ARTcycle 2015: Grannyman starts again

Hace unos meses nos invitaron a participar en la tercera exposición ARTcycle (Florida, EEUU). La idea de la exhibición es crear consciencia para una mejor convivencia de los coches y las bicis en las calles (Miami tiene una población ciclista bastante grande y lamentablemente son frecuentes los accidentes).

A few months ago we were invited to participate in ARTcycle´s third edition (Florida, USA). ARTcycle is an art event to raise awareness for riders and drivers promoting wellness and safer streets through an active lifestyle while supporting the arts. ARTcycle bikes as well as bike-related art are exhibited to promote awareness for bike safety.

Decidimos hacer un video (para ver el TRAILER PINCHA AQUI) para la expo porque nos permitía "jugar" con todo los que nos gusta: tejer, construir marionetas, hacer un poco de stopmotion, grabar un poco de imagen real...y tejer un poco más!.

We decided to make a video (watch TRAILER HERE) because it allow us to have fun doing what we like: crochet a little, build puppets, a bit of stopmotion animation, shoot some real image footage and crochet a little more!.

Por suerte contamos con la ayuda de unos (profesionales) amigos: Alberto, Thiago, Raúl, Rubén. Sin ellos hubiese sido imposible crear esta pieza.  Además mi cuñado Sebastián compuso la música para el video y quedó buenisima! ¡Mil gracias a todos por la confianza y el apoyo incondicional!

We were very lucky to have the support, help and love of some profesionals/friends: Alberto, Thiago, Raúl, Rubén. Without them it would have been imposible to make this piece. And also it was so great to work with my (little) brother in law Sebastián who created the (amazing) original score for the video. Big, big THANK YOU to all of you!

La exposición se inaugura hoy 6 de marzo y estará hasta el 24 de mayo en el Coral Gables Museum (Miami, Fl), si les pilla cerca los invito a que se acerquen ;)

The exhibit starts today March 6 until May, 24 at the Coral Gables Museum, please check it out if you happen to be in Miami.

PD: Como verán hemos creado una especie de super heroe lanero llamado "Grannyman"...que nos ha detonado muchas ideas y ganas de inventarle muchas aventuras...seguiremos informando...

PS: as you can see we created a sort of superheroe called "Grannyman" and now we can´t stop thinking about his next adventures...we will keep you posted!

Tejido mutante / Mutant crochet

(aqui otro post con muuuuchooo retraso...no sé hasta cuando podré utilizar la excusa del embarazo-mudanza-parto-bebé-todo es una locura...jejejje...pero aqui va)

En marzo (2014) el Museo del Traje (Madrid) organizó una exposición muy bonita llamada "Vidas a puntadas" con el "objetivo principal la visibilización del trabajo femenino relacionado con el mundo textil" y que terminaba "abordando la transformación de esas labores en una forma de ocio femenino, pero también con representación masculina creciente, que hoy se está convirtiendo en tendencia" para lo que nos invitaron a hacer la pieza de cierre de la expo.

Nuestra propuesta fue "invadir" el museo, que el tejido "saltara" desde sus usos tradicionales a la estructura del museo.

Una vez mas fue muy fácil trabajar junto al equipo del Museo y por supuesto no lo hubiésemos podido terminar sin la ayuda de nuestros maravillosos amigos Ana, Francis y Miguelito. Para mi fue todo un reto montar todo esto con una macro-panza de 36 semanas....¡pero valió la pena!

On March the Costume Museum (Museo del Traje, Madrid) organized a very interesting exhibit in which the main objective was the visibility of women´s work related to th textile world and it ended exploring the new ways in which both, men and women are using textile art as a form of expresion. So they invited us make the show´s closing piece. 

Our approach was "to invade" the museum so that the crocheted and knited pieces "jump" from it traditional place to the museum´s structure.

It was a pleasure to work again with the museum team and once again this would have been imposible to complete without the help of our wonderful friends Ana, Francis and Miguelito. It was a huge challenge for me to finish this with a (very big) 36 weeks belly...but it was worth it!

Nín hǎo

Desde que comencé con el ganchillo soy seguidora del blog All About Ami...como siempre estoy tejiendo más de 20 cosas a la vez (literalmente) nunca había logrado terminar un patrón de Stephanie.

Asi que estoy feliz con haber podido finalmente probar y TERMINAR uno de sus amigurumis (que son monisimos!). ¡Con ustedes la muñequita china! (patrón AQUI)

Hace poco en mi tienda de lanas favorita (Lanas Sixto, Calle atocha 9) encontré estos paquetitos de Katia, son mini ovillos 100% algodón recomendados para amigurumis. Hay cuatro packs deferentes con distintas paletas de colores...por supuesto que no pude resistir la tentación y compré unos para probar...asi que me lancé a hacer la muñequita con este hilo. ¡Y he quedado encantada!...se teje muy bien, es suave, no se abre y los amigurumis quedan pequeñitos y muy bien acabados!

Esta tejida con ganchillo de 2mm y como iba pillada de tiempo en los palitos del pelo le puse dos cuentitas en lugar de tejer las bolitas.

Since I started to crochet I'm  big fan of  All About Ami blog...but since I'm always crocheting more than 20 projects at a time I've never actually finished one of Stephanie's patterns.

So I'm very happy to have finished this cute little chinese doll (all of her patterns are sooo cute!) (Pattern HERE)

A few weeks ago I found in my favorite yarn shop (Lanas Sixto) this little packs of Katia's  cotton yarn recommended for amigurumis. They come in four different color palets and of course I couldn´t resist buying one. I used them for this project and I´m very happy with it. It´s soft, it doesn´t uncurl so is very easy to crochet with it and gives a very pretty finish.

I crocheted with a 2mm hook and instead of crocheting the tiny balls for the hair sticks I used a couple of plastic beads.

...desde hace mucho tiempo (al menos 3 años) tengo metidos un una bolsa las piezas de sus famosos "Spring Bunnies"...una de mis resoluciones de año nuevo será terminarlos...¡PRONTO!

...I have for at least 3 years pieces of her´s famous "Spring Bunnies" in a bag ...one of my New Year´s resolution it´s finishing them...SOON!

Chigüires felices /Happy Capybaras

Mi amiga Francis se casó hace un mes...cuando me contó que se casaba por supuesto que de inmediato me ofrecí a tejerle algo, lo que quisiera para su boda...
No tuvimos que pensar mucho...rápidamente nos decidimos por los muñequitos para la tarta...por alguna extraña razón los novios se llaman de cariño "chigüirito" (es el roedor viviente de mayor tamaño y peso del mundo. Habita en manadas en regiones de climas tropicales y templados siempre cerca del agua en humedales.)

Menos mal que Ravelry casi nunca me falla y al buscar un patrón de chigüire alli estaba. Es un poco complicado, no lo recomendaría para principiantes. Hay que hacerlo despacio, concentrado y con confianza pero el resultado es muy bueno, al menos yo he quedado muy contenta y con ganas de hacer más (supongo que Jara tendrá pronto alguno...jijijij). Últimamente utilizo para los amigurumis hilos delgados de algodón de Katia (Missisipi3, New Orleans o Cotton Stretch) con ganchillo de 2.25mm y me gusta mucho el acabado.

My friend Francis got married about a month ago. When she told that they were getting married I inmediatly offered myself to crochet something for the wedding.
We didn´t have to think much about it, the wedding caketoppers where the best choice. Their pet name is "chigüirito" (little capybara) so definitely this was the way to go!.
Luckily I always find what I´m looking for  in Ravelry, so I used THIS PATTERN. It´s a bit complicated, so I don´t recommend it for begginers but with patience and confidence you´ll get a very nice result...I ended up very happy with it! Iám sure I´ll be crocheting more of this cutties!.
I´ve been crocheting my amigurumis with Katia´s thin cotton yarns (Missisipi3, New Orleans and Cotton stretch) with a 2.25mm hook and I´m pretty happy with it!

Tuxedo Sam

De nuevo he probado con otro patrón de AmiguruMEI y de nuevo he quedado encantada.

De pequeña era fanática de Sanrio...y Tuxedo Sam era de mis personajes favoritos...asi que cuando vi este patrón no pude resistir la tentación...no le hice las alitas ni el sombrero...siempre cambiando los patrones...con las recetas soy igual...

Y bueno fue la excusa perfecta para probar un poco usando la cámara de Alvaro...poco a poco la voy entendiendo (después de añoooossss explicándome como funciona...que paciencia tiene el pobre...)

I´ve tried again another AmiguruMEI pattern and again I was pretty happy with the result.
When I was a little girl I was a huge Sanrio fan and Tuxedo Sam was one of my favorite characters...so when I came across this pattern of it I couldn´t resist crocheting it... I made a few changes, basically I didn´t crochet the wings and hat...I can never follow a pattern 100% (I do the same with cooking recipes).
After I crocheted it I decided to try taking pictures with Alvaro´s camera...little by little I´m starting to get the hang of it (after years of him trying to explain me how it works...he has sooo much patience...)
