Review: No&More Naturally Flavoured Water with No Junk

New no&more is a refreshing range of spring water drinks flavoured with natural extracts. Each bottle is free from sugar, sweeteners or preservatives. I get through lots of water each day but I have a few family members who won't drink water unless it's a flavoured variety or sweetened with squash. Thankfully the no&more range brings a subtle flavour without any of the hidden nasties or sugars.

I tried out three of the no&more flavours; Cucumber & Mint, Raspberry & Blueberry, and Tangerine & Mango.

Cucumber & Mint: I often make a refreshing water with mint leaves and cucumber slices so I couldn't resist adding some to my glass for the photo. However, it really isn't necessary! I tried the water before I added the ingredients and I was surprised by just how flavourful and natural tasting this water was - full of fresh cucumber flavour and with a delicious hint of mint. It's a favourite combination of mine anyway and I was pleased by just how well it works here.

Tangerine & Mango and Raspberry & Blueberry: These were both quite similar, providing a hint of fruity flavour to the water. The flavour combinations were excellent and I could taste all the different fuits even though the flavours are so light. They both very fresh tasting without any of the sugariness of a squash or flavoured water.

Grocery Gems Verdict: no&more water

Review: Cadbury Dairy Milk Puddles Smooth Mint

Cadbury have been on a roll for sometime now with some interesting product launches under the Dairy Milk brand, most recently with the Oat & Crunch and Marvellous Ice Creams. However, I was quite surprised when I first saw the new range of Cadbury Dairy Milk Puddles chocolate bars - the whole design and concept just seemed so unappealing to me. However, I decided I should at least give them a try when I found out that these are the first Cadbury tablet sized chocolate bars that contain a soft centred filling.

I have to be honest, the appearance of this bar does absolutely nothing for me, in fact I find it quite off-putting. The swirly "puddles" look more like bug eyes to me and even Mr. Grocery Gems declared it as looking ridiculous. On a more serious note, this bar is also very small at only 90g, I can't help feeling that this indented "Puddles" design is all about giving us less product for the same price as  a 100g bar.

However, all that is nothing compared to the visual grossness of the mint filling of the Dairy Milk Puddles. Why choose such a yellowy shade of green for a mint filling? It should be white or at least a greener colour. Honestly, take a bite and get a bit of this gooey stuff trailing down and it looks disgusting. Anyway, I know this is all purely about the appearance so I'll move on.

The flavour itself is tasty enough, with the smooth Dairy Milk providing a nice background to the mint filling. The mint flavour is very sweet but it does have a refreshing peppermint edge to it. The texture of the filling was softer than I was expecting, but I would describe it as oozy rather than runny.

Overall, we did enjoy the flavour here (apart from Mr. GG who wouldn't try it) but we are obviously not the target market for the Cadbury Dairy Milk Puddles. I've really liked most of the recent Cadbury new releases but this one just isn't for me.

Review & Discount Code! Beech's Dark Chocolate Mint Creams & Mint Crisps

Thinking about Christmas food always brings to mind mint chocolates, they make a refreshing end to a big meal! The lovely people at Beech's kindly sent me through boxes of their After Dinner Dark Chocolate Mint Creams and Mint Crisps (both suitable for vegans) to review. Once again, Beech's have matched high quality ingredients to classic chocolates, and I was delighted to give them a try.

10% Discount Code:

Beech's have kindly offered my readers a 10% off all purchases for the next three weeks. It's time to stock up for Christmas! Simply enter this promotional code at checkout - BFC04061410

Beech's After Dinner Mint Creams are rich mint fondant centres covered in dark chocolate. I love how Beech's uses all-natural British ingredients in their flavourings, and that is the case with the mint used here - English Mitcham Mint oil, grown in Hampshire.

The result is a delicious after dinner mint. The cream fondant centre and dark chocolate centre have the same quality as the rest of the Beech's creams range (see my review HERE), it's a very smooth combination. The addition of the refreshing mint is just delicious, it works perfectly here. The overall flavour is a zingy and fresh peppermint that is softened by the sugary fondant to a lovely smooth finish.

The Mint Crisps are thin dark chocolate rectangles filled with crunchy little sugar crystals. The mint used here is also English Mitcham Mint oil which gives it a lovely fresh and natural flavour.

These rectangular chocolate are quite large and are speckled on top with lots of the crunchy bits. The Beech's dark chocolate used here is just delicious, with it's 55% minimum cocoa solids. It has a smooth creamy flavour that is sweet rather than bitter. The texture has a light crunch that bursts with refreshing peppermint flavour. These are less sugary than the Mint Creams and have more of a chocolately edge to them - perfect for a more indulgent minty treat.

Quick Review: Cornetto Mint Multipacks

Not exactly a new product but it's good to see the Cornetto Mint back on the supermarket shelves again. Mint is a very popular flavour for ice cream cones and I've often wondered why there was no Cornetto branded mint cone available anymore. In fact the Cornetto Mint cones made a return in order to coincide with the  release of the last so-called  "Cornetto Trilogy" of  films -The World's End.

Mint ice cream cones are my youngest sons favourite type of ice cream. We usually buy the supermarket own brand mint cones, which are generally very good, but he really did enjoy this Cornetto version. The ice cream has a lovely minty taste with a sweet freshness that is not overpowering. It's flavoured with a dark chocolate coating which compliments the mint flavours well. Definitely worth a try for any fan of mint cones.

Review: Müller Light Mysterious Mint Chocolate Smooth Dessert

I first reviewed the Müller light dessert range in May last year. There were three flavour in the initial release; White Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and Toffee. I believe they were joined by this Mint Chocolate version at a later date. Since it's now January there are lots of special offers on products with the words "Light" and "Low Fat", and I picked up the Mysterious Mint Chocolate Smooth dessert for half price (£1.14 for a four pack).

First impressions of this Müller dessert are very good, it has a lovely glossy colour and the consistency is good - not too thin or too thick. The chocolate flavour is very tasty and enough to satisfy a chocolate craving, although it's obviously not very rich tasting, more of a light chocolatey-ness. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the mint flavour was not too overpowering, it's not a refreshing mint taste but more of an added sweetness to the chocolate dessert.

Even though this is promoted as a healthier low fat treat, I'm sure it probably falls foul of the anti-sugar movement. I'm sure many people now realise that low fat does not mean low sugar. This dessert is made with a combination of sugars and sweeteners and contains 12.3g of sugars per pot.

The Canada Shop: Maple Syrup Products & Cadbury Pep!

The Canada Shop recently sent me a lovely selection of Canadian goodies to review. They have a great online shop with a full range of Canadian groceries, chocolates and candies - along with an array of maple syrup products!

I genuinely had no idea that maple syrup could come in such different guises, so I'm very thankful to The Canada Shop for giving me the opportunity to try some of these out. Firstly this gorgeous trio of mini Brien jars featuring; Maple Jelly, Maple Butter and Maple Sugar. These are so adorable! All three are 100% natural and have an intense maple syrup flavour, giving them a dark, rich taste, with a deliciously burnt caramelised edge.

Maple Sugar - This crunchy granulated sugar is great for baking or general cooking, but can also be used in hot drinks and as an ice cream topping.

Maple Butter - This "butter" is actually made of pure maple syrup that has been boiled and then whipped for at least 30 minutes to give it a smooth and creamy texture. There are countless uses for Maple Butter but I'm thinking it would be great as a replacement for straight-up maple syrup on pancakes - then I wouldn't even need to add any real butter.

Maple Jelly - Usually I get confused by the whole jelly/jam issue but this one is definitely more of a soft wobbly jelly (in the English sense). It has a lighter flavour than the previous two maple products, meaning it works well simply on toast or scones.

I was also sent these gorgeous Maple candies, again made by Brien and containing 100% natural ingredients. There are two types of Maple candy available, which are both appropriately maple leaf shaped; the rich amber coloured hard candies, and the larger soft candies.

The hard candies have an intense maple syrup flavour which is obviously sweet, but this is balanced nicely by a dark, slightly bitter edge. The larger pale coloured candies are robust at first but quickly give way to a crumbly melt in the mouth texture. I loved the appearance of both of these candies, and their deliciously different flavour.

I was also sent these two Canadian chocolates, both of which are new to me; The Cadbury Pep, and the Hershey's Cherry Blossom (both £0.95p).

The Cadbury Pep is a large circular chocolate disc with a milk chocolate coating and a peppermint cream filling. The appearance reminded me of a massive After Eight! I cut this one up to share it around and I have to say it disappeared in seconds - everyone enjoyed it immensely. The filling here is more solid than an After Eight, and less sticky, but not as hard as a Fry's Mint Cream. The mint layer is very sweet but has a creaminess to the minty flavour that makes it very moreish.

I'll be reviewing the Cherry Blossom in a separate post soon - it's an epic combination of cherry, coconut & roasted peanuts so be sure to watch this space!

Check out The Canada Shop full selection here: http://www.thecanadashop.co.uk/

Next on my wishlist is the Cinnamon Spread - I'd love to hear from anyone who's tried it!

Review: Ritter Sport Pfefferminz (Peppermint)

It's fair to say that I haven't yet encountered a Ritter Sport chocolate bar that I didn't like, so I was very pleased to receive this Pfefferminz Ritter Sport from the fab folks at Monster Sweets. I'm always keen to try the latest winter editions from Ritter Sport (especially the new Caramel Orange!) but in the meantime there are lots of bars from their standard range that I've never tried, including this Peppermint variety.

As soon as I opened the packaging I could smell the fresh scent of the minty chocolate. It's immediately mouth watering! I had expected this bar to have a soft fondant type filling, similar to that within an After Eight mint, but actually the filling is quite solid, more like a Fry's Cream.

The outer dark chocolate is lovely and sweet, it's not bitter or tasteless like plain chocolate can sometimes be, and it's rich cocoa flavour manages to hold it's own against the minty goodness within. The filling itself is completely delicious, it has a smooth flavour that starts off delicately minty and builds in intensity, but never becomes too overpowering. I was genuinely surprised by just how much I wanted to eat in one sitting! The gentle and slightly creamy minty flavour makes this a highly enjoyable mint and dark chocolate combination.

Japanese Snacks from Oyatsu Cafe - Megapost

Last week I posted a review of lots of yummy Japanese sugary treats. Well today I'm focusing on the more savoury snacks (with a few sweets included too!). They're all from Oyatsu Cafe, a fantastic Japanese online store that stocks all kinds of goodies - click on the product title under each photo for direct links and more product information.

Dondon Yaki

This DondonYaki snack is based on a traditional type of Japanese street food of the same name that is especially popular around festival times - certainly explains the cute festival scene on the packaging. The snack itself is a kind of fried cracker, with a lovely light but still crunchy texture. The flavour is absolutely delicious - an addictive meaty mix with a salty edge. Extremely tasty and one that everyone wanted more of!

Calbee Jagarico

I've heard of the Calbee brand and have always wanted to try some of their snacks, so I was delighted to find this Calbee potato sticks included in my parcel.

These are described as The Crunchiest Potato Stick Ever... and they're not wrong. These are so super crunchy, it's almost as if they are made up of compacted potato crisps all rolled together into a stick shape. The flavour is so delicious too, just like a buttery baked potato! Seriously good and utterly moreish too - these did not last long once opened. I'll definitely be stocking up on these in the future.

Ninja Meshi - Ume Flavour

These are technically sweets but the flavour is more savoury to me so I decided to include them here. The packaging is so odd I really had no idea what to expect from the product inside. It seems to feature a ninja wearing a suit with lots of flowers around them. If you have any ideas what this is about then please leave a comment below!

The Ninja Meshi are slightly soft in texture, a bit like a gummy sweet. The flavour "Ume" is literally a type of sour plum but in snacks like this it usually denotes a pickled salty taste. I have to say the flavour was not for me AT ALL and I wasn't able to finish one - I found it quite horrible. Imagine super salty, sour and FISHY all at the same time. I defy anyone to be able to stomach these for more than a few seconds, let alone actually finish a whole one.

Glico Kocochi Matcha Chewing Gum

And just to end on something a bit sweeter. These sugar-free Kocochi are a Limited Edition for 2013 and the first time a matcha flavoured chewing gum has been released.

The flavour is a refreshing combination of mint and matcha, giving a lovely twist on a traditional gum. I've long enjoyed peppermint tea with a bit of added matcha powder, a "minty matcha" if you will, as the flavours work together very well, and it's just as tasty and invigorating in this gum version. A great choice for any matcha green tea fan.

Discount Code: Don't forget you can use the code GROCERYGEMS for 15% off any Oyatsu Cafe order! More details here: http://grocerygems.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/oyatsu-cafe-discount-code.html

Mint M&M's Review

I love M&M's from the US, they have such brilliant flavours compared to the ones available in the UK. Even on a recent trip to the M&M World store in Leicester Square, London (the largest candy store in the world), I was disappointed to find that there were only the basic three flavours of M&M's available - milk chocolate, peanut and crispy! Thankfully the more exotic American flavours are available from import shops online. I recently placed an order with the fantastic Monster Sweets who kindly sent me these Mint M&M's. I've reviewed these briefly once before in the very early days of my blog, as part of a M&M's Mega Post HERE (apologies for the terrible photos!).

This is mainly an excuse to post better photos, because my thoughts on the flavour are still the same! I love the fact that these Mint M&M's are all various shades of green, it all looks so pretty. The flavour is exactly what you would want from a mint M&M - they're very sweet and minty but with a refreshing kick. The chocolate centre is described as a "dark chocolate" but it doesn't have the intense flavour of a dark chocolate. If you're a fan of mint chocolate then you need to try these!

Monster Sweets kindly sent me this product for an honest review but all views expressed are my own.

We Are Tea Review

We Are Tea is an independent tea retailer that was established in 2007 with a tea shop near St Paul's Cathedral in London. All their teas are ethically sourced and hand packed in the UK. These award winning teas are available to buy in Whole Foods Market, Harrods, selected Tesco stores and online. They offer a complete range of blends and flavours, with a variety for every type of tea lover - from black and green teas, to floral and herbal infusions. We Are Tea very kindly sent me a sample of their premium flavours to review: Ceylon with Vanilla, Earl Grey Supreme, Chamomile Flowers, Super Berry, Serenitea (love that name!) and Moroccan Mint.

The We Are Tea range is gorgeously presented - I like the sleek and modern design of the tea boxes. The tea bags themselves have the distinctive look of a gourmet tea, and are filled with large fragrant leaves. This gives each individual tea bag it's own unique and inviting scent.

Chamomile Flowers
I enjoyed trying out all the different flavours:

Ceylon with Vanilla: I couldn't wait to try this one, as my sweet tooth loves the idea of a vanilla infused tea. It didn't disappoint with the fresh tea flavour dominating at first and the vanilla adding a sweet finishing touch. A perfect calorie free treat!

Earl Grey Supreme: A winner of two gold stars at the Great Taste Awards, the Earl Grey Supreme uses only the finest whole leaf black tea and is scented with oil of bergamot. The flavour has a zesty citrus edge to it - making this a fresh and authentic Earl Grey.

Chamomile Flowers: Chamomile tea is known for it's soothing, relaxing properties and this was no exception. The teabag is full of little flower buds that look adorable! I'm not the greatest fan of chamomile tea but this one is pleasantly fragrant with a delicate taste. A lovely tea that's ideal as an evening drink.

Super Berry: This tea is part of the We Are Tea infusion range and is a naturally caffeine free fruit infusion. I loved the dark reddish colour of the tea and the flavour was just as deliciously fruity as I was expecting - so summery and refreshing. We Are Tea also suggest using the Super Berry to make a delicious iced tea.

Moroccan Mint: My husband is a big fan of mint teas, especially the Tea Pigs Peppermint Leaves (reviewed here) so I couldn't wait to see what he would think of this Moroccan Mint which is made using green tea and peppermint leaf. The Moroccan Mint has a refreshing flavour that is completely energising and cleansing. It's easy to see why this was also a winner of two gold stars at the Great Taste Awards.

Serenitea: Isn't this a lovely name for a tea? I feel relaxed already! It's a blend of green tea and some intriguing ingredients such as lime blossom tree and apple pieces. The flavour is extremely unique and delicate - combining a fragrant green tea with subtle citrusy notes. It's such a delicious flavour that I can imagine drinking this at any time of day as a replacement for my usual jasmine green tea.

Serenitea
Overall this is fantastic range of tea which I'm so pleased to have been introduced to. The Ceylon with Vanilla has replaced the Waitrose Rooibos & Vanilla, as my favourite vanilla infused tea and I will definitely be buying it, and the Serenitea, in the future - along with the Moroccan Mint for the hubby!

There are also lots of other varieties in the We Are Tea range including this awesome sounding green tea: Gunpowder Tea. As a fan of green tea I have to track that one down! Prices start from £3.99 and the teas are available in different formats - teabags or loose leaf in packets or tins.

We are Tea very kindly sent me some samples to review but all opinions expressed are my own.

New Wrigley's Extra White Bubblemint

Bubblemint? Bubblemint? Oh yes, you read that right. Wrigley's have come up with quite the flavour combination here; classic bubblegum and fresh mint. It's a new one to me, and as someone who loves the flavour of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum but values her teeth too much to chew it, I was eager to give this gum a try. Wrigley's Extra is known as being a sugar free gum and that doesn't change here with this Bubblemint flavour.

But what would a hybrid of fruity bubblegum and mint actually taste like? At first there is a burst of traditional bubblegum Juicy Fruit type flavour, so far so good, but then it's followed by a quick burst of refreshing mint. Just as my taste buds were getting used to the strange combination, the mint flavour subsided and only the fruity bubblegum flavour was left. The result is very successful - a classic bubblegum but with a fresher edge to it. It's just a shame that they are not bright pink in colour like a real bubblegum!

Grocery Gems: Wrigley's Extra White Bubblemint

Cadbury Mini Rolls Ice Cream Flavours - Mint Choc & Raspberry Ripple

It seems like only a few days ago I was writing about ice cream inspired chocolates and now here we have ice cream inspired chocolate CAKES. These new Cadbury Mini Rolls come in two varieties; Raspberry Ripple and Mint Choc. They are not particularly exciting flavours on their own, but the unique factor is that the Mini Rolls can be frozen to create a "summer treat"!

The individual packaging on each Mini Roll is really fun and bright. The Mini Rolls are all pictured with sunglasses on, which suddenly gives them a "personality", and are all enjoying the sun in one way or another!

The instructions on the pack suggest freezing the Mini Rolls for at least two hours. I kept mine in the freezer for around that time (slightly longer) and they were perfect - frozen but not too rock hard. The cake part was obviously very cold, but it was surprisingly still quite soft and very easy to eat. The inner creme layer was more frozen and did indeed taste like a delicious ice cream!

The Mint Choc flavour is a chocolate sponge, covered in Cadbury chocolate, with a swirled mint flavoured cream filling. I'm not going to wax lyrical about the tastes and flavours here. The mint is sweet and refreshing but overall this is a very simple combination of flavours that works perfectly as a sweet treat. I also tried one of these that was unfrozen, purely for the interests of this review of course (haha!) and I have to admit I much preferred it frozen.

The Raspberry Ripple is a golden sponge, covered in Cadbury chocolate, with a raspberry flavour creme filling. The flavour itself is very similar to a standard Mini Roll with jam filling... except with raspberry instead of strawberry. Not very exciting, however, once frozen it becomes more like a mini version of an Arctic Roll! The Raspberry flavour in the middle is perfectly suited to the ice cream theme and tastes delicious here.

I've never really been a fan of Cadbury Mini Rolls but since trying them frozen I will definitely be buying them again in the future. Pure genius on Cadbury's part in my opinion. I doubt I would have even bought these if they were simply new mint and raspberry flavours. Too boring. But by making these "ice cream inspired" they are suddenly a much more interesting prospect!

Grocery Gems Verdict: Cadbury Mini Rolls Mint Choc & Raspberry Ripple:

Options Hot Chocolate: Limited Edition Jazzy Ginger & More

I recently reviewed Cadbury's new Wispa Hot Chocolate which has completely rekindled my interest in hot chocolate as an evening drink. As soon as Becca from The Sparkling Recoverer recommended the Options range and the Wicked White hot chocolate I knew I had to give it a try. Thank you Becca! When I went to have a look instore, I was surprised by just how many flavours there are including this Limited Edition Jazzy Ginger. I don't think I have ever tried a ginger hot chocolate before and I absolutely loved it. The ginger flavour is sweet rather than being too spicy, with a lovely warmth that builds as you drink. It's a delicious combination that works well with the chocolate.

The Wicked White chocolate drink is just as Becca described. It's very creamy (especially if you make it with milk or add a splash of milk) and has a smooth vanilla flavour. It really does taste of white chocolate and is great for anyone who likes sweet milky drinks.

I hadn't intended to buy so many varieties but there was no way I was leaving this Caribbean Coconut flavour behind on the shelf! I had no idea this even existed. Imagine getting a chocolate coconut treat for only 38 calories - heaven. I made this one with just water and it was still quite frothy and thick. If you've read this blog before you won't be surprised that I loved this.

Yes I did buy the Mint Madness too! At the time of buying (from Sainsbury's) these sachets were on a 7 for £1.50 deal, which is a fab price. I don't want sound repetitive but I really enjoyed the Mint Madness too - basically I liked all of them! It has just the right amount of mint flavour for the chocolate. I've also seen online that they also do a banana hot chocolate called Go Bananas, which I simply MUST find!

The chocolate flavour in all these drinks is very satisfying. It's described as Belgian Choc on the front, which doesn't really mean much, but it's a perfectly decent chocolate flavour. It's not as indulgent as the Wispa hot chocolate but it's much nicer than I was expecting for the calories. Of course, as these are low calories drinks, they all contain artificial sweeteners, but I didn't find they had a dominant aftertaste that you sometimes get with these kinds of drinks. They're great for anyone who is trying to reduce their calories, or reduce their sugar intake, but still enjoy a chocolate treat.

Grocery Gems Verdict: Options Hot Chocolate

Overall my favourite from the range was the Caribbean Coconut which I will definitely be buying again.

Cadbury Mint Chocolate Mousse Review

Here's another bubbly Cadbury review today, to follow on from the excitement of the new bubbly Cadbury Wispa Hot Chocolate. I don't often buy chocolate mousse, but seeing as both my children love mint chocolate I thought this new Cadbury Mint Chocolate Mousse would make a nice weekend treat for them.

The Cadbury Mint Chocolate Mousse comes in a multipack of four small pots, each containing 90 calories - perfect for a light chocolatey snack. The small pots make my teaspoon look massive!

The mousse had a lovely fluffy texture, it was very airy and bubbly, with a smooth melt. The chocolate flavour is quite light and is reminiscent of Dairy Milk chocolate, but even sweeter. The mint itself is quite subtle, much lighter than I was expecting, which may disappoint some mint fans. However, it was an enjoyable level of mintiness for my kids. Overall these are a sweet little chocolate treat; they're not very filling, but they are sweet enough to satisfying a chocolate craving.
