Frilly and Funkie Challenge

Sharing my make for the latest Frilly & Funkie challenge today - the challenge is Let the Words Do the Talking, so a favourite quote stamp has a place of pride on my piece. I've gone very vintage for this make, using one of my favourite go-to colour palettes - soft, gentle yellows and pinks.

My background is layered with lace and book page then gessoed and stencilled with a leaf frond created with crackle paste. I used Distress Spray Stain spray inks and acrylics to add the colour over the top.

My focal point is a lovely vintage image (I think this is such a pretty photo). She's surrounded by a whole heap of embellies - sprayed flowers (Distress Spray in Scattered Straw and Tattered Rose), paper ephemera, lace sprayed with Scattered Straw ink, pieces of gold netting and metal embellishments. I also made up some stick pins and added micro beads.

The large flourish is created with a Prima mould and coloured with paint and Treasure Gold.

To finish I added Stampendous Frantage Tea Stained Mica Flakes here and there on the edges - LOVE this product!

And of course there is the all important quote - it's a PaperArtsy one from a Darcy set - it reads 'I want to be improbable and beautiful, afraid of nothing as if I had wings.' - isn't that just beautiful?

Before I go I must give a nod to my friend Caroline Ward who gave me some very useful constructive criticism - and the piece is better for it. Thanks Caroline!

Hope you like my challenge piece - thank you for visiting :).

Love in the Air!

Sorry I've been awol for a bit - lots going on, won't bore you with details. Anyway, it's time for another Rubber Dance Colour Challenge! This month's (optional) theme is LOVE - the theme is totally open to interpretation but I went quite traditional with this altered heart. All the challenge details can be found over on the RD Blog,

My background is stamped with the RD lace background in red (quite subtle) and then around the edges with a flourish (from RD For the Birds set). I then added a layer of Mod Podge, sprinkled it with the heart confetti and then secured the confetti with a top coat of Mod Podge.

I've also really been enjoying the Frilly and Funkie challenges and this month the theme is Valen-twine. Twine was a perfect finishing touch alongside the rough corrugated card of course to create a hanger for the heart.

My final challenge entry is We Do Doobadoo - theme Romance.

Thanks for popping over :).

Love,
Me x

Frilly & Funkie Guest Designer

I am absolutely delighted to have been asked to be a Guest Designer for the Summer Heat Challenge over at Frilly & Funkie. My post on F&F is here.

After much deliberation and several failed attempts, I came up with this canvas featuring bright summer blooms for the challenge.

I wanted my flowers really vibrant so I've coloured them with Inktense Blocks, using them straight from the box like a palette with a water brush. I love the intensity of colour! I used the same method with the label.

For the flower stems I used my new jewellery making skills to create stems and tendrils from coloured wire - I think these are quite effective and allow the blooms to sit off the face of the canvas the wire is supportive.

I raised the bottle and blooms with silicone glue so the canvas is really nice and dimensional. The red twine ties in with the flowers. The background is patterned paper by MME which I gessoed to knock it back and enhanced with splat stamps (IndigoBlu) and Tissue Tape. The bottle is an Artistic Outpost stamp.

Finally, I just want to show you a close up of the bookplate (please ignore my shoddy colouring of the words!!! You can't see it when the canvas is hung up as it's so small!). I've aged the bookplate with Watering Can Archival Ink - I simply pressed the ink onto it and then dried with a heat gun. It looks really tarnished - great effect.

That's it for today! Thanks for stopping by and good luck if you play along with the challenge!
