Bokeh Effect

Hi, Helen here hoping you all are in a good mood today.

I thought I´d show you some bokeh effects today.
Bokeh is what you get with your camera when you focus on an object in front of you and light sources in the background will end up just as dots.

It has a dreamy feeling to it.

I chose light colours for this, I wanted the dreamy, romantic feeling.
Soo just scribbling in some areas with my colours, B0000-RV0000-Y0000, letting they overlap each other to blend.

And this time I wanted to not color my whole background so the colour fades out, used flick marks.

With my colourless blender I made circles in different sizes in the background. I took a drop of the colourless ink on the nib to be sure the nib was really wet. And I worked all circles, to blend the colour beneath, moving the pigment to the edges of the circles.

I also wanted some bokeh effect to be coloured, as if the light sources was coloured.
Used the same colours as for my background, but putting them in another colours area.

Letting the backgroud dry.

Starting with the skin tone, E000, my lightest for the whole areas.

Got on with my darkest skin tone, E21. And I wanted the girl to be dark in the face pointing towards me, and light where the light from the background hits her face.

Softend E21 out with E50 and coloured in some cheeks with R11.

Now to her dress. I wanted it to be crisp white but yet dark towards me.
Started with a pale blue, B0000, to get the crispness of the white.

In the folds I used C1.

Blending C1 with C00 and B0000.

And got over the colour edges with some colourless blender to softened it out to the white parts.
And made more bokeh dots in the background.

The dress under got C3 on it, leaving the edges white as if they where hit by the light.

Her little tag got a first layer of E40.

The next layers was with E44-E42.

Got on with my bokeh dots and now coloured ones.

More bokeh dots, and in different sizes.

I layered some of the dots on top of each other to blend, Don't forget to have some dots going behind the object.

I wanted her wings to be sheer so first I got in with my background colours, RV0000-B0000.

On top of that I just coloured some BG70-BG72 on the edges.

Her present got a coat of R81-R85-R83.
Her socks got R81-R85, C0-C3.

And a shadow casting toward me as the light is coming from the background. Used C00-C1-C3, and the shadow is darker as closer it is to her.

As I tend to do, I coloured another one. I started with this but messed up my background by dropping the colourless blender right on to the paper. The bokeh dot got little to big for me and as you can see a dark ring around. But I liked it aswell...

Here is the dress just coloured in grey tones and the crispness is lost, it´s just dark or a grey dress.
For the face and skin I used B20 for shadows, so she got more dark and I liked that. I also used darker tints for the shadow casting from her to fit the darker dress and face.

If you use darker colours in your background the bokeh effect will be easier to make and see, using colourless blender or light colours for the bokeh dots.

Poinsetta

Hello everyone!

Franz here with a new little Copic project again...

Today I've a card with a lovely Tilda from Magnolia; Magnolia stamps are always so sweet and lovely, especially the Christmas ones!

I used a classic Christmas colour combo: red and warm grey to give a vintage touch to the white areas of the image.

For my character, I created a romantic card with lots of lovely embellishments.

Here is the complete list of Copic Markers I've used:

Skin: E0000, E000, E00, E11 + R20 for cheeks
Hair: E00, E13, E15, E18, E25
Outfit - White: W1, W3, W5
Outfit - Red: 0, R22, R29, R35, R37, R59

Thank you all for reading,
 a BIG hug,
Franz.

Wedding Card

Hi you all!

Hope all is well! My summer vacation is over and I started back to work last Monday. But that is ok, I have lots of energy and I really enjoy my job.

Today's card is for a friend's wedding!

I really wanted to keep the colors light and soft but I don't know what happened. The wedding cake is a bit soft, but that's all =). The stamp is from Magnolia and I like it. It's a bit simple when you compare it to their other stamps, not much to color you would think. I got to practice my coloring-white skills.

I have used the following Markers

Cake W3-1-00-000-Blender
Bow BV04-02-01-00

Have a nice weekend!

Birthday card

Hello!

It´s time for me, Christina, to hang around here at Copic Europe today.

I have made a birthday card - as usual - for a colleague of mine. She turned 60 a couple of weeks ago and can you guess her favourite colour? Yep - it´s purple! Not my cup of tea but I have found a few purple markers that I really like.

The stamp is from Magnolia and I simply love this one. It's perfect when you don´t know what image to use. It works well when you make a Birthday card, a Get Well card or a New Job card. And I get to colour some wood =). It's fun and a bit tricky!

The sentiments are from Gummiapan and the lovely designer papers are from Maja Design!

These are the Markers I have used:

Wheel barrow W6-4-E49-47-44-42-40
Flowers BV29-V28-25-22-20
Petals/grass YG99-97-95

Have a lovely Sunday!

Tutorial - coloring bricks

Hi you all!

It's Christina and today it's my turn to show a tutorial. I have really thought about this one and tried to come up with a good idea. The other day, when I was colouring a stamp for a Christmas card it hit me. I can make a tutorial of how to colour a brick wall. Or in my case - a brick chimney.

I had an idea of Santa going down the chimney or should I say - getting stuck going down.

I have masked two Magnolia stamps together as you can see below.

Instead of showing you picture by picture how I have made my tutorial I made a little movie.

My first one ever when I colour. I was a bit nervous. I wanted the bricks to have that rough way of looking, filthy and old. I got some editing help with my film from my daughter. We took away all the background noise (otherwise you would hear my husband doing Spanish with my son ;) ) and we sped it up a bit. Hope you will enjoy it.

Here is the final result:

I have used the following pens:

Bricks E19-17-15-13-43-W7
Boots W9-8-7 / Y26
Snow N2-1-0-BG70
Shadow C6-4-2-0-00

That's all from me! Have a nice week!

Hugs Christina

Tilda and Frosty

Hi!

It's time for me, Christina, to inspire you and I do it with a Christmas card. It's almost time to send them. A couple of weeks more and then they are off!
I just love to do Christmas cards and I'm usually finished by now because the past years I have made 1-2 card a month but not this year.

Not only do I love Christmas cards, I love doing them clean and simple.

Here is Tilda with Frosty the Snowman wishing Merry Christmans or God Jul in Swedish.

Don´t you just love coloring in red? I know most of you think it´s difficult but I think if you practice and practice you will come to love it!

Here are the pens I have used:

Skin E04-11-02-YR00-000
Här E51-53-99
Red T5-E19-08-R27
Dark Grey C8-6-4
Mittens/hat C4-2-1
Shadow C2-0

Have a wonderful day!

hugs

Red Corvette

Hi!
It's me again - Christina - and it's my turn to inspire you this first day in October!
My friend's daughter passed her drivers test and she is now driving around in her cute little red car.  All happy! I have this gorgeous stamp from Magnolia and it's perfect for a "Congrats on passing your driving test"-card.

I just love to color in red, especially with the pens I have used. Can you imagine I have only used one R-pen?

Diny taught me this colour-combo a few years ago and it´s my absolute favorite combo. The card itself had to be clean and simple, I wanted the car to shine. No flowers or other decorations. The text says "Congratulations on passing your driving test" and it's in Swedish.

Now - what pens if not reds?

Red T5-E19-08-R27
Grey N9-8-6-5-3-2-1

That's all folks! Have a great day!

Christmas in July

Hello Copic lovers!
Christina here! Are you enjoying your summer? We have the perfect weather! For Copic coloring that is. Grey and rain, some days we even have a storm. So what can you do? Bake, clean and color, not necessarily in that order.

Have you started with your Christmas cards yet? Usually I make two cards per month but this year, so far, I haven't made a single one. Well now I have. I just love making Christmas Cards but it's no fun when it´s stressful, that is why I'm starting now in July.

I have chosen a stamp from Magnolia - Frosty - not much coloring you would think, since he is white...

I just love these Frosty stamps! He is soo cute! I have masked Frosty and the snowflake-circle together and the image gets quite big and I think a clean and simple card is perfect with a slightly bigger image.

There is a lot of white areas on him and to make it look white I have used some W-pens. Except from the hat, where I have use N-pens.

The background around Frosty I have used the Confetti-technique, mixed BGs and Ws dots.

Here are the pens I have used

Hat/scarf/mittens - BG75-72-(71)-70
White - W5-4-2-0-blender / N2-0-blender
Confetti BG72-70-W3-1-0

Have a great day!
