WIP Wednesday...

So there.

Works in progress report for August 8.   Before you know it, I will be back at work and the blueberries have been taking a ton of time but I still managed to make some progress over the last week.

1)  I started my Proverbial quilt which is part of the Proverbial quilt along with Krista at Poppyprint.
silly picture of me with the pattern!!!!
This just the very beginning obviously but I am working on the refrain of "You are my sunshine..."  The word "are" has not been joined or trimmed so is there in all its wonky glory.  This is going to be a long term, take your time project and I am quite excited about it!
2)  I have been working on a wee swap item and actually have finished it but cannot show it quite yet.  Cute!
3)  Working on a tutorial for the "Let's Get Acquainted" blog hop hosted by Beth at Plum and June which stops right here next Thursday!

4)  Finished my baby girl quilt.  Yay!!!!  I love it!  Lovely Stars and Ice Cream!

5)  Working on a baby boy quilt.  I love making baby quilts.  It is my new favourite thing.

That's it!  Linking up with Work In Progress Wednesday and I am off to bag a bunch of blueberries for the freezer.  It will be a sewing day today and the berries will have to wait because I am happy to say it is raining lightly!!!  Who would have thought that I would have been happy about rain!!!!

Lovely Stars and ice cream

I love this quilt.  It makes me quite happy.  The colours speak to me of ice cream.  Measuring about 42" by 42", I think it will make a lovely baby girl quilt.  I used some of Sandy Gervais "lovely" line for Moda for the wonky stars and binding.  The wonky stars are set in a variety of solids and almost solid.  Some Kona Honeydew, Buttercup and Peach.  Some Bahama Blue too and a bunch of other things.  The quilt is backed with some yellow flannelette with a strip of leftover bits and quilted in my favourite Aurifil 50 wt in white.  I quilted several lines on either side of the blocks.  I think I have said this before but I like baby quilts kind of "floopy" so I don't like to quilt them a lot.

I was inspired by Faith's quilt over at her blog Fresh Lemons.  I like her quilts.  Just so you know.  And baby quilts are fun to make because they are finished quickly.  Does this one have a home yet?  Nope.  Just hoping it will do for one of the quilts son's lovely girlfriend needs to gift this fall.

100% made from stash fabrics.  How cool is that?

What's on the Design Wall?

I started a baby boy quilt.  Since I made a baby girl quilt last week, it was only fair that I made a boy quilt this week.  I picked up a great scrap bag the other day filled with samples of this Michael Miller fabric, The British Are Coming.  Seriously cute little mopeds.  I also had a bunch of samples of Sweetwater's Reunion line.  It just works together.  I added a bit of this and a bit of that and I am using this tutorial from Faith at Fresh Lemons.

Other than the fact that it is over 34 degrees and we picked endless blueberries again today, we are having a lovely weekend!  Hope you are too!  Linking up with Judy's Design Wall Monday.

Flea Market Finds on a really hot day!

Husband and I were out and about early today.  We knew it was going to be a hot one and we also knew we were going to be picking blueberries today... big time.  We stopped at the farmer's market and then I got a thrift store fix before we were home again.  I found a pair of matching twin flat vintage sheets in almost new condition for a grand sum of $1.50.  Sweet!!!!  And a lovely milk glass bowl.  It is about 8"-9" in diameter and I have to say that the bottom of the bowl is really quite lovely.  I also picked up a really tiny brass sewing box.  It is just itty bitty.  It makes a fabulous and satisfying click when it is closed.  Sadly it was empty of all its little bits but I am quite taken with it all the same.

And we picked blueberries.  and more blueberries.  and more blueberries and guess what we will be doing tomorrow?

Some Fabric for Friday...

I picked these fat quarters up the other day.   I think I was thinking of the Olympics.  Cute or what?  Husband and I have been junking out on lots of Olympic coverage.  I enjoy our own commentary far more than those paid to comment.

And on a completely different topic... can you take a look at those sunflowers against the wood shed??  They are the tallest sunflowers we have ever grown.  Happy Friday!

Just Three and some randomness...

To start with... I should have done this post in conjunction with Fresh Sewing Day but better now than never!  I accomplished all my July Just Three goals.

1) Finished my cross string blocks quilt.   Yep, I did.
2)  Finished my Stash Mini.  Totally and it is on the wall by my stash.
3)  Started, finished and gifted Gemstones!

So what up for this month?????

My Just Three Goals are...
1)  Finish the Wonky Stars Sorbet baby quilt.  Since this is now on the floor, sandwiched and awaiting quilting, this will be an easy finish.

2)  I want to get a start on the Proverbial quilt which is a quilt along with Krista from Poppyprint!  I have the pattern and have fabric pulled.  I have my quote and am ready to roll.  This is meant to be a slow-ish project so I plan on poking away at this one.  I am most excited about it!

3)  I have to make a swap item for the Modern Scrappy Bits Swap.  Just a little something-something.  That will be fun!

So those are my Just Three goals.  Easy Peasy.

Here comes the randomness...

My fabulous local quilt shop is closing and I am just so unhappy about this.  There just is not another like it close by and I am filled with sadness.  It is just so sad to see the shelves becoming bare and even though I have been happily stocking up on fabric at clearance prices, it will be a real loss.  I know that many quilters in the guild and locally all share my sadness.  Of course, I wish Teresa and Rachel all the best and the shop will be greatly missed.

I guess I started with the random sadness so will move to random happiness.  I received this lovely mug rug in the mail from Julianne!  It is just so pretty!  Thank you!!!!!  Nice beachy colours.  Julianne is making a cross string block quilt like the one I finished this past month.

And one more random thought.  How big are baby quilts supposed to be?  There seems to be a whole lot of random there.  Just saying.

So there you have it Just Three and randomness.  Linking up with Tracey for Just Three!  and linking up with Cindy for Random Thursday too!!!

Way too much fun...

I made a few sets of doll bedding.  Way too much fun.  I get an extreme kick out of making the pillow cases.  What is that?  Doll quilts are an awesome way to use up some scrappy bits.  With these little quilts, I just used a layer of flannelette sheeting rather than batting.  It makes the quilt a little more doll friendly but I have to say that it makes it more of a challenge to quilt when there is not as much substance.

These little finish at about 25" square.  Cute!

I had an awesome day yesterday with a drive into Vancouver with a friend.  We had a great time at Granville Island and even managed to stop at the Spool of Thread!  Awesome!!!!  Enjoy the sunshine!
