575 Bikini Piggie. Not only do I adore her big baby blues but she is rocking that bikini, too. I coloured Piggie with a mix of Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils. I fussy cut her leaving a narrow white border and then matted her with black card stock, popping the image up on foam tape.
The background began with a gel print using blue, green, and purple Liquitex acrylic paint as well as a Joggles stencil called Big Leaves and a Stencil Girl one called X Rows. The print was cut down to 5.5 x 7.5 inches and a piece of brown card stock was torn to create the sand. Both brown and a pale beige paint were pounced over the brown to create more texture and the impression of sand grains. A few clip art shell images were fussy cut, adhered to the sand, and outlined with black pen. The sun circle was punched from mop-up sprayed card stock and the yellow triangles were hand cut from the same paper. Faux stitching and outlining were added to the sun once everything was adhered.
The sentiment was printed onto white card stock and cut into individual words. They were each matted with black and then popped up on foam tape for dimension. The shank was cut off a sunglasses button and it was adhered in the corner opposite the sun. A simple border was doodled around the outside edges and they were inked with Black Big Brush pen. Finally, a black mat was added to the page to frame it.
Thanks for joining Bikini Piggie 1575 and me today. We're delighted that you did and wish you a wonderful long weekend if you get one. 1580 Beach Blanket Babe ~ a Sandra Caldwell New Release
Hi everyone! It's Friday and that means there is a lovely group of wonderful new release images at Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. Besides the ones which the DT have played with and will show on the Sandra Caldwell Stamps Fans Facebook group, Sandra always adds some surprises in the shop...so fun!
I coloured Babe with a mix of Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils. This image comes with the sand, sky, and clouds in the background so I cut it out as a rectangle instead of my usual fussy cutting. I did mat it with black card stock and popped it up on foam tape.
The background was a 5.5 x 8.5 inch rectangle which I had previously decorated with acrylic paint and gel printing. Additional patterning was added with Jet Black Archival Ink and an Ellen Hutson Bokeh stamp. Ranger Texture Paste was also added through one of the designs from TCW Mini Texturized stencil. A length of wave patterned paper tape was added to the right side and doodled around. A simple doodled border was also added to the outside of the page using a black pen.
The sentiment was printed onto white card stock and cut into individual words. These were then matted with black and popped up on foam tape. Two scalloped edges were trimmed from the paper tape and adhered beneath two of the words to tie in with the border. Doodling was repeated here as well. Four sea themed buttons were coloured with Archival Ink and then adhered minus the shanks to opposite corners of the page. Both a blue and a black mat were used to frame the finished page.
Thanks for joining Beach Blanket Babe and me today. We are delighted that you stopped by. To see more of Sandra's wonderful releases and what the talented DT have created with them, be sure to stop by the Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group throughout the day. There's also a brand new Steampunk challenge to check out while you are there. When you get a chance, pop by her Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs.
