Primitive Gatherings

I've been working on the Primitive Gatherings sew along. The wool applique center is the first part and the pieced border is the second part. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next for this project.
Found this little antique quilt at the local Vintage Market. It's worn and tattered and has vintage buttons and lace sewn on by the person I bought it from. I love the pink fabric in this quilt.

You can find me on Instagram to see more pictures.

Happy Quilting!

Wool

I finished the second wool wallhanging from the Block of the Month I did a few years ago. The pattern called for pennies around the outside but I thought it would look sloppy hanging on the wall. I think it's better without them. Edit: The pattern is from Waltzing with Bears and my version pictured here is 18 x 36.
I'm so happy to see the flowers blooming around the garden after a wonderful few days of sun. The bleeding hearts are looking pretty and the pansies are easy to grow. But now Easter weekend is going to be a wet one for us.

Wishing Everyone a Happy Easter!

Needle Case

Still enjoying all the turkey leftovers, I might make a turkey soup tonight.....I love turkey.

I almost forgot to show my finished Sue Spargo needlecase, I showed it before doing the embellishments here. This is the front of the case with all the embellishing finished.

Here is the back.

Completely open you can see the front, back and inside sections.

Here is the inside with the wool pages for needles and scissors tied in place. I really enjoyed doing the embellishments around everything, there is a lot of stitching in this case. I used cotton, wool and some silk velvet for the appliques. You can find the pattern here. It's free!

Happy Stitching!

Little Bits

Very little in the way of sewing going on here. I've done little bits here and there. I'm working on a Sue Spargo needle case. There is a lot of stitching to do with embellishing now that the wool applique is finished.

The other little progress I made was sewing the binding on this panel. It doesn't feel like much accomplished on any projects. I've also finished cutting for my Speck quilt using Halloween fabrics. It might take me a while as there are lots of little pieces in this one. Slowly I might get something accomplished.

Happy Quilting.

Weekend Project

I spent most of the weekend prepping these Wool Garden Blocks, my new favourite sewing notion is Misty Fuse. Now I can start stitching without any pins to get in the way or worry about glue not sticking. The first 2 blocks pictured, I had previously finished, the next 10 I'll be stitching on the long flights coming up soon. The wool in these kits is outstanding and I'm enjoying making each one. Now to start packing!

Oak Leaf Table Mat Finished!

I finished the wool table mat that I took at Buggy Barn Quilt Shop with Maggie Bonanomi of Need'l Love. I always enjoy taking a class because each time I'll learn something new. Maggie does her wool applique with plain all purpose thread. For this mat I used one colour of Coats brown. The tongues are another really neat trick. The strip of wool is the width of the mat. I folded in in half and made a little snip in the middle, then I folded the half in half and made another snip. Then I took the half again and divided it in to three and snipped again. This technique gave me 12 tongues on long one side. After I have finished dividing all the sections, I snipped each tongue to about 1/4" away from cutting all the way through (you can see in the picture below). I then rounded off each tongue by cutting from the top of each (not coming up from the bottom). The bottom being the edge that is straight and will be sewn to the mat.
When all the strips of tongues were ready I sewed these to the mat with a whip-stitch on top. I also backed the mat with a piece of cotton to finish it off.

Happy Stitching Everyone. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Wool Applique

I'm not sure what I've been doing this week, a little of this and a little of that, mostly a lot of not finishing anything. Started hand sewing a binding on a quilt, working on my pincushion swap, sock #2 is waiting to be knitted and my sewing machine has been in the shop, not that should stop me because I have another machine I can use. But it's a good excuse anyway.

I thought I'd show a couple of felted wool quilts I made in 2004, yes I did both in one year. The first quilt is queen size by Quilt Country, called Midnight Garden. The flowers are felted wool by Moda and I hand appliqued them on black flannel background. I machine quilted this myself and still don't know how I managed with such a heavy quilt. All that wool!

The second one is folky and primitive called Wooly Flower Sampler by Starry Pines. I tea dyed the white flannel background and hand appliqued the felted wool flowers and embroidery. The wool was hand dyed so it has much more colour variation with each flower. I also machine quilted this one, can you see the wavy lines in the sashing??, that's where I used the wavy ruler (see previous post). The background of all the blocks I did stippling, my favourite for filling in spaces. This is a wallhanging size 44x52.
