Made to honour my great Uncle...
The soldier was my Granny's brother who died during the First World War. He is buried at Grave 330 Sedan (St Charles) Communal Cemetery, Ardennes, France. My eldest son took a detour by the cemetery when he set off on the Mongol Rally earlier this year and took some photographs for me to add to the family tree. We believe he is the first family member to ever visit the grave. The quotes were made by him when he uploaded his photos to Facebook.
The kit was a freebie called Poppies which I found on the Daisytrail forum by a member called Bloggs and the layout was produced in Craft Artist.
In Flanders Field
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
