I can now reveal the teacher pouches that I whipped up a few weeks ago. I was pattern testing again for the wonderful Aneela Hoey, and today she has released the Baggy (Bottom) pouch pattern, which you can find here.
Why she thought of me to test these, must be some sort of mistake, or coincidence or something, but my own baggy bottom and I loved making these!
I made the smaller size, and used heavy weight fusible fleece, which gave mine less of a baggy look and more of a 1950's silhouette, which is a fun bonus!
These are so satisfying to make; the additional, optional embroidery in the pattern is a lovely touch; but my machine and I were too scared to try, this time!
Please check out all Aneela's other new patterns too, I am thinking of making a couple of Pull Out Boxes for some of the men in my life.
Oh and another reveal; remember the mahoosive Cotton & Steel blocks I made a few months back, well the quilt they were destined for was completed and handed over to Aneela on the weekend…
Pennie did an amazing job organising the A (for Aneela) Team (which included Ms Melody Miller herself, just sayin'), and it was a privilege to be part of brilliant collective.
Here's to secrets and stitchery x

Ahoy!
Over the weekend I had time to fulfil my monthly commitment to Bee Blessed, making a couple of sweet sailing boats which will end up in another quilt pieced with love by the fab BB ladies…
What makes me particularly happy about these blocks is that I will be able to hand them over in person to Jude and Sarah in a month's time!!

Let's start at the very beginning...
… a very good place to start.
I already know that I am going to have to break FQR2014 down into multiple posts, because I still haven't been able to get it all straight in my head; there was so much information to digest and ideas to ponder over, I don't want to forget anything.
So let's see how far I get!
Friday. It started with a 4am thunderstorm and power cut, meaning all sorts of re-setting phone alarms and worrying about the lack of hot water and straighteners in the morning! By 'wake up time' it was all good; and by 10am I was on the train, not quite sure what to expect.
I was checked into my hotel by midday, then strolled up in the ridiculous heat to BP House.
The welcome committee was in place, Lynne, Brioni, Tacha and Trash, plus the 2 Jacks; game on! A quick hello with Tammy, Betty and a few others, and by the time we decided to escape the heat and decamp to the terrace, more and more lovely people were arriving and we headed on into the wonderfully air-conditioned hall.
I have to admit, when the FQly ladies began the Intro, I was wondering where everyone else was! I don't know the exact numbers but compared to the manic squeeze at the beginning of the last couple of years, the hall was virtually empty.
I was so excited that I got to meet some of my long-time 'friends' for the first time, like Sarah-Fairyface, Joanne, and Blueberry Park Karen as well as old buddies like Cindy, Sonia, Sarah and Nicky and, of course, Brit Bee buds Troods and Di. So many more, so forgive me if you haven't been name-checked, but if I am not careful this will be playing out in real time like 24!
First class, quilting with Jen Kingwell - A-MAZING!!!!
I absolutely love Jen Kingwell, and I don't care who knows it - I think I may have told her anyway! Not only are her quilts the most beautiful things I have ever seen and touched, (oh there was lots of touching!), but she is the most engaging, interesting and down to earth funny lady I have ever had the pleasure of listening to!
I didn't stitch much, but, I was too busy having a wonderful time!
After an hour and a half, including a power cut, (pity the poor folks using sewing machines or in the windowless hall!), I had learned more than I have learnt years! All mostly simple and 'obvious when you know', but still 'new to me' tips and tricks. The real life Gipsy Wife and Green...Beans quilts are beyond stunning, I could gush for hours!!
Let's just say this short and intimate session, (I think there was only a dozen of us), set the tone for my weekend, and I didn't stop smiling!
My other class on Friday was embroidery with Jo-Bearpaw, more love!
I was not particularly good, there was some unpicking and a lot of squinting (oh my rubbish eyes!), but I learnt the wonders of the whip-backstitch and how not to do bullion knots!
I even stitched up a little more that night in bed, and have been slowly adding more since coming home; so hoping to have this one finished some time soon.
After classes, there was time for a trip to Waitrose, a freshen up and then off to dinner.
A typically raucous affair, so much laughing and chatting; I was next to Cindy and opposite Sarah, Jenny F-P, Love P&Q editor and Karen, and despite the heat, did I mention it was hot, we had a brilliant time. Good food and good company, the perfect end to the day.
Is that enough for now?
Saturday was huge, but I will try my best to cram that into the one post tomorrow.
I haven't even mentioned the goody-bag received on arrival, that will need another post all to itself!

Twit T'woo...
Today I am thanking my lovely super talented friend Sarah for the newest addition to the FB family...
I've decided (s)he needs to come to work with me already, and act as a constant reminder that, away from my desk, I do actually have a life!!
You may remember that I made Sarah a name tag recently for FQR 14; this is my reward! There was beautiful wrapping and everything, but I was too eager and that part missed the photo-call, sorry.
Thanks again my friend, it's perfect xxx
Have a great weekend everyone - there should be some Creeper stitching going on round here, so wish me luck!

Show off!
I love winning things, and I really love winning things that I love!
When I saw that there was going to be one specific FAL prize, made and donated by my lovely friend Sheila, and seeing that I had asked and she had sent me the pattern ages ago, and I never got round to making it - I had my fingers crossed!
So how happy am I!?
My girls couldn't congratulate me enough for obviously being so brilliant that I won the best thing they have ever seen!!! I am in total agreement.
Mega-pinnie by name, mega-pinnie indeed! It was loaded up with my must-haves within minutes of opening the box, all I need now are new pins, mine are way too shabby and bent up for this awesome new home.
Thank you again Sheila, and Leanne, you made a dismally wet Friday way better!
And if that isn't showing off enough - look what I got in the mail today...
DS-love! Cindy you are such a superstar, mwah x
Now I've stirred up a little jealousy, I'll be off; see you on the 'morrow xxx

Friendly Friday...
Yesterday was a good one. Emily, Nicky and I made a date to meet at the Eternal Maker whilst we were at Retreat, and I'd been looking forward to it ever since!
Happy kids full of McStuff...
...friends from near and far...
... lots of fabric...
...and gifts...
I was very restrained...
... at first!
It was lovely getting together with the ladies, and the kids had a brilliant and extra-noisy time too...
Thank you for a fun few hours my friends xxx

Giving...
Not only were there all-inclusive swaps at Retreat, but also other acts of less formal giving and taking.
Krista and I faltered in arranging a private swap last year, but the fact we were going to meet for real, meant I whipped her up a Liberty-linen frame purse...
... and she reciprocated with one of her awesome thread catchers...
... and an amazing Purple Thang!
Before you go all ga-ga at the brown, it's animal print, it is meant to be brown! I love it and need to get back behind my sewing machine so I can use it rather than just looking lovingly at it!
I also made a trio of pincushions for my 2 smashing Brit Bee besties Terri and Susan, who sent me some treasured Heather Ross fussy cuts last month, and another for Di, who has been my States-side go-between for a couple of (spookily) Heather Ross t-shirts; so HR fishies were the only way to go; however caught up in the secrecy of making them, I forgot to take any pictures - doh! This is my one, the ones I made for them were the same... but different!
And unexpectedly, Di made me the most superb Tula Pink/Prince Charming purse...
I think this has holiday boiled-egg-smuggling written all over it! Perfect. I love it!
Generously, and for no reason other than being wonderful friends, I came home with a pretty flower brooch from Catherine and some of my favourite Denyse Schmidt FMF print, zipper, thread and lolly, so far hidden from the kids, from my curve-class buddy Emily...
If you need a big quilt basting, or are in the South-West (UK) and want to use her frame or studio space, Emily is your woman; check out her web page for more information.
Thank you all for my wonderful gifts, there is nothing like handmade gifts from friends xxx
The other gifts I need to mention are the top secret wall hanging that Brit Bee made to commemorate Susan's big 5-0. This was presented to her on Friday night, she wiggled her butt in my face as thanks; she has put it more sweetly than I could here.
And lastly, some feel-good photos, here are Delma and I and the Siblings Together quilt I made in collaboration with Amanda...
And the Siblings Together Bee's first finish...

So many quilts were handed over, the huge pile was quite overwhelming for them and us!
I am almost at an end of my Retreat round up now; tomorrow, it'll be a week since we all got together, so I shall finally show you what I made.
Apologies I have not responded to emails, or commented on blog posts much this week, hopefully I will be able to get myself all caught up soon, the house is now tidy, I will fill the fridge tomorrow morning and then be able to start enjoying the holidays xxx

Yesterday...
Susan has already posted about the wonderful time had by Brit Bee and friends yesterday, but that's no reason why I can't too, nor steal her pictures!
I had a very long day; up before 6am to get the 7.23am train to London, Tube across town, then onwards to Banbury to be met by our lovely hostess.
There was non-stop laughter and chatter the whole time, with added fine dining and fabric thrown into the mix...
It was another super day with so many wonderful people...
Thank you again Susan for letting us descend en masse, and to everyone-else who made such yummy treats, (the train journey spared you my culinary skills), and to one and all, thank you for another bunch of special memories. To those Brit Bees who couldn't make it, you were dearly missed and in out thoughts xxx
Sadly I had to leave relatively early in order to get all the connecting trains home again before I turned into a pumpkin, but I did manage a little hexie action on route though, and hopefully I will be able to show you the end result tomorrow.
I probably spent too much time in the sun today recovering, so I am zonked. I would love to have the energy to give a blow by blow account, but you honestly would be so jealous, it is probably best all round if I just shush now and get an early night!

Please tease me oh yeah, like I teased you!
I think I am right in saying that I am the last one to post my Stitch Tease blocks. So in theory, you could have worked out what I made already!
Just in case you haven't been ticking off all the blocks on the tour, here are the ones I made for my fellow Stitch Teasers...
Firstly, for Katy; you can read about her quilt here...
This was fun, although my raw edge appliqué is a little more raw than I would have liked!
Then Annabella's NYB; you can read about her quilt here...
I loved making this.
For Diane, I really pushed the boat out; you can read about her quilt here...
These were made using Penny's awesome paper-pieced templates; they drove me a little crazy and came at a really hard time for my family and I, but I am so glad I persevered. Hard to photograph, Di's pics are way better!
For Susan I was back on familiar territory; you can read about her quilt here...
I had to sneak in a non-white star in my 'signature' fabric, the Cloud 9 herons, which appear somewhere or other in all the blocks I made.
Danny's block meant I had to think! You can read about her quilt here...
If you are going to make some flying geese, you might as well make hundreds eh!?
Helen's block was another fun one; you can read about her quilt here...
I embraced my inner wonk!
Finally I had to make the last block for Dianne's quilt top and then piece the bugger together! You can read about her quilt here...
All the blocks were slightly different sizes, I worked a little jiggery-pokery to get it all to fit together, and I am really pleased with how it turned out. My block is the one bottom-right - I was so keen to mail this off I didn't hang about for great photos!
So that's my lot! Round 2, a more traditional Bee format kicks off soon, and I can't wait to see what ideas we all come up with.
Apologies again for prolonging the Stitch Teasing, but I had a little giveaway to post about yesterday, I hope you saw!!

A Labour of Love...
In January I sent out a stack of precut HST triangles to my fellow Brit Bees. Greys, oranges and pinks, one of my all time favourite combos.
I requested (another, I know) whopping 24" block, instead of the usual two 12 inchers. I toyed with just asking for random placement, but then decided on the Diamond Ripples block by Lara Finlayson from the Modern Blocks book.
Here's my original block...
Obviously as it was to be a Brit Bee quilt, Diamond Ripples was immediately renamed Diamond Nipples in my head at least, and is now affectionately thought of as my Brit Bee Nips! You can stick to Ripples if you prefer.
I received all my blocks back by the end of February, and since then I have stitched up the mega-siggy block, embroidered over all our names, pieced and then quilted my new favourite quilt.
I am really trying to build up the tension here, but what the heck, here it is...
I bagged a seriously cheap bolt end of Loulouthi whilst all the blocks were out with the ladies, and I couldn't wait to use it on the second side; no backside here, I love both sides equally!
I madly decided that I wanted to contrast with all the pointy angles with some curvy quilting. But FMQing is not my friend, and the only pattern I kept coming back to was the continuous spiral, on a 72" square quilt, with 1.25" spacing...
As it happens, that's 42 full 360 degree turns, plus corners!
NB. If you quilt an anti-clockwise spiral, you will end up with more and more of your quilt passing through the throat of your machine until you reach gridlock. If you lie awake at night knowing there must be a solution, and then finally twig that flipping the quilt and working from the other side will rectify the problem, and an ever decreasing throat-mass, you will be a lot happier. If you are smart like Fiona, you will realise this quite quickly; if you are a bit slow, like me, and are too stubborn to google it, take heed!
Anywho, this quilting was hard, I still ache, but I LOVE IT!!!
I used a variegated 28wt Aurifil thread (4657), it's reddy-pink, orange and yellow, and works perfectly. I almost chickened out and went for a straight grey or orange, but I am so glad I didn't.
Once it was quilted I thought I wanted a solid for the binding, to give it a proper frame, but firstly I didn't have enough of any solid, let alone a perfect one; secondly I didn't want to wait, and thirdly I had the perfect print ready and waiting. Patty Young's Dandelion print in raspberry. I bought a couple of yards ages and ages ago on sale, and the last serendipitous 20" was absolutely perfect as an almost solid in the colour I wanted...
As you know, I was a bit worried that the embroidery of the siggy block was going to end up looking like a dog's dinner after a wash and tumble; so many useful and wise suggestions received, brain not fully in gear, I promptly forgot them all and remembered at the point when I had basted the whole quilt!
But fear not...
The photos are not too clear, the grey block is 16" square, which is why the signatures appear so teeny, but rest assured, all the embroidery is still perfectly legible, and another favourite thing about this quilt.
I cannot thank all my fellow Brit Bee ladies enough for their sterling piecing, and speedy return of blocks, you have enabled me to have the most wonderful quilt...again! Mwah mwah mwah xxx
As you are probably aware, us Brit Bees are an emotional bunch, and not getting this quilt finished quickly, (even though it is on my FAL list), was never an option. I know that as a Bee quilt some people may not think that I have made best use of all the mighty skills we have between us, but the fact that these blocks all merge and flow together is exactly what I love about it. A lot of love and meaning got stitched into this quilt, and it will rank up there as one of my most treasured possessions for always.
I am snuggled up under it right now; the only perk of this damn cold weather!!
If you need me, you know where you can find me, cosy and smiling xxx

Yo Mamas!
I started the day with a mountain of cards, a beautiful linen scarf, and a nice cup of tea...
We met my parents for a lovely lunch at Pizza Express in Sevenoaks and then detoured via one hellofalady to drop off the cushion and a couple of hundred paper hexies.
Anyone who knows Terri will nod sagely when I say a quick hello took about 25 minutes, involved taking photos, losing the dog and checking up on the family; obligatory laughter, many many hugs and plans for the future.
Both purse and cushion were received with wide smiles, so my Mother's Day work is done.
Happy Mother's Day all you mothers out there; keep warm xxx
