Final Goodbyes!

About two weeks ago, our small group gathered together for a "goodbye" party for our dear friends Brett and Jody (and their two daughters), who were due to move to Tennessee. Brett has served as the Youth Pastor of our church, but he was also our small group leader and dear friend.  We had planned to go out to eat at a fancy, local restaurant, called the Metro, but we knew this evening would be slightly sappy, so we moved the "party" to the Fernandez's new home.  We ordered Firehouse Subs and I made three homemade desserts in honor of this bitter-sweet celebration.  

Jody's favorite dessert is cheesecake, so I made a strawberry cheesecake and an oreo cheesecake, along with my favorite dessert, Tiramisu.  They could NOT have turned out more beautiful. They were also so delicious.  I am drooling over them as I stare at these photographs.

We all brought gifts and letters to give to Brett and Jody!  We prayed over them. The night was really emotional. We poured out our hearts to this sweet couple, but we laughed just as much as we cried.  And then... we captured a few photos of our group's last time as a party of 6 guys and 6 gals.  We have been in this small group for well over 5 years now.  Having Brett and Jody absent, every other Friday at small group, AND at Church AND around town, will be hard to accept as a reality.

I purchased this beautiful necklace for Ansley, their daughter.  From Virginia to Tennessee she goes.  Ansley will definitely be missed. Be sure to check out Ivy By Design's ETSY shop!

I also purchased a photo album for Ansley of the mountains.  I felt like this represented Roanoke well.  I filled it will all kinds of photos taken over the years as well as the photos from the "Childhood Friends" photo shoot.

Believe it or not, I found it at Michaels Craft Store.

I fell in love with this saying, "How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard!" So, I contacted Cultural Bindings on ETSY and had a notebook made for BOTH Ansley and Jody. I LOVED the image below and asked her to use it in place of the one she features on her ETSY shop.

I had a wood panel made for Ansley. I also had a wooden panel made for the first group photo pictured in this post. These were purchased at Walgreens and I LOVE THEM!

We have LOVED having Brett and Jody do life with us.  They have truly left their mark in ROANOKE, VA.  I purchased this gorgeous Roanoke ornament from Steger Creek. The ornament was designed by the owner himself.  

I purchased a glass dome for the ornament to be displayed in.  

I am hoping they will display it in their home, along with the group photo, reminding them of their wonderful memories in Roanoke and the FIRST place they called home as a married couple.

Life is certainly going to look different for a while both HERE, in Roanoke, and in Tennessee.  It's not easy saying goodbye to someone.  Empty seats will exist, new friendships will need to be discovered, intentional LOVE and staying in touch will be necessary, and some of the most amazing memories will be reminisced on often. 

I read a quote from a pastor that went something similar to this, "The kingdom doesn't grow by holding on, but rather by letting go!" SO... I am staying focused on letting go simply because I know Brett and Jody will do MIGHTY things at their new church, Lyon's Creek Baptist Church.  BUT, it doesn't mean I can't hold on to my love for them and memories made with them.  

We will be praying for all of their adjustments, for their faith to increase, and for the Lord's will to be evident to them as they walk in obedience. This is not goodbye, but so long.  Shoot, we plan to go visit them and hang out in DOLLYWOOD soon!!! LOL!  We love you WILLIAMS' family.  

Labor Day ~ 2016

On Labor Day, we were invited over to our friends', the Fernandez Family, home.  We were fed well. Our associate Pastor prepared racks of ribs, that had been slow roasting since 5 a.m.. The meat was literally just falling off.  It was scrumptious. Everyone brought a dessert or a small something to share.  The kids swam and swam and swam.  The dads and moms chatted away.  It truly looked like a middle school dance: the guys were on the right side of the pool and the moms were on the left side of the pool.  LOL! 

Eventually, a game of "watermelon ball" began!  

Then, the kids did a little dancing off of the diving board!

And... eventually, an arm wrestling fight ALMOST broke out!!! #scaredies

It's always nice to get together with your family in Christ. We are always thankful for friends opening up their homes. I keep saying I need to do this more often myself. Eeeek! Just the thoughts of hosting an event like that overwhelms me. Haha. BUT, I promise the desire is there.

An Adult Night OUT In Honor Of Valentine's Day!

YAHOO! It's the BEST moment of your life when you can get out WITHOUT children and have a little CHEAP adult fun.  By cheap, I mean, a dear sister in Christ offered her time, as well as a few teens in the church, to keep kids for $5 per kid (not per hour, just per kid) for a 3 hour time frame. Thanks Crystal Lawson, Abrianna, John-John, and Cami.  Our entire small group ceased the opportunity to be able to be together and planned to do dinner and go-kart racing. The weather was just too cold, so we chose to go bowling instead.  

The week leading up to our sextuplet date there were mounds of texts exchanged about what to wear, shoes, hair, make-up, and the like.  Even the guys sent texts back and forth.  They'll deny it, but it's the truth. Our men really do care, they just like to pretend they don't. You could tell we were all really excited about being together without the interruption of the kids.  

I even shopped for a new outfit.  I wound up buying three dresses and one pant suit from Macy's.  I just didn't know which to wear until the last moment.  I even went to the salon and got my hair blown out. It was a partial Valentine's Day gift to Darren. He loves my hair curly, but he enjoys the switch up from time to time.  

 It takes 2.5 hours, in a salon chair, to blow dry and flat iron this horse main! iPhone photos...blah. I thought the photo below was an HAIR-larious photo. Half curly/half straight.

 $70 later, I guess it's worth it.  I don't know.  That seems like an awful lot to just to have your hair straight for a few days.  

We chose a place close by, to where our children were stationed, to eat, Icki Ban. It's very similar to Kabuki where the Japanese Chefs cook right in front of you. When we arrived and waltzed to our tables, we were like an entourage. All eyes seemed to be on us. It wasn't because we are famous in Salem.  LOL! I think we were a tad over dressed for Icki Ban, so you could imagine the looks we got at the Bowling Alley.  Eating at Icki Ban posed for a ton of laughter, fun memories, and good conversation. We each had an opportunity to catch a hot shrimp in our mouths.  Everyone caught it precisely, except for Zach and Dennis. It took Dennis three tries and he eventually caught a DUO of shrimp (two at one time).  We are assuming this is a sign that he and Shannon must be having twins. Zach tried hard to capture the shrimp in his BIG mouth, but his head hit the wall and the shrimp popped out of his mouth.  

Again, we were going to go go-kart racing after dinner, but the temperature was 13 degrees.  TOOO COLD for racing, so we went bowling instead. It was fun!!! Guys against the girls. Below, Darren is impersonating someone and Aaron is quickly amused.

Brett and Jody were not having a very good time, so they decided to fall asleep.  Apparently, they were having more fun in their sleep, while Lisa was day dreaming.

 I wonder if Jody was also bowling while sleeping.  LOL!

It took three times to try and capture a good shot.  The men weren't being cooperative.  They refused to look at the camera at the same time! I think they think they are funny or something.  Hehe.

We were all together from 6:00 pm until 9:30 pm.  It was a fantastic way to celebrate Valentine's Day! We all agreed we need to do this much more often. It's so refreshing, fun, and enjoyable. Love you all!

Ty spent the night out and the twins passed out when we got home. They had such a fantastic time and asked when they could do that again! We had a fun night and a peaceful evening.
