Mind The Gap Release Catchy "Hero"/Play The Roxy

The next great (currently below the radar) LA quartet that I think is going to pop off in a SUPERGOOD way is Mind The Gap. As evidenced by their new single "Hero" - they capture the fusion of electronic dance in a way that feels like an indie ballad is being mashed up with a slamming house track by your favorite DJ. Hero even feels like A-Trak's remix of Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Heads Will Roll"...except its an original composition. And a catchy one at that. With recently landed synchs in "You're Next" and a forthcoming documentary tentatively titled "Generation Iron" - plus spots on Lifetime and other reality programming - it appears they have a penchant for songwriting and it's possible you may have even already been exposed to MTG.

If you haven't - August 30th at The Roxy is your chance. With a set scheduled for 9 p.m. in a supporting slot for Work Drugs - I can promise they'll unleash at least a half hour of power that will probably leave your feet sore, your heart racing and have you chanting at least one of their hooks. If you haven't heard or seen this train coming - make sure you Mind The Gap, because they've arrived. Get your tickets for tonight's show here!

Moderat + Tokimonsta = Thursday Turn Up

Club Nokia and Los Angelenos get a special treat tonight when Moderat - the esteemed collaboration of Modoselektor and Apparat - unleashes that good sort of filth as Thursday turns to Friday.  The collab does not tour often - so electronic music aficionados take note.

The late addition of Tokimonsta only makes the bill significantly better --- and makes the decision to not go that much more ignorant.  Don't miss the queen of electronic beats (TOKiMONSTA), where she is likely to perform a handful of tracks from her Ultra release "Half Shadows."  It's rare that such high quality musicianship and production skills packs a bill in Los Angeles and tickets are still available day of --- but they are, and for all ages.

Doors are at 9 and Patricio will be first to the decks.   Follow this link if you want to ensure you're in the building when the music drops.

LocAl fLAvor: Breakfast "True Love Waits"

Fierce, beautiful, well-orchestrated all aptly describe Breakfast's "True Love Waits" - but nothing does it justice like the song itself.  The deeply emotional ballad belted by the beautiful Andrea Adolph is enhanced by dramatic accordion and perfectly peppered ivory and ebony.

The clap breakdown is charming and cute, as is these seemingly young artists opining about how true love waits.  Does it?

Blurred Lines Gets Re-Worked by The Roots on Jimmy Fallon

The Roots hold a soft place in founder Brandon Dorsky's SUPERGOOD heart.  Having seen them upwards of 40 times - they capture a special place a top the list of bands he's seen most.  Their acceptance of a spot on Jimmy Fallon's late night program meant less touring than their former 200+ shows a year - but hey, the world now gets the treat of seeing them every night - and that is a net positive.

Earlier this week, they really impressed when Robin Thicke joined the legendary Roots crew and Mr. Fallon for a special rendition of "Blurred Lines" with classroom instruments.   Which version do you prefer?  The video might not be as sexy as the scandalous original, but check it out and decide for yourself.

araan in brazilll

Its Tuesday, but it already feels like the week is halfway over given that most of America is checking out of work Wednesday for an extended weekend.  Before you head out for the fireworks, BBQs and lounging by a pool or beach to cure the ails of these heat waves - check out the stream of AraabMUZIK's The Remixes Vol. 1 on Pitchfork.

As you might expect - the MPC master freaks and reworks popular tracks and dance floor anthems, infusing them with his quintessential hip-hop swagger.  AraabMUZIK's release drops on Ultra Music on July 9th - but stream this at your celebration(s) of freedom if you want to see a little extra free expression on your patio dance floor.
