This n'That

I went to see this and enjoyed it immensely though I thought it a bit unfair that Meryl Streep should get anywhere near star billing since she only appears in the film for all of 5 minutes total! Anyway, if you get a chance, you should go and see it but remember to take your hankies!
I also saw this which was hilariously funny with brilliant performances from all the youngsters who starred in it and their singing was supreme too, mostly to the music of ELO (Electric Light Orchestra), so foot-tapping along was compulsory!
I'd like to see this too. Miss Winslet looks amazing in the trailer for the film and Judy Davies, the Australian actress, plays her Mother.  Seems like this post is all about things to see so here's another one to add to the list. The book was a great read so I hope the film will live up to its reputation. Well, Julie Walters is in it so that's a start! Then, finally, Maggie Smith at her best. The film adaptation of Alan Bennett's play and it looks like it will be a hoot! Well, I'm hoping so, anyway.

I'm joining in with Jennifer's Winter Project Link Party (well, I hope I can if I haven't left it too late again this month!). My first Winter Project is done -
The ubiquitous Spice of Life Crochet Along finally came to an end the other week and I enjoyed every minute of participation. There are now over 6,000 members on the FB Group page, with new members joining everyday. A roaring success for it's designer, Sandra Paul at Cherryheart and Black Sheep Wools who also hosted the CAL on their website too. Can't wait for Spice of Life Part II, should there ever be one but I think Sandra would like a little breather first!

So most things which are next on the Winter Project list will mainly be for gift-giving, such as
a new hat for one of my daughters-in-law to replace the one I knitted for her last year, which she wore continuously all through the winter.
and a crocheted hat for my other daughter-in-law as part of her Xmas parcel.
And to bridge the gap until the next 'big' project jumps into my lap, a warm and cosy cowl, all done in mindless garter stitch, which is very relaxing with all its to-ing and fro-ing. Minimum input, maximum results. That'll do for me!

It's very dreary weather here at the moment and it's blowing a 'hoolie' (Scottish for hurricane!)tonight and is set to last all week. How are you coping with the short days and dark nights in the Northern Hemisphere? I'm finding copious amounts of chocolate is helping a great deal!

See you all soon.

  1. There's never a wrong time for chocolate ;-) Your blanket is beautiful as are the hats for your daughters-in-law. The colours for your Spice of Life are some of the nicest I've seen!

  2. Funny you should pop up on my blog roll Anne as was just thinking about you this afternoon - your new makes are just beautiful as always. I love the wreath on your header. And I would just like to say ... even though its getting rather HOT over here ... & brown & crisp ... definately NOT short days & dark nights ... I too am dealing with it with copious amounts of chocolate (unfortunately - as my summer pants wont do up)!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Your Spice of Life blanket is really lovely, I like the colours you've chosen. I'm not even half way yet with mine but I don't mind it being a long term project. I love a bit of garter stitch, so easy to sit and relax with and it makes a gorgeous cowl, you've chosen lovely colours for that too.

  5. You have me READY to see those films. Suffragette is only at the art theater which is too far away. SAD. I love that actress (from my fav Secret Garden).

  6. Hi Anne, thank you for joining in with my link party! I loved seeing all the different kinds of things you've been working on. Those hats are really nice; I just love the look of plain white or cream wool. I want to see Brooklyn too! I've been watching the British drama Indian Summers on TV these past few weeks and Julie Walters is in that, so they've been showing an ad for Brooklyn before each episode of the British show. I love her in it, she's quite an actress. I hope you're having a good week, take care.

  11. Well you certainly got me clicking away on your blog today. Glad to have the recommendations and love the idea of the musical, just from the synopsis.
All is well here - am in a play this week - Family Planning by Frank Vickery. I play an 80 year old crotchety granny from Wales. It's a lot of fun but exhausting, even though she stays in bed throughout the whole play.
Will hopefully see you on the other side at the end of the week!
