Poll: Tea Party Less Popular Than Muslims, Atheists, 21 Other Groups

The Tea Party ranks lower than any of the 23 other groups we asked about — lower than both Republicans and Democrats. It is even less popular than much maligned groups like “atheists” and “Muslims.” Interestingly, one group that approaches it in unpopularity is the Christian Right.

In a letter on Friday, Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) asked President Obama to repudiate Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s insistence that in order to deal with the nation’s debt and deficit, additional revenue should come from tax increases and cuts to entitlement programs, such as Medicare, instead of the reducing military spending.

TPM notes that Obama gave his answer in a speech today in which he backed Panetta. Obama said there isn’t much more to cut beyond the defense and domestic spending reductions that were part of the debt ceiling deal last week. “What we need to do now,” Obama said, “is combine those spending cuts with two additional steps: tax reform that will ask those who can afford it to pay their fair share and modest adjustments to health care programs like Medicare.”

A new congressional committee charged with finding $1.5 trillion in spending cuts by November 23 is expected to focus on Medicare, and the program would see automatic cuts if the committee failed to reach agreement, or if Congress did not approve its recommendations by December 23.

Market values of companies that depend on Medicare spending fell more than 10 percent in a sell-off on Wall Street after the agreement.

Fox reverses poll results to portray public as anti-union

A new poll was released Wednesday showing the public strongly supports union bargaining rights by a two-to-one margin.

The Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends” program displayed and voiced the results of the poll backwards, in a way that depicts the public as strongly opposed to unions.

It’s hard for me to believe Reagan would have any regard for the arrogant, sneering ignoramus that is Palin.

But her followers and the Young America’s Foundation, which hosted the event, seem to think otherwise.

Still, I believe even Palin lovers would have found her fumbling, awkward delivery less than inspiring.

She spoke as though she were reading the speech for the first time and having trouble reading her notes.

But one point she did get across, in between her dire whinings - I mean warnings, was her contention that she’s an heir to Reagan’s brand of conservatism.

Sarah thought about going on her talking tours with a chimp, but then realized that the chimp would outsmart her and steal the show.

In an interview with the New York Times Magazine published last week, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said, "The problem with the Tea Party, I think it's just unsustainable because they can never come up with a coherent vision for governing the country. It will die out."
