OWH Virtual Cardmaking Party Round 7

Still working on the  Virtual Card Making Party this weekend for OWH.  There are ten challenges and the linkys will stay open until Sunday September 8th.  So there is lots of time to play along. This challenge is from Marilyn at Blessed Creativity.  She asked us to make a fall card but not a Thanksgiving card.

I used a bonus sketch from OWH but it was not listed as one of the 32 bonus sketches on the OWH website.  Someone needs to add this one in.

My DP on this card is a retired Creative Memories Bountiful DP.  The ribbon is May Arts Sheer ribbon with ruffle in Antique Gold.  Sentiment is Stampin'Up!.

I also wanted to add my card to the tutorial on coloring House Mouse images.  I dug out one of mine and followed to tutorial to come up with this card.  I had forgotten that I did this one.  And now I have forgotten which OWH sketch I used and what DP I used.

Our Daily Bread Design June Challenge

The Starts and Stamps Blog over at Operation Write Home has a challenge every month sponsored by Our Daily Bread Designs.  This months challenge is water.  Our Daily Bread Designs pays for shipping of two boxes of cards to our troops overseas.  One carton for every 25 cards submitted to the challenge (25 cards=one box freely shipped, 50 cards=2 boxes) .  They also choose 2 random winners for $35 gift certificates to ODBD.   Please join in for a chance to win.

This puppy dog is still one of my favorite digital images from Hambo Stamps.  I colored him with Prismacolor markers.  The DP is "Splash - Sea Urchin Spots" by Little Yellow Bicycle.  Border punch is from Creative Memories (retired).

OWH Virtual Card Making Party

Updated Monday afternoon - all VCMP Challenges completed!

Scroll down to see the ODBD post (the first challenge in the VCMP).  I'll be adding to this post the rest of the weekend for the challenges at Operation Write Home and the "Rebel" Virtual Cardmaking Party (VCMP) instead of scrapbooking for National Scrapbook Day!  The second post for the VCMP is by Paula asking us to make a kids cards using a sketch.  I used OWH Sketch #170.

Sketch Challenge #170

Papers and stamps are from Close to My Heart.

The third stop on the VCMP is at Sandy Allnock's blog "I Can't Stop Embellishing" she asked us to make a romantic card using an OWH tutorial.  I remember when Sandy showed us a way to paper piece this darling balloon from the Hero Arts OWH fundraising set.

This is the last of my opened packet of Creative Memories "Be Mine" addition.  (I have one unopened pack yet to use)  I had to print the sentiment out from my digital edition of the kit so I covered it with glossy accents to make sure it didn't bleed if it got wet.  I used the Cuttlebug Swirl EF to look like the wind.

The fourth stop on the VCMP is at Nancy Keller's blog "Scrap Happens"  she challenged us to use a scrapbook sketch instead of a card sketch to make our card.  Cool idea and I took one of the ones she had posted on her blog and made this.

from this sketch from Page Maps:

The butterfly is from the Potpourri Basket Cricut Cartridge.  The love stamp and punch is from Stampin'Up!

The fifth challenge for the VCMP was the Sunday Sketch #171 over at OWH.

171

Cardstock and DSP is from the Buzz and Bumble kit from Close to My Heart (CTMH).  The stamp is from the CTMH "Pun Fun."  I colored the bee with Tim Holtz Distressed Markers in Mustard Seed and Vintage Photo.

Challenge number six was Julie on her blog "Handmade by Julie"  to use a photo you took and make a card to send to one of our Heroes.

This is a photo I took out the car window on the way up Lookout Mountain here outside of Denver.  There were a lot of deer out grazing that day.  Of course the old song "Home on the Range" came to mind and so I used Creative Memories Storybook Creator 4.0 to make the digi I printed.  I used the Bleeding Cowboy font and an embellishment from the Creative Memories Rugged Outdoors digital kit.

The last challenge #7 was from JoAnn Ross to make a Summertime card.

This stamp set was the April Close to My Heart Stamp of the Month.  Very appropriate for summer!  The quote is from Bob Marley -- "The sun is shining.  Weather is sweet.  Make you wanna move your dancing feet."

Sandy Allnock added one additional "bonus" challenge to make a card using googly eyes.  There are no googly eyes in my crafting supplies so I will pass on that one!  LOL!

Hope you had a great weekend!  Happy Crafting!

Inkspirational Challenge Lucky #13

The Inkspirational Challenge for this last week was a sketch challenge.  I am barely getting this in under the wire! (UPDATE:  Somehow the link was closed even though it was 3PM MDT -- don't know how I missed it!)
The sketch:

My Card:

The wreath piece was laying on my desk and was a left over from an old Creative Memories Travel kit.  I wanted to use the gorgeous button I picked up at Hobby Lobby the other day.  The DSP is Pebbles "Fresh Goods Rain Check" (the other side has a darling red and white check --you might see that later).  Pearls are Creative Charms (out of business).  Ribbon and Sentiment is Stampin'Up!  Ink is Tim Holtz Distressed Ink in Vintage Photo.

Scrapbooking!

I play with cards so much that I don't scrapbook often.  I really need to change this because I have a lot of photos to scrapbook.  Most of the time I scrapbook using Storybook Creator 4.0 from Creative Memories because I like the results and goes fast.  When I do dig out the paper I enjoy the feel and fun of creating with my fingers versus a mouse.  My March kit "Smaller Than a Breadbox" from Apron Strings Design came in the other day and there was this GORGEOUS Spring Seasons paper from Authentique in it!  I recently found these old photos of my daughter that I think my Dad must have taken and a layout resulted!
Thanks Lori over at Apron Strings for helping me get some old photos displayed!  The scalloped punch I used on the right side is from the Creative Memories Border Maker System.  I am submitting this for the Apron Strings Blog March Madness Day 10.

OWH Midweek Throwdown Blue and Green

The midweek throwdown at Operation Write Home (OWH) this week is a color throwdown using blue and green and a challenge to add orange or a neutral.  I have been having a lot of fun with OWH Sketch #162 (modified for this challenge).  When I found this cute blue and green sticker in my Creative Memories stash I knew this was the starting point for my card.

I have been working to use up this Fabulous Paper pack since Creative Memories has retired it.  There are still some supplies available but it is going away.  It has some great color combinations in it and I used the Mat Stack to make this card.  I inked the paper ribbon and paper buttons with Tim Holtz Distressed Ink ink in Dried Marigold.

OWH Sketch Challenge 163

Operation Write Home sketch challenge 163 is here.  Here is the sketch.

Here is my take on the sketch.

The rounded tag I used behind the bird stamps was throwing me off.  So I thought if I rounded the top corners it would look better.  Darn -- I had already glued the DSP to the cardstock so it looks weird because the DSP corners are not rounded.  Still I like the overall vintage look to the card.

Products Used:
Stamps:  Inkadinkadoo Butterflies and Birds (retired)
DSP Creative Memories Vintage Romance (only available in digital)
Creative Memories Expresso Cardstock
Ribbon Recollections Lace on a Roll ( Michael's)
Ink:  Tim Holtz Distressed Inks in Tea Dye and Vintage Photo

OWH Midweek Throwdown Tic Tac Toe

The Midweek Throwdown this week for Operation Write Home was a Tic Tac Toe Grid for us to choose from.

I chose Ribbon, Tag and Rhinestones.  I was using up some of my stash.  I always liked this vintage paper but it is time to let it go and have someone else enjoy it too! :-)

DSP and Tag is Creative Memories Vintage Romance (only available in a digital version now).  Sentiment is Hero Arts OWH Set Right At Home.  I embossed the sentiment using Versamark Ink and Zing Opaque White Embossing Powder.  I toned down the white with a little Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distressed ink.  Ribbon is from my stash.

Retrosketchs Challenge #45

When I saw the gorgeous card by Arielle Gordon (Snappy Stamper) on the Retrosketches Challenge #45, I knew I had to CASE it using the Operation Write Home Hero Arts Happy Birthday Stamp Set!

The sentiment a heart paper is from the Creative Memories "Be Mine" digital edition.  The Puffy Clouds Dies are from Memory Box.  The embossing folder is Cuttlebug  D'vine Swirl.  This card will be on its way next week to Operation Write Home for our Heroes to write home to loved ones on!

Graphic 45 Place in Time Calendar

I am in love with the Graphic 45 Place in Time paper.  I am doing a calendar sheet each month and hanging it in my Creative Memories Magnetic Display.  The new displays don't have the ribbon across the front like mine.  They are sized to fit a 12 x 12 page.  It is a nice way to showcase your scrapbook creations.

I used SRM Calendar stickers for 2013 rather than make a calendar on the blank ones.  I'll post a new page each month to showcase the gorgeous paper.

Holiday Card Workshop Day 6

UPDATED!  Day 6 of the Online Card Classes Holiday Card Workshop is all about inking techniques.

For the dot background I used a Stampin'Up! stamp and wet embossed with opaque white embossing powder.  I cut a mask from heavy acetate using my Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations Snow Flurries.  Then I applied Tim Holtz Peacock Feathers, Seedless Preserves and Salty Ocean inks to the cards.  I applied a coat of Perfect Pearl over the card.  The delicate snowflakes are a Memory Box Die and the larger punched snowflake is from Creative Memories.  Sentiment and label punches are from Stampin'Up!

The second card for the day was a faux stained glass.  I had the perfect stamp for this that I have had for many, many years.

I only cut the top half of my Creative Memories Shimmer White Paper with the Stampin'Up! Apothecary Arts Framelits.  This gave it a steeple look.  I embossed the Shimmer Paper with the Cuttlebug Paper Lace Damask folder.  The stamp was colored in with Tim Holtz Distressed Markers and then painted with Perfect Pearls Gold.

Holiday Card Workshop Day 5

Getting closer to catching up with the Online Card Classes Holiday Card Workshop.  This card uses wet embossing, die cuts and Perfect Pearls.

I used the Stampin'Up! Layered Labels "Heartfelt" stamp.  I overlayed it with a sentiment from The Paper Studio.  Ink is Ranger Archival ink in Vermillion and Elmerald Green.  The embossing powder is Ranger Super Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder.  DSP is Noel available from Creative Memories as a Digital Kit.

Holiday Card Workshop Day 1

Wow, almost a whole month since I posted.  I've been busy.  We spent a week in Vail, CO for our anniversary.  When I got back it just seemed like one thing after another.  I signed up for the Online Card Classes Holiday Card Workshop.  Here is my first card for the workshop.

This is a 3x3 card to use as a gift card.  The Cricut cut is from the Creative Memories Cheerful Seasons cartridge.  The "Joy" is from Close to My Heart (one of the Art Philosophy Stamp Sets) heat embossed in gold.  Background paper is from my scraps.  The envelope paper is from the Creative Memories Holidazzel Kit (only available as a digital download now).  I used my Crafter's Companion enveloper to make my envelope.  It was very easy using their PDF printout with the correct measurements.

I need to get caught up with class as I am several days behind!

30th Wedding Anniversary

Thirty years of wedded bliss to the same wonderful man!  Here's a peek at the outside of the card that I made to give him today.

I generated my own sentiment using Creative Memories Storybook Creator 4.0.  The fonts are Lucinda Bright and Aquiline.  The 30 is stamped with Close to My Heart Bohemian Alphabet using Tim Holtz Walnut  Stain Distressed Ink and then coated with Ranger Glossy Accents.  I also used Glossy Accents over the "Love Story" letters.  The paper is from a Simple Stories 6x6 Documented Pad.  Lace and Ribbon are from my stash.  I inked the lace with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distressed Ink so it would match the paper.

Happy Crafting and Happy Anniversary to my Dear Husband!

Apron Strings Croptober Reboot Day 1

The Apron Strings blog is doing a Croptober.  Reboot Day 1 is to use the image below for inspiration.

I decided to make a card using the Apron Strings "September Smaller Than a Breadbox" kit.  I have been dying to use the Simple Stories paper with the large circles with sayings in them.  Here is the card I made.

The background paper is Simple Stories also.  The flowers are from the September Smaller than a Breadbox kit.  The ribbon is from my stash and the bling is  from Creative Charms.

Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge #28

The Doodle Pantry Blog is doing digital challenge #28.  The prize for participating is a beautiful digital image of poppies!  My daughter especially loves poppies.  Also poppies are a symbol for Veterans Day.  So I just had to participate in the challenge to get that image!  Here is my card.

This was the August challenge freebie but because of vacation I never entered the challenge.  Those ants on the moon are so darling.  The background paper is from the Creative Memories Discover Baby Boy Digital Kit  for Storybook Creator 4.0.  I thought the distressing in the upper left corner looks like tree leaves behind them.  The paper says "precious baby boy" all over it.  I printed the design twice so I could cut out and pop the stars and sentiment for some dimension.  The Sweet Dreams sentiment is die cut with the Stampin'Up! Apothecary Accent Framelit and inked with Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass Distressed Ink.  Bling is from Creative Charms.

Elegant Wedding Card and VCMP Challenge 9

I finally finished my last challenge (#9) from the Operation Write Home Virtual Card Making Party last weekend.  Shannon at Sharing My Work for OWH challenged us to use a neglected tool.  I used my heat embossing tool.  It has been a while since I heat embossed and the results turned out gorgeous.

This is a wedding card I made for the son of a friend.  I stamped the Stampin'Up! Mr & Mrs in Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink and embossed it with Zing Clear Finish embossing powder.  It gave it a nice shiny raised feeling.  I used the Stampin'Up! Apothecary Accent Framelit to cut it out.  The paper is Creative Memories Tie the Knot Addition (no longer available).  I used Our Daily Bread Stamps for the inside of the card.

Then I made a gift card holder from my new Close to My Heart Artiste Cricut Cartridge.  I found the idea on Diane's blog Capadia Designs.  She was one of the first blogs I ever started following right after I bought my Cricut.  This Gift card holder is on page 55 of the Artiste Cartridge book and is cut at 5 inches.
That's it for the Virtual Card Making Party Challenges.  I had fun doing them and created more cards in a weekend then I did all last month.

VCMP Challenge 8

I am finishing up the challenges from the Virtual Card Making Party (VCMP).  Challenge eight was to make a sports themed card.  This was perfect for me because my DH birthday is coming up this month and I needed a card for him. He coaches High School Baseball in the summer.

I was at a loss for a sketch idea until I noticed Paula's Card in the links.  I CASEd her card.  Thank you Paula!

VCMP Challenge 6 and 7

I am trying to finish up my challenges for the Virtual Card Making Party .  Challenge six was OWH Sketch 136  with Linda adding the twist of Use Your Punches.  Here is my take on the sketch.

Paper and Butterflies are from K&Company (I had to glossy accent the butterfly with the glitter)
Sentiment is Stampin'Up! Teeny Tiny Wishes
Punch is Word Window from Stampin'Up!

Now for Challenge Seven.  Sybrina K challenged us to make a Christmas Card for a Hero and a Christmas Card for a Hero to send home to a child.  That was a little tough for me as I don't do too many children's cards (mine is grown up and no grandkids yet!).  Here is what I came up with.

I used the Creative Memories Holidazzel Kit from Christmas last year.  It has some sparkly epoxy stickers that really brightened up the cards.  The paper edition is sold out but it is still available as a digital edition for both Storybook Creator 4.0 and other digital programs.  After I finished these cards I mad a bunch more and still have more paper left over to make some more.  OWH really got me crafting this weekend with the VCMP challenges!
