UN Military Vehicles Seen On Virginia Highways

[Posted comment]
Bobby Elrod  June 26, 2016
They're built at the BAE Systems plant in York, PA. From there they carried down I-81 to I-77, and then I-95 towards the port of Savannah to be shipped overseas.

What were United Nations vehicles doing in Virginia on Friday?
That’s what motorists were left to wonder when they saw UN tactical vehicles — with bulletproof glass — on a flatbed truck and rolling down Interstate 81.
Jeff Stern posted several photos of Facebook and added the description, “Can’t begin to tell you how many of these I passed today on 81 near Lexington, VA. Interesting times ahead!”“Tactical Vehicles, with bullet proof glass? What ever could those be for, and why are UN vehicles here, in THIS country?!” Fernando Johnson questioned, while Vincent Sammons noted, “They are sealed against gas too.”

Three Dead On Pennsylvania Highway Due To Weather

Police told the Chicago Tribune that three people died in the crash and pictures from the scene showed injured people at the scene.

[From article]
At least three people have died after 'total whiteout' conditions and severe winds caused a huge 50-car pile-up on a highway in Pennsylvania.
The I-78 outside Harrisburg, in Lebanon County, was a scene of carnage this afternoon, with tankers, lorries and regular cars all involved in the massive crash.
Police told the Chicago Tribune that three people died in the crash and pictures from the scene showed bloodied people being stretchered towards air ambulances.
The smash came after snowstorm alerts were issued for the Philadelphia area, as well as swathes of the north east of the United States.
[. . .]
Dozens of vehicles collided as 30mph winds battered the road, which has since been shut down on both sides after the horror crash.
As well as the three dead, ore than 70 people had been taken to hospitals and another 70 were taken to a shelter set up at a fire station. At least three are in a critical condition.
The pile-up on Saturday morning came amid poor visibility, with roads packed with families getting away for the long weekend.
Ashley Fisher was driving on the I-78 with her two daughters when she was turned around by police.
'The snow just started and it was a total whiteout. The car in front of us just disappeared,' she told NBC News.
[. . .]
'We were able to stop, but a couple cars slid and hit the shoulder.'
She added that the whole westbound side of the highway was 'just a mess'.
'It just turned real white,' Raul Jardine told the Tribune.
He slowed down when visibility became so poor that he could only see brake lights ahead of him, causing his car to be rear-ended
The mayhem came as the north east was hit by an arctic blast freezing temperatures and biting windchill struck.
[. . .]
Temperatures plummeted to below zero in New York state as windchill made it feel as cold as -24F.
New York City itself was 19F as people woke this morning, but it felt more like 4F as a polar vortex began to sweep across the east of the United States.
Windchill will make it feel like it is -19F in Manhattan later on Saturday and Valentine's Day could be just as cold.
Mayor Bill be Blasio warned New Yorkers to take 'extreme precautions' today and on Sunday, which could see the coldest temperatures in a decade for much of the Northeast as forecasters warned of 'life-threatening' subzero conditions.
In Buffalo it was -1F, with a mammoth windchill making it feel 21 degrees colder. That temperatures was expected to drop another couple of degree this morning as flurries of snow came down.
A wind chill advisory was in effect for New York City beginning Saturday afternoon and continuing to noon Sunday, with the forecast predicting temperatures of 2F.
Wind chills are expected to drop 18F to 24F below across the region and wind gusts may reach 45mph.
But the Big Apple will have it easy compared to the likes Boston, with a low at 2 degrees below zero, and temperatures in Worcester, Massachusetts to drop as low as -11F.
[. . .]
Weather Channel Forecaster Michael Palmer said anyone who dares step outside Sunday morning will feel like they're 'walking into a freezer'.
'This will be the coldest air for more than a decade,' he told NBC News.
The National Weather Service warned that residents take precautions to protect themselves from frostbite or hypothermia conditions.
De Blasio told New York residents to heed cold-weather warnings, adding that city workers would also bring people living on the street to shelters or hospitals.
The anticipated temperatures were so cold the Central Park Conservancy decided to cancel the annual Central Park Ice Festival, meant to be held on Saturday.
It was the second time the weather dampened fun in Central Park.
Last month a free winter sports day called Winter Jam was canceled because of Storm Jonas.
Lighter winds and sunshine will greet the city on Sunday, but temperatures are still expected to be in the single digits, according to AccuWeather.
Meanwhile, a midwinter heat wave is smashing records in California.
Temperatures on the southern west coast rocketed into the 90s for the second consecutive day on Tuesday even as the warming Santa Ana winds that came in on Saturday began to fade.
Forecasters said strong high pressure will continue through the week, keeping afternoon temperatures well above normal until at least Valentine's Day on Sunday.

Texas Trooper Arrested For Offering Speeding Woman Driver $300 To Have Sex With Him

Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Christopher Champion, pictured, has been fired.

[From article]
A Texas state trooper has been fired and arrested after he allegedly tried to make a woman have sex with him after pulling her over during a traffic stop.
Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Christopher Champion, 31, was arrested and booked into the Bexar County jail on charges of prostitution and official oppression Monday night, KSAT reported.
The incident allegedly happened September 17 when a 20-year-old woman filed a complaint claiming that Champion tried to pay her for sex after stopping her for speeding somewhere along northbound Interstate 35.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, the woman said that Champion made her get out of the car and began to have a conversation with her.
KSAT reported that at one point, Champion told her to drive to the parking lot of a nearby Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q restaurant and that once in the parking lot, he offered to first pay her $100 for sex.
He then increased the amount to $300 after she refused.
The woman told investigators that he took her cell phone and sent himself a text message so that he would have her telephone number, the affidavit stated.

Under the guidance of investigators, the woman began communicating with Champion and led the trooper to believe that she was agreeing to have sex with him.
The conversation via text message and over the phone was recorded by authorities.
[. . .]
During their communications, Champion also sent the woman a number of pictures of himself, including one in which he's wearing his uniform, KSAT reported.
Champion, who worked for DPS since 2008, was fired Tuesday.
According to jail records, he was released from the Bexar County Jail on bond around 5am.
Official oppression is a Class A misdemeanor and prostitution is a Class B misdemeanor.

The accident happened about 12:30 a.m. near exit 7 of I-91 north, according to state police at the Troop I barracks in Bethany.
Lauren A. Mohr, 34, stopped to assist two motorists and fell off a concrete wall and then off a bridge, they said. She dropped about 40 feet, state police said, calling Mohr a good Samaritan.
[. . .]
Mohr was a temporary worker in the undergraduate admissions office of Quinnipiac University, according to university spokesman John Morgan.
"She comes in during our busy season," he said.
She was the stepdaughter of Joan Isaac Mohr, vice president for Admissions and Financial Aid.
A graduate of Mark T. Sheehan High School in Wallingford, Mohr earned her associates degree from Middlesex Community College, Morgan said. She planned to study social work at Southern Connecticut State University in the fall.
At the time of the accident, she was returning from her job at Barcelona Restaurant and Wine Bar, Joan Mohr told Morgan.
[. . .]
State police tweeted a warning to motorists Thursday morning: People should refrain from getting out of their cars when on a highway, they said.
If a motorist's car becomes disabled, he or she should pull as far to the right as possible and call 911, they say.

Dangerous Highway Guard Rails

Patrolman Richard E. Pelkey
Lake Placid Police Department, New YorkEnd of Watch: Thursday, August 12, 1954

[From article]
in 1954 in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.
[. . .]
Responding to reports of a squatter in a cabin, four Lake Placid Police officers surrounded the structure before rushing the door. They were, after all, looking for a thief not a murderer. Call was hidden in a shower stall in the basement, waiting. Officer Richard Pelkey was the first one to enter the basement. Call shot him twice in the abdomen with a Luger. He shot the next officer twice in the stomach, then used him as a human shield before shooting another officer twice in the chest. As the gunman retreated through the back door, the fourth officer held his fire, unable to get a clear shot. Call dropped the injured officer he held in front of him, and ran into the woods. Officer Pelkey died eight days later. The two other injured officers recovered.
[. . .]
Call was sentenced to 20 years in prison for first-degree murder. He served nearly 14 years. After his release, he moved to Ohio and married a woman 25 years his junior. Four years later, after purchasing a Lotus Europa racing car, he hit a guard rail at 90 mph. The guard rail pierced the driver’s side door clear through the passenger door. Call had literally been impaled with a giant steel lance. Thus ended
the tale of the Bushy-Haired Gunman.

Greyhound Bus Turns Over

Statistics quoted in the article are about tour buses, which notoriously have poor drivers, some who can't read English signs. This was a line bus from a long term established interstate carrier Greyhound. The quality of drivers has dropped like the quality of politicians. They do not pay attention, use cell phones, drive while impaired, and they follow too closely. Some people dislike being groped at airports and taking 8 hours for a 4 hour train trip. Buses are the most reliable for interstate travel. Driving a car brings the highest danger when traveling.
