Friday's Ferrari

This is a photograph that I took at Luffield Corner during the HGPCA Sports Car Race at the Christie's International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1992.
The yellow car is the 1957 Ferrari 500 TRC of David Cottingham which has a twin overhead camshaft 4-cylinder inline 1,984cc engine derived from the 1953 Formula 2 unit designed by Aurelio Lampredi and a body designed and built by Scaglietti. The 500TRC was an updated version of the 500TR, the first to have the 'Testa Rossa' red camshaft covers, modified to comply with the 1957 Appendix C Regulations, and it was a 'customer' car, never being raced by Scuderia Ferrari. David Cottingham's car is chassis #0682MDTR that was first owned by Ecurie Nationale Belge (also known as Equipe National Belge) which was formed by a merger of Ecurie Belge and Ecurie Francorchamps. It finished in seventh place in the 1957 Le Mans 24 hour race in the hands of Lucien Bianchi and Georges Harris, winning the 2 litre class. The green car at the side of the Ferrari is a 1957 Lotus Eleven, probably that of Carol Spagg, while behind are the red 1954 Austin Healey 100M of Bill Clegg and the 1952 Jaguar C-Type of Hugh Taylor.

1950s Sports Car Racing at Oulton Park

I took this photograph at Britten's chicane during the AMOC '50s Sports Cars race at the Aston Martin Owners Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2015.
Leading is Tim Reid in his 1960 Lola MkI followed by Paul Kennelly in a 1950 Jaguar XK120. The next car is the 1955 Jaguar XK140 of Alexis de Beaumont then the 1955 Austin Healey 100M of Robert Rawe, and Mark Hoble's 1954 Triumph TR2.

Coppice Corner, Donington Park

I took this photograph from McLean's Corner looking toward Coppice Corner during an 'Equipe' GTS Series race at the VSCC's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.

Just about to round Coppice Corner is the 1964 MGB of Peter Bolderson and the red car at the bottom of the rise is the 1965 TVR 1800S of Mark Ashworth. The number 33 car is the 1961 Sunbeam Alpine of Keith Hampson with the 1954 Austin Healey 100M of James Wilmot-Smith slightly behind and to his right. Bringing up the rear is the 1965 MGB of Graeme Forrester.

1955 Austin Healey 100M

This was one of the competitors in the Pre-1961 Sports & GT Cars Race at the Vintage Sports Car Club's SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.

It's the 1955 Austin Healey 100M of Robert Rawe, chassis BN1 227598, and has the 4-cylinder inline 2,660cc engine that powered the unsuccessful Austin A90 Atlantic. OSJ 919 was originally a basic Austin Healey 100 BN1, but during a restoration between 2001 and 2009 it was brought up to 100M specifications.

Austin Healey 100M

This car took part in the HSCC Historic Road Sports Championship Race at the Silverstone Historic Tribute meeting in June 2004.
It's the 1955 Austin Healey 100M of Kate Arthurs. The 100M was a high-performance version of the Austin Healey BN2 although not intended to be used solely for racing, unlike the 100S.

Austin Healey 100M

Here's a line of cars in the paddock at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in May 2011.
It's the four Austin Healey 100Ms that took part in the Pre-1961 Sports & GT Cars Race. From the left are Mark Pangborn's 1955 model (WVS 238), James Wilmot-Smith's 1954 car (WSL 432), then two more 1955 models, those of Michael Thorne (228 UXN) and Robert Rawe (OSJ 919).
