Rome Revisited

It's been a couple of years since I've been near my Caesarian-Roman project, but here's another 'legion'.

Mostly painted even further back than 2014. So the treatment of the bronze and skin is somewhat different from my current approach.

However, I hope that consistency of basing and weathering will give the army a coherent feel.

28mm figures by Foundry with some GMB shields transfers under the grime and sword marks.

Anyway, back to Imperial Russian Green!

Some Archers

.. to whet the appetite whilst I sort out a post on the next batch of cuirassiers.

These form part of my project to convert two HYW armies to Hail Caesar rules, which requires the sixteen figure archer units to be bolstered by a further four figures.

Onwards and upwards ...

Honda Redux

Those who follow the Lead Painters League may be aware that I signed up for 'It's Alive!' - a collaborative task in which we try to finish off abandoned projects. In my case, a late sixteenth century Samurai army.

So first up were the last of the dismounted samurai, as well as refreshing those already completed.

Numidian Light Horse

A small unit of Numidian light horse to help keeps irritations off the Legions' flank.

To pre-empt debate on Numidian skin tones, these are from a tribe to the western edge of Numidian North Africa. ;-)

More to follow next week, when I hope to give you a post-Tactica photo dump.

If Jim Bibbly turns up in any of them, I will warn you in advance to avoid any unpleasantness.

Based for Hail Caesar:

and for Clash of Empires:

Legion VIII

My first full legion ready for action, Legion VIII:

One of the oldest units in Roman service, Legion VIII was founded by Pompay in 65 B.C. but became one of Caesar's most trusted legions after it had been transferred to Cisalpine Gaul in 58 B.C. Under Augustus Caesar this unit gained the title Augusta.

We are Legion!

First batch of Legionaries - half a unit of eighteen figures.

The aim is to have two units completed by the end of the month.

They based to be used with either Clash of Empire or Hail Caesar, i.e. two ranks of nine for the latter and three of six for the former :-)

Anyway, back to finishing off some more Forge World loveliness...

Rome!

I know, it's been a very long time since I posted anything here, but I have been painting....

First up is a growing Caesarian Roman army based for both Clash of Empires and Hail Caesar.

Balearic Slingers,

Numidian Skirmishers,

Cretan Archers,

I hope to have the first Legion cracked over the weekend. Just waiting on some steel bases to come through the post...
