Some labels and the next projects on the go...
I am at a strange place with my quilting projects. The only thing on the go is the Farmer's Wife Quilt Along. I have been rattling around, staring at fabric, flipping through magazines, and snooping through blogs for inspiration. I am a bit obsessed with the wonky points on the Card Tricks quilt so being a complete sucker for punishment, I am going to start another one. The aim is for no wonky points. We will see how that goes! I am going to use a stack of lovely romantic florals that I bought at the "by the pound sale" this past spring. Even Husband had to admit that this is my kind of fabric. I have been busy today pressing the squares and cutting down the fabric to charm square size. Lots of cutting.
The next thing on the go will be a vintage sheet quilt for Daughter to drag around camping with her. I have a stack of sheets pulled with that in mind but have yet to have a thought on what this will look like. More stewing required.
The other day I made more labels. I took something quite familiar. Used this tutorial and made these.
Recycling at its finest. Moda uses lovely twill tape to wrap their jelly rolls. I have saved it without a particular use in mind until this... and I am quite happy to reuse it as a label.

Labelled!
I am delivering this quilt tomorrow so I think it is safe to show the label. Especially since I know what my dear friend Sue is going to be up to this evening. Yep, we are going to see the movie "Bad Teacher." Pretty funny as we are both principals. Our other friend thinks it is a hilarious idea to go to this movie with 2 principals. The movie looks absolutely hilarious and I have to say that I have great teachers on my staff!
I made this quilt for Sue. 2 years ago, she was appointed my vice-principal and we became great friends. Sue is going off to be principal at her own school and I felt that a quilt would be just the ticket to say how much I have enjoyed these years and how much I value her as a friend and as a colleague. So... snuggle up Sue with some Fresh Flowers for you!
You can scroll down to yesterday's post for all the details about fabric and pattern, if you are burning with curiosity!
And some real fresh flowers blooming today in the garden.
Linking with with Quilt Story's Fabric Tuesday... Check out all the lovely projects! Check in here tomorrow for my first giveaway ever to celebrate the end of the school year!

on a cold Thursday...
I am messing around trying to make the perfect label for my quilts. I have used the tutorial available here and I have tried using the fabric pieces that you can run through your printer. That worked just fine but I really don't like the texture of the fabric. It is really very stiff. Using the tutorial above from Patchwork Pottery, your labels come out okay and you then iron them on to twill tape but then you have a label that has that plastic-y sort of texture like when you iron something onto a t-shirt. Okay, but kind of, well, ewww. I have not yet found a place to have labels printed up here in Canada. If anyone knows of a place, please holler. Or even holler if you have successfully ordered labels from the U.S.
I made a little care tag for the baby quilt because it was being given to son's girlfriend's friend. It made me happy.
And this also makes me happy. I was sitting here with the laptop and heard our wee friend swoop in for a landing and a sugary snack. I had the camera and I actually got a picture before the little hummingpiggy took off. Cute, or what????
