Beijing, China: August 2008

Jay and I spent the better part of August in Beijing during the Olympics to help document protests happening there. We blogged more in depth about it on RyanIsHungry. Here is the momentshowing version of the trip. As you can see the Olympics were everywhere. Shopping centers, cafes, buses, subway cars and stations. You could not escape the games. It was fascinating. Enjoy.

P.S. A majority of this video was recorded with the Flip Video Mino. I thought it did pretty well for an inexpensive pocket cam. Though the zoom is digital and kinda crappy and you can't go macro. The rest was captured with the Xacti E1.

Going Through Things: Reading, Erasing

as we finish moving cross country, i am starting to go through my stuff at my mom's house which she is also moving out of. all this moving... it's really strange reading old journals and seeing old photos and videos. keep some, throw most away.

p.s. don't my mom's cats look like some alternate reality version of battle cat and white baby?

p.p.s it's videobloggging week 2008. go get 'em!

San Antonio: Verdi's House

i was laughing my ass off when verdi and jay picked up the wii. i've never actually seen anyone use this, oddly, and i thought it was so funny. also this is one of the only clips i recorded during our trip on my xacti. i just never picked it up. jay took lots of photos though. have a lot of stuff for ryanishungry on tapes though! i think that was enough for me. videoblogging week 2008 starts tomorrow. time to video things for real!

Can Masdeu: Squat-Community Barcelona

we visited this radical squat-community called can masdeu in barcelona. they have these amazing gardens on this beautiful land over looking barcelona and out to the sea. their story is really interesting- they took over the abandoned building in 2001 by just staging a sit in (ok it was a little more dramatic than that). this footage is sound-less again.

Cambodia to Vietnam

more momentshowing. this is how we take pictures. people tell us to upload our photos to flickr, but i never take photos, i guess momentshowing is just our version of photos. cambodia to vietnam. the shot of me frantically and obsessively trying to upload video to the web on an old PC in the internet cafe cracks me up. look at my face! i look crazed! it's true, i must upload or else! now we're in thailand. i'm liking it so far! bangkok is huge, it reminds me of LA.

Cambodia: Days 2 and 3

yesterday we went to some pretty intense and amazing places. recorded mostly on the big camera so you'll get to see them later. 2 orphanages, one in a rural village and one in the urban slums. it feels weird bringing cameras in to those places, but it seemed that everyone there, children and adults, welcomed us. i really love hanging out with kids. they're so playful even under the worst circumstances. pretty amazing. thanks for watching, i'm so excited to be able to share this stuff with everyone almost instantly! and i'm glad people care to watch. i love videoblogging.

Cambodia: Day 1

jay and i made it to cambodia! the first day was recovering from the long flight and checking the place out. damn internet is slow here. this 20mb file took two attempts, one canceled after an hour upload to blip. the second, i'm FTPing using internet explorer to my own server. nutty, but not impossible!

Can I Get A Witness?

sometimes i feel a little crazy and i need to share it. do you feel crazy too? let's feel crazy together. we flew overnight from San Fran to NYC. haven't been here since we moved last year. it feels different because we're staying in a hotel and not in our apartment. so much happening all the time, i can barely keep up. sometimes i forget to do things i was supposed to do. talk of vloggercon happening again happened today. it's overwhelming and exciting. what comes next? i don't know, but can i get a witness? i need a witness and some company in the insanity that is just life. let's go.

Vegas Baby, Vegas

Vegas, the attraction, is hell. Don't go there unless invited. It's expensive and disappointing, even if you're not gambling. You're gambling your time by even being there, IMHO.

Wine in a Paper Cup

My sister Ashley is in town finishing up her Sustainable Route project. This was Friday night. Verdi, Ash and I went to Oakland to visit Gary Paul's Inferno Gallery. When I feel awkward at parties, I get out my camera. Hence the birth of this video.
