Friday's Ferrari

I photographed this car in the paddock at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010, but it didn't take part in any of the races there.

It appears to be a 1957 Ferrari 250 TR Scaglietti Spyder, but started off life as a 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2, chassis #2349. It spent its early years in Sweden where it was badly damaged by a fire and was rebuilt in its current form by Neil Twyman.

Friday's Ferrari

I photographed this car at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2005.
This car started off life in 1963 as a Ferrari 250 GTE Series III with the 2,953cc V12 engine, but in the early 1980s was rebodied as a Ferrari 500 TRC. At the time of this Donington Park meeting it was owned by Stuart Anderson and didn't take part in any of the races.

Friday's Ferrari

I photographed this car in one of the pit garages at the Silverstone Classic meeting in July 2010.
It's a very convincing looking 1957 Ferrari 250 TR Scaglietti Spyder, but it started off life as a 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE, chassis number 2349GT. The car was severely damaged in a garage fire in Sweden in 1972 and rebuilt in its current form by Neil Twyman.

On 7 November 2014 I showed a photograph that I had taken of this car at Silverstone in July 2000.

Friday's Ferrari

Here's a Ferrari photographed in the pit garage at the VSCC Richard Seaman Memorial Trophy meeting at Donington Park in June 2003 which isn't exactly what it appears to be.
It looks like a 1957 Ferrari 500 TRC but it actually started off life as a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE, being rebuilt in it's present form in the early 1980s and the serial number is 4873GT. The car has belonged to Stuart Anderson since 1997 and you can read something of the history of the car here on his website. Have a look down the list of contents on the website as well - I found it most interesting and informative.

Friday's Ferrari

This is a car I photographed at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1997. It's a 1962 Ferrari 250GTE serial number 3611GT, rebodied with a Drogo body from 2735GT and with a Ferrari 275GTB engine. Here's what www.barchetta.cc has to say about the car.

The photograph below, which I took a few seconds before the one above, shows one of the perils of taking photographs in a crowded paddock before the advent of digital photography. At least with a digital camera you can always delete the last image and try again.

Friday's Ferrari

This is a car seen in the Ferrari Owners Club area at the Coy's International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1997.
It's a Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 and you can read here what the official Ferrari website has to say about the car. This car is serial number 3439GT

Friday's Ferrari

This is a car seen in the paddock at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004.
It's a Ferrari 250 GTE from the early 1960s in the guise of an Italian police car. Two of these cars were apparently provided for the Rome police, one of which was involved in a crash and written-off on its first day of service and the second one is said to be in the police museum in Rome. The car pictured here doesn't seem to be the same car as the original police car shown in images I've seen on the web, so is perhaps a look-alike formed from a standard GTE (possibly 2293GT). Most of the Ferrari 250 road cars used the Columbo designed V12 3 litre engine but the 250 GTE police cars were thought to have a later 4 litre engine.
