MJ: Your books are always crazy fun! What's your next release?

KK: After New Blood, I'll have to see what I put on the summer writing schedule. Maybe another Bloody Little Secrets novel...I'll have to see what the Magic 8 Ball tells me!

MJ: Ooooooh! I love the idea of more vampires. If you were trapped on an island, what three books would you want to have with you?

KK: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Did I mention Harry Potter? Those specifically though because 1, introduced us to the world, 4 took us to the next level, and 7 wraps the whole series. Really, I'd just rather bring all 7.

MJ:  Okay, I'll allow it. lol. Who is your celebrity crush?

KK: Oh so many...Ewan McGregor, Ian Somerhalder, Brad Pitt...

MJ: I approve! What's your favorite color?

KK: I should say something bright like hot pink, but if I had to pick what most of my clothes are...blue and gray.

MJ: My clothes are mostly black. What's your favorite vacation spot?

KK: Europe...London. Munich. South of France... *sigh* I'll be there soon!

MJ: Do you have any pets?

KK: I have 2 dogs, a 7 year-old Shih Tzu named Peanut and a 2 year-old Lab mix named Summer.

MJ: You have the best puppies. <3 Now, I need YOU to ask ME a question about absolutely anything under the sun. It has to be a yes or no question and will be answered by my all-knowing Magic 8 Ball! The question can be serious or silly - it’s up to you.

MJ: Tell me about your novel in your own words, not the official synopsis.

SKQ: Third Daughter is a fun, snuggle-up romance set in an alternate-India. I set out to write a straight romance and somehow it ended up having skyships and saber-duels as well as a whole lot of political intrigue. It's the story of Aniri, Third Daughter of the Queen, and her struggle to choose between following her heart and marrying for love and fulfilling her duty with an arranged marriage to avert a war. Being Aniri, rebellious third daughter who will never wear the crown, she tries to find a third option... and finds more than she expects along the way.

MJ: Sounds awesome, right? It is. I know because I read it. :) What's your next release?

SKQ: I'm still recovering from releasing two books right before Christmas (Third Daughter and my middle grade fantasy, Faery Swap). Hm... my next release is a sekrit project, which will be out sometime in February. After that, Second Daughter (the second in The Dharian Affairs trilogy) will come out sometime in summer 2014.

MJ: WOOT! I love sekkrits!!! If you were trapped on an island, what three books would you want to have with you?

SKQ: Hunger Games, Leviathan, The Art of Happiness, by the Dalai Lama

MJ: The Art of Happiness is one of my favorite books too! Who is your celebrity crush?

SKQ: Joseph Gordon-Levitt... just... yum.

MJ: He's such a cutie. What do you wear when you write?

SKQ: Pajamas whenever possible. Jeans if not.

MJ: It's best to be comfy! What's your favorite vacation spot?

SKQ: Vacations? What is this thing you speak of?

MJ: LOL! I understand that! Do you have any pets?

SKQ: Two cats who climb into my workstation and eat my paper files. And meow at me for attention whenever I'm writing. I'm convinced they are my Resistance personified out walking around outside my body and tormenting me.

MJ: Tell me a bit about your novel, Wish I Could Have Said Goodbye, in your own words - not the official synopsis.

SB: Wish I Could Have Said Goodbye is a story about how Carmella D'Agostino struggles with her grief and guilt after losing her older sister to addiction, and the steps she takes to overcome her fears and find the courage to love again.

MJ: Did you pants or plot while writing your first draft?

SB:  plotted and improvised.

MJ: What’s your next release going to be?

SB: All the World's A Stage is a humorous novel about Gabrielle, an aspiring actress and expert Tarot card reader whose life is perfect and going right along as planned. But when her mother is injured in a car accident, and her best friend's ex-boyfriend flirts with her, Gabi's neat and tidy life begins to unravel.  Release date:  March 2013.

MJ: Now for the fun stuff! If you were trapped on a deserted island and you could only bring three books, what would you bring?

SB: The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian and Stephen King's On Writing.

MJ: Who is your celebrity crush?

SB: That's easy.  Phillip Phillips :)

MJ: What is your favorite color?

SB: Red

MJ: What do you wear when you write?

SB: Sweats, a t-shirt and one of my favorite fleece zip up sweatshirts in the winter, drawstring shorts and t-shirt in the summer. (I have to be comfy at my desk)

MJ: What’s your favorite vacation spot?

SB: Isle of Palms, South Carolina (near Charleston).

I cannot believe Afterlife is finally out in the world. Well, at least part of the world. You can find it on Amazon (US & UK) and Barnes&Noble, but the iBookstore, Sony, and many international outlets are slow to post.

In honor of its release, I'm selling Afterlife for only 99 cents on April 27th through April 29th on Amazon and Barnes&Noble. It goes to its regular price of $2.99 on April 30th. Why? I wanted to give my loyal fans a chance to get it for cheap. You guys are the ones who've been there with me, who follow me in various places (Facebook, Twitter, my blog). Public Libraries & the Contest of All Awesomeness!!!!!!

I'm not one of those writers who recently learned to love books. I like to tell people I was raised in the wild by a bookshelf of librarians. My mom is a book lover and library aide. I spent nearly every morning and every afternoon in the elementary school library from 2nd grade through high school graduation because I rode with my mom to school. In college at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, I worked in a university library and spent more time than anyone I knew trolling through the stacks (one of the largest collections of books in the world).


When I grew up & had my own family, I wanted to volunteer at my local library so on a whim I attended a Friends of the Library meeting. That night I met some of the most amazing people I've ever met in my town. These people were pulled together by their love of books and libraries. I'd finally found my tribe.

I've been an active member now for nearly nine years, but every year I've paid the little $5 fee for membership. To celebrate the launch of Oubliette, I'm going to join Friends of the Fountaindale Library as a Lifetime Member, a $100 donation.

And before any of you call me a hypocrite - an e-publisher promoting libraries might seem contrary to some of you - I'm excited that my library has e-books in circulation. Libraries are not only a depository for the paper books we love so much, but also a resource in our ever-changing digital world!
