Countdown.............

....So, are you getting prepared? Are you saying to yourself 'This year, I will be organised'? Have you made lists and then listed the lists you made? Are you getting crafty with Kirstie's suggestions for festive fun? Or maybe you're salivating over Nigella's simply divine little recipes (providing you have everything you require in your storecupboards and don't have to run out to any expensive shops for anything). Well, you know what? I haven't been doing any of those things and I'm really quite relaxed about all things Xmas-related (mainly because I have had other 'things' to deal with!). I simply haven't had the time and if time runs out before the Big Day, so be it.  Probably, like many of you out there in the stratosphere, the inclination to 'deck the halls', etc. has depleted somewhat with all that is going on in this crazy world we find ourselves living in. I'm hoping for a very big influx of hope to come from somewhere. Right now, it's eluding me.

In the meantime, I've been listlessly leafing through magazines and gift catalogues ad infinitum and all that I could find that I really liked was this natty pom-pom garland and because it came with a hefty pricetag, I though I'd give it a go and make my own! So, armed with the obligatory pom-pom makers and some yarn which had been donated to me, off I went. I quite like the end result.....

....and I saved quite a few pennies, into the bargain.

***********
I'd always admired those rag wreaths I kept seeing on Pinterest so I found an old linen blouse which was surplus to requirements (lots of other clothes, boots and shoes which were surplus to requirements have gone to the local Refugee Aid Bank) and started cutting it up into strips. I searched and searched until I found an old wire coathanger because that's what you need to make the circle shape of the wreath and I quickly got started tying the strips around and around the wire.
..not looking like much at the moment...you have to make more stuff to add to it...
like a couple of felt stars.....
....not the neatest of blanket stitches but they do the job....

....and a few hearts to embellish with buttons and extra stitches....
....and that's it more or less done and dusted!

......one Xmas decoration down, many more to go, if I can be bothered to go up to the attic and drag them all down again this year! We'll have to see about that.

Are you getting cracking for Christmas?
How far along are you with the preps?

Thanks to everyone for dropping-in last time.

    1. Thanks Jo and also for popping-in. It's like one minute there's loads of time to do things then the next minute it's Christmas Eve and everyone's in panic mode. I'm trying to avoid all that this year!!

  3. Lovely wreath and pompom creations Anne. I have decorated two trees with the usual stuff we bring out every year and have now run out of steam. I loved watching Kirsty but watching is enough - I am seriously lacking any inclination to create - must do better! Hope all is well and that hope reigns. Betty x

    1. Thanks Pal. I'm resisting any urges to go up to the attic and bring my usual rubbish down. Bit of Bah Humbug going on around here at the moment!! We moved Ma on Friday and I think I'm still recovering!! Will write soon. xxx

  6. I am feeling lacklustre like you, I think that your handmade, homemade, made with love decorations are beautiful and just the thing for a great loving Christmas. I hope that all will be better in your world very soon and that you will enjoy Christmas. xx

  7. Not getting on very well at all, just started knitting my son a hat.. Hope to get it finished in time... Might still be knitting it on Christmas Eve knowing me, but I have made a lot of grapefruit marmalade that might come in handy as gifts. Christmas looks in full swing at your house.. Hope you haven't had too many problems with the rain. ~ Julie.x

  8. You've cheered my shrivelled little heart, Nana. Love the circular wreath, who knew you started with a simple wire coathanger! I could do it!

Next year maybe I will make things. This year not. Like you, I spend time worrying about the state of the world.

  9. Sorry to hear about the 'big things' but so lovely to look at your creations. I particularly love the pom poms.
I decorated the house early this year as we had friends to dinner on 3rd December so it seemed a good opportunity to make everything look a bit festive. Looking forward to having my boy back (roll on Friday!) and then Christmas can really begin.
Lots of t'internet love to you Nana xxx

  10. Loving the rag-wreath, I have a love hate relationship with pompoms. I love 'em, I hate making 'em and when I do they never look as fat and luxuriant as the ones you've made. As for preps, all the appearances of being ready are just a facade, still have a lot of things to do so just continuing to paddle madly to keep up!

  11. Hope you've had some peace of mind since early December and been able to enjoy Christmas. Probably you've made some more decorations by now, and got well into the spirit, possibly at the last minute. All the best Jeneane
