Review: Sunbites Honey Glazed Barbecue and Tomato & Mozzarella new flavours

A quick review of the new flavours from the Walkers Sunbites Muligrain Crispy Snacks range - the Tomato & Mozzarella and Honey Glazed Barbecue flavours.

Sunbites Honey Glazed Barbecue: These were much sweeter than I was expecting with a strong honey taste that gives way to a more classic barbecue sauce flavour. I wasn't too keen on these at first as I'm not keen on honey flavoured products (although I do like honey itself). However, I have to give these snacks a higher rating based on my eldest sons reaction - he really loved them. He's not a big fan of crisps in general and hardly ever eats them, but he's asked me to buy more of this flavour.

Sunbites Sun Dried Tomato & Mozzarella: I enjoyed the flavour here which combines a creamy cheese with a herby tomato flavour. It didn't particularly taste like sun dried tomatoes but the combination still reminded me of pizza flavoured snacks I've had in the past and especially suited the wholegrain base of the Sunbites.

Grocery Gems Review: Walkers Sunbites

RATING: Barbecue - 8 out of 10 (for kids!), Tomato & Mozzarella - 7 out of 10.
Buy it again?: Yes.
Purchased: Ocado - but I've also spotted the multipacks in Poundland.
Price: £1.00p (for multipack of 6)

Review Megapost: Walkers Crisps Sarnie Flavours

Last summer Walkers released six flavours in their 'Bring it Back' Campaign. It was fun trying out all the different flavours and picking a favourite. This year, Walkers have another impressive array of flavours in their new 'Sarnie Flavours' range.

The six new flavours are all based on classic British sandwich fillings, all featuring different sauces from the likes of Heinz, HP and Lea & Perrins. The flavours are: Ham & Mustard, Roast Chicken & Mayonnaise, Cheese Cucumber & Salad Cream, Sausage & Brown Sauce, Bacon & Tomato Ketchup and a Cheese Toastie & Worcester Sauce. I bought individual packs in Co-Op on a 2 for £1.00p deal (for larger bags).

Walkers Crisps Ham & Mustard: This is my youngest sons favourite sandwich filling and I was pleased to find that these crisps do a good job of recreating the flavour of a ham and mustard sandwich. The mustard especially comes through initially without too much heat but soon evolves into a meaty ham flavour. It's a decent enough pairing, not too exciting, but the classic flavour combo works well enough here. Rating: 7 out of 10.

Walkers Crisps Bacon & Tomato Ketchup: This is another classic sandwich pairing (although I know people in other parts of the country might disagree about ketchup with bacon!) and one that we enjoy once in awhile. The crisps however, weren't really as tasty as I was expecting. The tomato ketchup flavouring is far too dominant with a sickly sweet and tangy flavour that didn't work well with the background smokey bacon crisps. They're not terrible but I was just expecting to like these more than I did. Rating: 5 out of 10.

Walkers Crisps Roast Chicken & Mayonnaise: These are quite similar to regular Walkers Roast Chicken crisps but with a much creamier edge from the mayonnaise flavouring. I didn't particularly like the creamy flavour, it's far too milky for my tastes. Overall I prefer the original Walkers flavour, with it's stronger chicken flavour, to this new sarnie inspired one. Rating: 5 out of 10.

Walkers Crisps Cheese, Cucumber & Salad Cream: I'm one of those people that does actually like salad cream and I must admit that I regularly add it to sandwiches and salads. I thought these crisps did a great job of capturing the sweet and tangy Heinz Salad Cream flavour, it's pretty much spot on. However, this flavour was again ruined for me by the creamy nature of the background flavours. Instead of a strong cheese flavour, such as cheddar, the cheese flavouring used here is very milky and almost sour cream tasting. I couldn't detect any cucumber flavour at all. Rating: 6 out of 10.

Walkers Cheese Toastie & Worcester Sauce: This is one of the more interesting flavours in this range. The Worcester Sauce flavour is instantly recognisable and provides a lovely tangy edge to the flavour. The cheese flavour is also nicely done and I can almost taste the melted cheese element. Rating: 7 out of 10.

Walkers Crisps Sausage & Brown Sauce: I have to admit that I don't often buy brown sauce or use it on sandwiches. Sausage sandwiches have always involved tomato ketchup around here. However, I may change that from now on because these crisps are delicious and my clear favourite of the lot. The tangy brown sauce has a lovely rich flavour that is followed by a very tasty and meaty sausage. Funnily enough this is also the only flavour that doesn't contain milk and is suitable for vegans. Rating: 8 out of 10.

Overall, it's not been my favourite range from Walkers as there are quite a few flavours that I didn't like at all. However, as always I'm impressed by Walkers creativity in bringing out so many limited edition flavours and I look forward to what they come up with next.

Obviously these reviews are all down to personal taste so do let me know if you agree/disagree and which Walkers Sarnie flavour you enjoyed the most!

Review: Walkers Max Jerk Chicken Crisps

A quick review of this new(ish) Jerk Chicken flavour from Walkers Max which came out earlier this summer. I was pleased to see a new flavour in the Walkers Max range as I really enjoyed the previous new release, the Walkers Max Cheeseburger flavour that came out in January.

The new Walkers Max Jerk Chicken flavour features the same large ridged crisps as the rest of the Walkers Max range. Each crisp has a lovely crunchy texture and is loaded with flavour. The Jerk Chicken flavouring here is quite sweet, the base flavour reminds me of Walkers Tomato Ketchup flavour crisps. However, this is joined by a punchier main flavour that provides a kick of spice and a little extra heat. I really enjoyed the combination of sweet and spicy flavours at work here and I would definitely buy this flavour again.

Review: Walkers Max Cheeseburger Flavour Crisps

I've mentioned before on this blog that I have a peculiar obsession with cheeseburger flavoured crisps. It's such an unusual flavour for crisps and if I see a packet then I always have to buy it. I'm pretty sure this obsession started with the release of the Walkers American Cheeseburger flavour to coincide with the 2010 World Cup (one of my favourite crisp campaigns ever). Anyway, I was ridiculously excited to see a new Cheeseburger flavour from Walkers, this time under their Max Deep Ridged Taste range.

The crisps are thick cut (although not too thick) with a ridged appearance. There is plenty of visible seasoning on each crisp. The flavour here is just as I remembered, and just as delicious, with a combination of cheese, meat and pickles being the dominant flavours. The overall taste is just like cheeseburgers in crisp form, and the seasoning is just spot on. I especially love the sweet gherkin flavour that comes through at the end. I really hope these are here to stay and are not a limited edition!

I found the Walkers Max Cheeseburger flavour in a local newsagents where they had a large new display for them. The bags are 50g so they're larger than the usual packet of Walkers but I hope they will be available in multipacks with smaller bags soon. There is also a Flame Grilled Steak flavour and a Paprika flavour available in the Walkers Max range. If you've tried these then let us know what you thought in the comments below!

And the winning Walkers Bring It Back Flavour is...

Back in September I reviewed all five retro flavours in the Walkers Bring It Back flavour campaign. Crisp fans had the chance to vote to bring back their favourite classic flavour from a choice of; Toasted Cheese, Beef & Onion, Cheese & Chive, Lamb & Mint, and Barbecue. Today Walkers announced that the winning flavour that will now be back on the shelves is - BEEF & ONION!

I'm really pleased with the result as the Beef & Onion was also my favourite flavour and received the highest score in my review with a 9 out of 10. Funnily enough my second highest rating, an 8 out of 10 for the Cheese & Chive, also came second in the vote!

Here's the full announcement from Walkers:

BEEF & ONION HERE TO STAY!

After months of voting, Beef & Onion is crowned the winner of Walkers’ Bring it Back campaign

The nation has today spoken with the winner of Walkers Bring it Back competition being unveiled after a staggering 1.3 million votes were tallied from across the UK. Beef & Onion proved the most popular nostalgic flavour among crisp lovers, receiving almost 480,000 votes.

The competition which launched back in September, saw Walkers bring back five classic flavours and asked the nation to vote for their favourite via Twitter, Facebook and the Walkers website.

The second most popular flavour was Cheese & Chive, followed by Lamb & Mint, Toasted Cheese and Barbecue. As the winner, Beef & Onion will now remain on shelves alongside the newly reintroduced Marmite flavour.

Competition voting data also highlighted the incredible passion of crisp fans, with some voting thousands of times for a chance to keep their preferred flavour on shelves.

Gary Lineker, whom this years mark his 20th anniversary working with Walkers, said: “I’m not surprised we had such a huge response from Walkers crisps fans. A day doesn’t go by when I’m not asked by someone to bring back a flavour from the past. Now it seems, for Beef & Onion fans, their wish has come true!”

Commenting on the success of the competition, Walkers’ Marketing Director Rachel Holmes says: “The success of this campaign has absolutely exceeded all expectations. We’re delighted to have Beef & Onion back on shelves and for all the other Bring it Back flavours – be sure to hit the stores quick for those last few packs before they’re all gone!”

Walkers' Beef & Onion flavour will available to buy in stores nationwide from 23rd of November in a six pack single format.

Retro Baking & Walker's Bring It Back Campaign!

If you're watching the Great British Bake Off final tonight then I hope you've got some cakes or sweet treats in! Walker's recently invited me to take part in sharing a retro baking recipe. It's to celebrate their Bring It Back campaign which relaunched five retro crisp flavours for a limited time. I've reviewed all of the flavours HERE.

When I saw the words 'retro baking' I immediately thought of making either a Black Forest Gateau or a Pineapple Upside Down Cake. In the end I decided to make a Pineapple Upside Cake as I have vivid memories of loving this cake as a child. In fact I'm pretty sure I had it as my birthday cake for a few years in a row! And I realised that my kids have never tried one, and bonus, it's such an easy recipe that they could get involved with making it too.

Of course I had to add a little twist to the original so this is a Pineapple & Coconut Upside Down Cake!

Pineapple & Coconut Upside Down Cake

Ingredients

8 pineapple rings
1-2 tbsp golden syrup
150g soft butter/margarine
150g caster sugar
150g self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
3 eggs
8 glace cherries
25g dessicated coconut (plus more for decorating).

METHOD

  • Grease a large tin.
  • Arrange pineapple rings in a circular pattern in the tin.
  • Place a glace cherry or other small fruit in centre of each pineapple ring (I used a mix of glace. cherries and mango pieces).
  • Drizzle golden syrup over the pineapple rings.
  • In a large bowl, mix butter, sugar and eggs.
  • Sift in the flour and mix until creamy.
  • Pour cake mixture over pineapples and smooth down.
  • Bake in oven for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
  • Once cooled drizzle a little more golden syrup on top (I used a brush to dab some on each pineapple ring).
  • Sprinkle with dessicated coconut to decorate.

It's quite easy to make and the result is a fruity and super sweet cake that was a winner with the family!

Thanks to Walkers for inviting me to bake a retro recipe. Don't forget you can still vote in the Walkers Bring It Back Campaign until 1st November 2015 with a chance to win £100,000! Enter by voting via the Walker website at www.walkers.co.uk or on Facebook and Twitter using the flavour hashtags:

Review: Walkers Bring It Back Flavours Beef & Onion and Marmite

A quick review for the last few flavours in the Walkers Bring It Back flavours campaign - Beef & Onion and Marmite. Even though the Marmite flavour seems to be part of this revival campaign, in terms of featuring voting info on the packaging, it's not actually included in the vote itself. The Marmite flavour is already back permanently (well for now at least), but since I've never tried this flavour before I decided to review it too. The flavours you can actually vote for are: Toasted Cheese, Lamb & Mint, Cheese & Chive, Barbecue or Beef & Onion.

Walkers Beef & Onion: These are really good! The crisps are meaty with a rich and distinctive beef flavour. The onion flavour also comes through strongly with each bite, adding a robust and slightly sweet edge. It's a great combination and one that is more enjoyable than standard Roast Beef flavoured crisps. In fact they've risen straight to the top of my Bring Me Back crisps ranking - I'll definitely be voting to bring back the Beef & Onion!

Walkers Marmite: As I've already mentioned, Walkers have already chosen to bring back the Marmite flavour for now, with the public voting for the second retro flavour they want to see return. I'm not keen on Marmite at all but I found these crisps surprisingly tasty. The initial taste is quite salty and beefy, but this is joined by tangy edge that lifts the whole flavour. I can certainly see why Walkers have decided to bring this flavour back and I'm sure I will be tempted to buy them again.

Review: Walkers Bring It Back Flavours: Lamb & Mint and Toasted Cheese

Carrying on from my previous post regarding the new Walkers Bring It Back flavours campaign, I also bought the Lamb & Mint and Toasted Cheese flavoured crisps to review.

Walkers Toasted Cheese: According to the Walkers website this flavour was popular in the 1980's 'for a whole decade'. Initially I thought it seemed familiar to me but I think I must be remembering the more recent Walkers Cheesy Beans on Toast which is quite different. The flavour itself is very good, it has a mild cheddar type cheese flavour with a buttery edge which is free of any onion of chive influence. It's actually really nice to just have a plain cheese flavoured crisp. The 'toasted' part of the flavour, does not come through very strongly but it is present in the additional buttery flavour. I'm not sure if these are enough to win the overall Walkers campaign, but they're still a very tasty crisp nonetheless.

Grocery Gems Review: Walkers Bring it Back - Toasted Cheese

RATING: 7 out of 10.

Buy them again?: Yes.
Nutrition: 169 calories per pack.
Vegetarian: Suitable for vegetarians.
Purchased: Newsagent.

Price: 2 packs for £1.00p (32.5g each).

Walkers Lamb & Mint: I'm not a fan of lamb at all but these are the only flavour from this campaign that I actually remember from their first release. I know I've definitely had these before in the past (and not liked them). The flavour is how I remember it - it's just far too lamby and meaty for me. I think I would prefer these if the lamb flavour gave way to a minty finish, but unfortunately it's the other way around; an initial burst of mint and then a strong, gamey lamb flavour that is just unpleasant. This is obviously because I don't like lamb - my husband on the other hand thought the flavour was fine. Even if I don't like this flavour, the impressive thing about the Lamb & Mint is that it tastes exactly as it should from the name, which isn't the case with all the flavours in this range.

Grocery Gems Review: Walkers Bring it Back - Lamb & Mint

RATING: 6 out of 10 (would be higher for any lamb fans).

Buy them again?: No.

Review: Walkers Bring It Back Flavours - Barbecue and Cheese & Chive

Walkers have revived five retro flavours and are asking fans to vote for which favourite flavour they'd like to see return. There are five flavours from the Walkers back catalogue to try out and vote for - Cheese & Chive, Barbecue, Lamb & Mint, Toasted Cheese, and Beef & Onion. I found all the flavours in my local newsagent and since I don't remember most of them from their original releases (I think some are much more recent than others), I decided to give them a try, starting with Cheese & Chive and Barbecue.

Walkers Cheese & Chive: According to the Walkers website this flavour was around in the 1990's, and a few of my family members say they remember this one. I really enjoyed this flavour, so much so that it might be the one that ultimately gets my vote. The flavour is deliciously cheesey and salty, with visible flecks of chives that add a herby and slightly sweet flavour. The overall combination is really well balanced between the cheese and chive, creating a flavour that is not as strong or overpowering as classic Cheese & Onion and without the creaminess of Sour Cream & Chive crisps. I actually think the Cheese & Chive works better than those more traditional flavours but perhaps it's just the novelty value of them winning me over!

Grocery Gems Review: Walkers Bring it Back - Cheese & Chive

Buy them again?: Yes.
Nutrition: 168 calories per pack.

Walkers Barbecue: To be honest I didn't even realise that this flavours wasn't already a permanent Walkers vareiety. It just seems like one of those flavours that has always existed. Perhaps it's because Walkers describe this flavour as a "recent star". I'm not sure how recent but if anyone knows then please leave a comment below. Anyway the flavour here is spot on for recreating the taste of a smokey barbecue sauce with a little dash of sweetness. I have to admit to a fondness for ketchup flavoured crisps and this Barbecue flavour appeals to me in a similar sweet and salty way. However, I don't think I would vote for this flavour overall as it doesn't seem very unique or different.

Review: Walkers MixUps - Snacks Mix, Crisps Mix & Popcorn

By now you've probably seen the new Walkers MixUps range on TV adverts and instore. It's a new snacking range which brings together different family favourites together in one sharing bag. There are three mix varieties available - Snacks Mix, Crisps Mix and a Popcorn Mix.

Walkers MixUps Snacks Mix: There are two flavours in the Snacks Mix range; Spicy Mix or Cheese Mix. Each bag has four different classic Walkers snacks; Doritos, Monster Munch, French Fries, and Wotsits. Interestingly, both the Walkers MixUps Snacks Mix flavours contain new flavours for some of these snacks too.

Spicy Snacks Mix; This is a mix of Doritos Chilli Heatwave, Monster Munch Flamin' Hot, Wotsits Flamin' Hot and French Fries Worcester Sauce. The Wotsits Flamin' Hot are usually released around Halloween as Zombie Finger but I don't think I've heard of the French Fries Worcester Sauce flavour before. The tangy and lightly spicy flavour is similar across all of the different snacks, with the Doritos packing most of the punch and the French Fries being the least flavoured.

Cheese Snacks Mix: The Cheese Mix contains Doritos Tangy Cheese, Wotsits Really Cheesy, French Fries Cheese & Onion and Monster Munch Cheese Flavour. Like the Spicy Snacks Mix, this sharing bag has a great selection of crunchy and crispy textures. The cheese flavour is quite strong in the Doritos and Wotsits but thankfully milder in the French Fries and Monster Munch, giving a nice balance to the overall flavour. My kids had been asking to try these for a while and they really did enjoy the mix of snacks in the bag. The Cheese Monster Munch are very tasty and it would be interesting to see these released as a flavour on their own too.

Walkers MixUps Crisps Mix: I'm glad that Walkers also released a range of classic crisps under their MixUPs brand. These sharing bags contain two different flavours in one bag. There are two varieties available: Cheese & Bacon and Cheese & Worchester Sauce.

MixUps Cheese & Bacon: There is a visible difference between the different cheese and bacon crisps, with the bacon crisps having a much darker seasoning. These are very similar to the Walkers Cheddar Cheese & Bacon flavoured crisps, but in this Crisps Mix there are individual bursts of cheese and bacon flavour which then combine to create a tasty snack.

MixUps Cheese & Worcester Sauce: I rarely buy Walkers Worcester Sauce flavoured crisps but surprisingly I loved them in this cheese mix. The flavours of cheese and Worcester Sauce are obviously a classic pairing (we always add a splash of Worcester sauce to cheese toasties) and the overall cheesy and tangy flavours combined in these crisps is just delicious.

MixUps Popcorn Mix Sweet & Salty: This was my favourite product overall and I know it will become a firm favourite for any family movie nights. The popcorn has a great texture with a light and fluffy crunch. The flavour is the perfect combination of sweet popcorn and saltier pieces. I've tried quite a few Sweet & Salty popcorn's that are already available but the large bag here makes this one ideal for sharing and for families.

Overall, we all really enjoyed this new Walkers MixUps range and there really is something for everyone. My top picks are the MixUps Cheese Snacks Mix, MixUps Cheese & Worcester Sauce Crisps Mix and the Popcorn MixUps.

New Walkers Sunbites Crispy Crackers, Pitta Bakes and Crackers & Dip

Sunbites have launched some exciting new additions to their range of multigrain snacks; Crispy Crackers, Pitta Bakes, and Crackers & Dip. The oven baked Crispy Crackers and Pitta Bakes are available in several foodie inspired varieties using all natural flavours and are free from MSG and artificial colours. I love finding alternatives to regular crisps so I was excited to receive a selection of these snacks to review.

The new Sunbites Pitta Bakes, are available in several flavours: Vintage Cheddar and Caramelised Onion, Roasted Red Pepper and Chilli and Oven Roasted Onion and Rosemary. The Sunbites Crispy Crackers are available in four flavours; Cream Cheese and Chive, Sun Ripened Sweet Chilli, Oven Roasted Onion and Rosemary, and Lightly Salted.

Sunbites Pitta Bakes: I was sent the Oven Roasted Onion & Rosemary flavour to review. These oven baked pitta snacks have a lovely crunchy texture, much firmer than regular crisps, with a generous amount of seasoning. They have the expected flavours of onion and rosemary but also delicious notes of garlic and cheese coming through strongly too. These are great for dipping, especially with some houmous.

Sunbites Crispy Crackers: The Sunripened Sweet Chilli flavour have an unusual oval shape and a surprisingly light and crunchy texture. I really enjoyed the flavour of these, they're quite sweet with a tomato flavour (and looking at the ingredients there is tomato in these) and a chilli kick at the end. They're almost like a chilli ketchup flavour (that should be a suggestion in the next Walkers choose a flavour compeition!) and are very moreish.

Sunbites Crackers & Dip: This is interesting new product; each box contains a pack of Sunbites Crackers and also a large pot of either a sweet onion or salsa dip. There are two flavours available; Caramelised Red Onion Chutney with Lightly Salted Crackers, and Sundried Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper Salsa with Lightly Salted Crackers.

I received the Lightly Salted Crackers with Caramelised Red Onion Chutney, which is a deliciously sweet and tangy dip. I was surprised by how big the pot of dip is - definitely enough for several servings (it was also delicious with the Sunbites Pitta Bakes!). I had this at home so I just popped the rest in the fridge to save for later. The whole thing is very tasty and the combination of the multigrain, slightly salty, crackers with the caramelised onion dip is an ideal snacking pairing.

Overall, we've really enjoyed all varieties we tried from the new Sunbites range. I would definitely purchase the Pitta Bakes and Crispy Crackers in the future as a flavourful alternative to crisps. My kids are already fans of the original Sunbites Multigrain Snacks and I'm sure the new Pitta Bakes and Crispy Crackers will be popular as savoury treats for their lunch boxes.

Grocery Gems: Top 10 Reviews of 2014

Following on from my Best of 2014 list yesterday, here's a look at the readers favourites - the Top Ten most read reviews of the year on Grocery Gems. It's always a surprise to see which reviews are the most popular and I have to admit that I was completely surprised about some of the posts which made the top ten, including the number one most viewed post on Grocery Gems in 2014! For this list, I left out any post that made the top ten that wasn't actually published in 2014 (there are a couple of reviews from 2013 that are still very popular). You can click on the product name for links to the original review.

10: Coke Life

Just making the top ten is my review of the first new core brand to be released by Coca-Cola since 2006 - Coke Life. This also made my personal favourites of the year list. It's no surprise to me that this is in the top ten, in fact I'm just surprised this review from back in August it wasn't higher up on the list.

9: Müller Corner Bliss Whipped Greek Style Yogurt

This is one of those reviews that I had completely forgotten about so I was completely surprised to see it anywhere near the top ten. The photos are ones that I had taken on my kitchen worktop which usually means that I'm not planning to even review the product (I pretty much take photos of everything now just in case!). Anyway, I'm certainly glad I posted this review in the end, as readers were obvioulsy curious to know more about this new Whipped yogurt from the Müller Corner range.

8: Lidl Deluxe Coconut Spread

Coming in at number 8 is the Lidl Deluxe Coconut Spread review. This was definitely one of my favourite finds of 2014. Even though it had been around before in previous years, this is the first time I had managed to find and review it. Lidl brings out the Deluxe range of spreads for sale at sporadic intervals during the year and it remains a frustratingly difficult product to find.

7: M&S Toffee Fudge & Belgian Choc Hot Cross Buns

At number 7, the M&S Toffee Fudge & Belgian Chocolate Hot Cross Buns. I was quite shocked to see this review amongst the most popular of the year, I didn't really remember these hot cross buns at all. Looking back, however, they were one of the more interesting products released last Easter, along with the equally tasty Double Chocolate Hot Cross Buns from Tesco. I hope we'll see some interesting hot cross bun flavours for 2015 too.

6: Haribo Minions

I'm pleased to see these Haribo Minions in the Top Ten even though the sweets themselves were quite disappointing in terms of flavour. Despicable Me 2 is one of our favourite family films and I think the cheeky Minions characters are here to stay as popular characters for products aimed at children. In fact, I spotted Minions products for Easter already - check out my instagram photo of these Minions Eggs

5: Asda Piñata Cake

Asda came up trumps with this great value piñata cake - a celebration cake filled with sweets. Piñata cakes were already popular on blogs and Pinterest but it's handy to have a supermarket version for anyone who is not a keen baker. Asda often releases celebration cakes with wow factor - such as the Asda Rainbow Cake back in 2013.

Reaching the number 4 spot, this review of the Tesco Custard Cream Spread, was the post I was expecting to hit the number one spot easily. I hands down thought this was my most popular review, especially after it was mentioned on various news sites and my photos used on Buzzfeed. However, not only wasn't it number one, there was actually another sweet spread review that beat it on viewing figures.

3: Maltesers Teasers Chocolate Spread

Surprisingly, there are a total of three chocolate spreads in this top ten! I posted this Maltesers Teasers Review just a few days before the Tesco Custard Cream review but I didn't expect it to have been more popular. I guess that's what happens when you turn a favourite chocolate brand into a spread. Here's hoping that 2015 sees the release of a proper Bounty Chocolate Spread!

2: Walkers Ranch Raccoon Crisps

Of all the crisp reviews I posted in 2014, I didn't expect the one with the worst rating to become the most popular and certainly not to be the second most viewed post. This was a variety that divided crisps fans with it's love-it-or-hate-it gamey meat and sour cream flavour. I wasn't even going to review this variety, having already reviewed all the other varieties in Walkers Do Us A Flavour promotion. However, even though I hated the flavour, I decided to review them just to complete the series. Funnily enough this review was also posted in the same week as the above Tesco Custard Cream Spread and the Maltesers Teasers Chocolate Spread. Looking back that was an important week for Grocery Gems!

1: Kinder Surprise Disney Princess & Marvel Heroes

And finally, easily being my most popular post of 2014 is this review of the Kinder Surprise Disney Princess and Marvel Heroes range. It's funny to look back and see a Disney Princess product that doesn't include any of the characters from the movie Frozen! This review from back in February 2014 was my most popular post by far in 2014. It even attracted a staggering amount of comments, with a mini swap-shop taking place via the comments section. I thought that was just wonderful!

I hope you enjoyed this run down of the Top Ten Grocery Gems posts of 2014. Thank you to all my readers, commentators, and anyone who's sent me photos over the year. I really do appreciate your support. Here's to more foodie gems in 2015 :)
