Card for a Man

Hello all, nice to have you here!

For the new month we have a new challenge over at Country View Challenges. This time the theme is "Use a stencil or two...".

I love to use stencils very much and I guess I use them in nearly all my artwork.

To add texture with a stencil changes the whole look of a piece and they are so very versatile in their use.

For my first piece I decided to make a card for a man.

This is what I did:
I took a piece of watercolor paper and sprayed it with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in a light grey.
I put the stencil Lattice Work form Tim on top of the wet paint, sprayed a little bit more and left it to dry.

When it was dry, I removed the stencil and it looked like this.

The stencil was still wet, so i placed it on another piece of paper. I will use it for a second card.

To get rid of the "frame" I spreat Distress Inks ground espresso and black soot around it with a distressing tool and a sponge.

Time for a second stencil. I used the Numeric stencil from Tim, also one of my favourites, with Distress Oxide mermaid lagoon.

To make the numbers stand out more, I surrounded some of them with a white posca pen.

For some more marks I used the third stencil, again a Tim one, called Stitched Layering, with Distress Oxide crackling campfire. It´s not visible very much, but it adds a subtile texture and a hint of color.

To finish the background, I sprinkled some white paint on top.

I stamped my image and the sign, colored all, layered them and glued them on top of my background. Last I glued everything on top of a card and embellished the card with some flowers and a bow.

Now it´s ypir turn to make something with a stencil! As always you can win a 20£ voucher for the shop.

Thank you for your visit today!

Real Gentlemen - Card for Country View Challenges

Hello everybody, nice to have you here today!

For the November challenge at Country View Challenges I made a card for a man. The theme this month, hosted by my lovely team mate Christine, is Hand Stamped, the vocal image must be stamped, no digital stamps are allowed.

I went through my stamps (well, there are a few 😋😎) and found this stunning gentlemen from PaperArtsy! I really love this stamp, although it is not easy to get a good, crisp print (the stamping platform is enormously helpful!)

This is what I did:

For my background I used a gear stencil and soft matte gel. When the gel has dried, I colored the page with acrylic paints in teal and brown and used antiquing paint. To grunge it up I scrubbed antique paste over parts of the surface, used DI ground espresso here and there and to color the distressed edges. Lastly I highlighted the stenciled gears with golden wax paste.
For even more interest I randomly stamped with brown Archival Ink a script stamp and a postal stamp, both are from PaperArtsy, on top.

My main image I stamped several times with Versafine clair in nocturne and pinecone, colored the faces with DI antique line and colored the background with DI tea dye and darkened the edges with DI ground espresso. Then I put it on a thick piece of cardboard.

I I matted the picture with a distressed piece of cheesecloth, added some diecut, painted gears, a clockface, a flower and some paper rolls. Then I adhered it to a card and lastly I added two metal knobs.

Now I hope, you grab your stamps too and join in with our challenge this month! You know, you can win a 20£ voucher for the shop!

Thank you for your visit today and happy November!

Steampunk Fantasy Card

Hello all, it´s a very busy time here at the moment, the school year is nearly at it´s end, holidays are in sight and many, many little things are to do and to finish.
As I am the birthday card maker for all collegues at our school and also asked, when there is something to alter or decorate for a gift, I have to do much right now.
Today I want to show you one of the cards I made for a collegue (sorry, the photo is not the very best):

Over at Country View Challenge we have this month the challenge theme: circles. This is my second piece for it.
And what could be better fitting there than steampunk wheels, manometer and gears!
I used a set of papers and embellishments from LaBlanche and another set called fantasy, which includes gorgeous images. One I used here.
Here are some close ups:

Here you can see some of the gears and a manometer - so cool!
Here I used a circle metal embellishment - you can find circles nearly everywhere! ;-)
for the background I used a stencil from Tim Holtz (one of my favourites) with DI in rusty hinge, then I randomly rubbed slitely some golden Inka gold. I splattered some gesso and black gesso for more interest (circles too =) )
The circle framed numbers are adorable! I love this set!

That´s it for today, I´ll show you more of my latest creations next time, so stay tuned!

Here you can see how I made it:

First I cut a cardstock to the right size, distressed the edges and colored them with DI "rusty hinge".

Now the first stencil was used. I randomly put some structure paste with a spatula at the edges - little hint: it looks better most of the time when you only use some parts of the stencil.

For not being such a hard contrast of the white paste to the background, I used some mists for coloring.

For the focal point I used another stencil, in which I first stamped with a little script stamp.......

........and afterwards colored with DI "rusty hinge" using a Blending Tool. Of course you can use any other sponge too.

Now I used two other Gentleman stencils, overlapping the first one. I used DI "walnut stain" for the right one and DI "black soot" for the Gentleman on top.

To make the man in the middle stand out more, I embossed him twice with WOW embossing powder "Clear Gloss Ultra High".

The last step for the focal point was to color the background with DI "tumbled glass" and "faded jeans" and to stamp the sentiment "We are the heroes of our own story".

I matted the stamped picture with some scraps of paper and glued it down to the card. I embellished the card with some colored Art Stones, a paper flower and a wood gear.

Some close ups:

Now I hope you like my male card and you feel a bit inspired!
May be you find time to join our challenge this month!

Karte zum Ruhestand - Card for Retirement

Hello all, a warm welcome to my blog!
Today I want to share a card with you. A colleague retires and says farewell on friday.
After being a admirer of Astrid McLeans art work, I oriented my work a bit on hers.

I made my own background, using 3 different stencils, 6 different stamps and rub ons from Canvas Corps Brands and LaBlanche.

The focal point is a stamp from LaBlanche, which I stamped with Archival Ink Jet Black and clear embossed. I layered it with papers from Canvas Corps Brands, a diecut clockface, and some paper scraps from my stash. I stamped the sentiment "Good luck" and added flowers, a key and metal gears and a metal medallion.

The inside of the card I embellished with papers from Canvas Corps Brands again and added a sentiment, I like very much:

What are you doing?
 Nothing.
I  let rain
the life
down on me.
Rahel Varnhagen

So, ich hoffe, euch gefällt meine Karte. Ich wünsche euch eine schöne Woche!
Vielen Dank für euren Besuch.
I hope, you like my card and I wish you a wonderful week!
Thank you for stopping by!
