We got back from California on Wednesday, and although I plan to post some pictures from the trip, I wanted to post these first because I was really happy about how they turned out.
I stayed up way too late the night before, going shopping for supplies and then making a whole bunch of stuff to keep Jamie busy and happy on the plane. Thank you, Pinterest!
(Are you on Pinterest? Are you addicted? It's hard not to be, dontcha think?)

Here's the collection of stuff I bought/made for him to do.
This one I got from this blog via Pinterest.
I got this one from the same blog here. I got the puffballs and the magnetic letter set (which I want to get more of) at Dollar Tree. I stinkin' love that place! I bought a package of magnets and the baking pan (0.97) at Wal-Mart, as well, and still have lots of magnets left over.
Be sure to look at the link, because this lady had lots more uses for the puffball magnets for her older kids!
You can also use the other side and the magnets as a nice hard coloring/stickering/painting/whatever surface!
This one was my own idea. Empty wipes case, and I photocopied colorable pictures from the church nursery manual and added a set of Dollar Tree crayons.
I super-glued a clip (from a free magnet I got somewhere) to the back to make a good coloring surface.
Another of my own ideas. Some felt shapes stored inside the case...
I meant to get a picture of the back by itself--that big blue piece of felt (the sky) is glued to the back of the wipes case to make a felt board.
Here's another option. Still trying to think of more ideas for this one.
I really want to try to do more creative things with Jamie, and I've had some more ideas on how to expand the uses of some of these since I made them. Hopefully this is the beginning of a more fun mom!
***Edited 9/20/2012*** I noticed that this post has had over 600 views--crazy for my humble little blog, and obviously due to Pinterest. Please, if you like what you see, make a girl's day and leave a little comment. It would make me so happy to feel like I had made a difference to someone!

I like them all! Why have I not seen these on your pin boards? I will have to check them out. :)
I found you on Pinterest. Love your ideas. I have an empty wipes container that I'm considering right now. Thinking of other felt shapes... Um, tic tac toe, birds airplanes, hot air baloons, camp site, outer space, holiday themes, dress up people, cowboys, zoo. I am getting excited over this! You know, you could probably pack a whole different background color and slap the rectangle onto the blue to really switch it up. I LOVE IT. I love that I already know it will fit in my diaper bag, my kids will love it! Thanks again!
Love the wipe cases! What a great idea to have the felt board scene with a built in place for storage! Great thinking!
What kind of glue did you use to glue the felt to the baby wipes case? I used white glue and my two year old ripped it right off.
love the feltboard idea out of a self-contained wipes case....genius!
Thanks so much for sharing these great ideas. I am definitely going to be making a felt kit from a wipes container - this is genius!!!
Thanks so very much for all your comments, all! Carrie, I'm getting excited over all the extra ideas you've just given me--thanks! Deborah Gilbert, I used hot glue, and I believe I made sure to use my high-temp gun. I haven't had any problems with the felt coming off.
I love the wipes case idea. I am going to make a few for our church bag!
I love the felt wipes case idea!
I went to your blog after seeing the felt board on pinterest, but I love all the other ideas too! I think I'm going to make them all :)
found you through Pinterest. Love the wipes/feltboard idea. I wish my kids were little again, but my niece still is, so thank you for a fun Christmas idea.
oh man, this is all fantastic! I found this via pinterest (yes I love it and yes I'm addicted)...and it's going to be perfect!! We have a 20 month old and we'll be flying from California to Washington DC in January, and I'm trying to get things figured out soon since it will be such a long trip (with layovers...ugh). I will definitely be doing the magnet board and felt board thank you SO much!!

Stop on by sometime!
Hi :) I found this on Pinterest, and I am IN LOVE with the wipe case ideas! Please, think of more :P They are so cheap & easy, plus my son loves them!
I making these as chritsmas presents this year for my neices and nephews! Such a cute idea :)
I just made your felt wipes case. It was so easy! I bought soft peel and stick felt from Hobby Lobby witch worked great! Since my kids are older I just stuck to squares, triangles, and circles. I'm thinking I might add letters so they can spell. Thanks for the idea!
LOVE the felt wipes case. I'll be making it soon!
These are great! I'm using your idea but I put a little twist on it! I made two and paired them with book. One is with the "Rainbow Fish" book and the other with "Chica-Chica Boom Boom". My son loves books and for right now he "builds the picture" as I read to him and eventually I'm hoping to use this as a tool to get him to remember and retell the story.
i am having a girls day friday and plan on doing your felt wipes case. what a great idea!!! thanks and keep posting! it's always encouraging seeing other moms trying to help their children learn!
Love your wipes container idea!
I am so Excited for the wipes case! I have 2 year old twins, that do not like to sit still but I think this will help/ Thanks!!!
Love the felt wipes case...think I will make a couple for gifts this Christmas!
I like the felt board wipes case idea, too! Thanks for sharing!
I saw the feltboard wipes case on Pinterest and came over from there. I love portable flannelboards because I'm a children's librarian who often does storytimes "to go" so I need super-portable props! My favorite thing from this post is how much your son liked the cookie sheet/magnets. Great reminder that simple things are often the easiest and best!
I also saw this on pinterest and these are all great ideas I want to try out, especially with my wiggly 2 year old on our flight in a month. Thanks for sharing!
I am going to make these felt board cases for my kids to go in the travel bags I'm making for Christmas, great idea!!! Thanks!!
Love your site!!!! I blog too check out my site: lifeasatwinmom@blogspot.com. I'll be back to see what else you come up with! Great ideas!
I too came over from Pinterest for the felt case. LOVE that idea! And I like the other comments of pairing it with books and doing shapes.
I love how much your son enjoyed the magnets. :) Ah the simple things in life.
I love these ideas! I'm going to have to start collecting the wipes cases. But I think that felt pieces will stick better to a flannel back than to felt.
I love a of these ideas especially the felt wipes case. How do you make the shoes? Do you literally cut them all out by hand? I would love to try those ideas with my almost three year old boy. Thanks!
What a great list of ideas! I'm excited to try all these ideas on our upcaming plane trip with my 3 year old son.
I use wipes cases as crayon holders for in the car to help incase they melt. But, the clip and small photos is genius!! I'm also totally doing the felt idea. Love it!!!
I love this idea! I think I will make one for my 1 year old for church. I will probably just start with basic shapes, since he will just like putting them on the board. The best part is that I have all the stuff to make this! Thanks for sharing!
Love these ideas! We are doing an 8 hour drive this weekend so i just went and got supplies to make these!!
Using the felt wipes idea for an upcoming road trip! Love it!
I used your felt wipes case idea and made my 2 year old son a shapes version. He adores it!! He loves tellng me the shapes he is putting on his felt case. Thank you for the idea :-)
Love the wipes case!! Going to make it today, to keep grandson happy on a road trip. Thanks for posting all f your awesome ideas!! Great job... :)
I would love a pattern please. jaimie.goss@yahoo.com
Thank you again for all your comments! It truly warms my heart to hear that people are enjoying the wipes case idea--I know how priceless it is when your kid is actually entertained by something you've made for him!! :) To Jaimie, if I remember right, I just free-handed all of the shapes I made. I saw a similar idea, though, with Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head pieces, that the author gave patterns for. Here's the link, for anyone interested: http://pinterest.com/pin/120400990010254340/ Thanks again for all your kind words!
I love the felt case idea and am planning to link to it in 10 ways to make the day magical (make some fun homemade gifts) at A Magical Childhood today. Thanks for all the great ideas! :)
