Get Wrapped, Baked, and Painted!

There is nothing I like more than a good collaboration and today I am over-the-moon excited to join forces with Emerald Creek, PaperArtsy and Eileen Hull to bring you the Get Wrapped Blog Hop.

This online hop highlights artwork from a large number of artists who have created magic using Eileen's Wrapped Journal die, my paints from PaperArtsy and Baked Texture and other embossing powders from Emerald Creek.

I love the spirit of inclusion here, with multiple companies - from Canada, the UK and the USA -working together. And artists from all three countries as well. These artists were encouraged to go their own way and to use any other products from any other companies that they choose.

Be inspired, learn new techniques, and celebrate the collective talent in this group! Hop along and make sure to check out each and every post. You don't want to miss a thing!

StencilGirl + Emerald Creek = Magic

What do you get when you take 14 helpings of StencilGirl and mix that with 14 helpings of Emerald Creek? Well the answer is magic of course. And one major blog hop and giveaway.

Emerald Creek and StencilGirl are truly a match made in heaven. Both are small, family-owned and run companies. Each has taken a traditional craft product (embossing powder/stencils) and applied their own very special spin.

So come celebrate this pairing by seeing the amazing artwork created by 14 talented artists.  Oh...and did I mention there is a giveaway (scroll down for info)?

Possibility
(sold. thank you)

My contribution to the hop was created using one of my all-time favorite stencils, Creative Halo designed by Pam Carriker. She has 4 stencils in her Halo series and by total synchronicity, my mini circle stencils fit inside the halos, given you many more creative options.

Working on a painted sheet of watercolor paper, I used a sponge to press adhesive from an embossing pad through both the halo portion of Pam's stencil and my Crossed stencil.

My stencil was then embossed with Rocky Road Baked Texture and the squares in the halo were embossed with Deep Sea Baked Texture, Patina Oxide Baked Texture, Rocky Road Baked Texture and Hammered Metal Embossing Powder.

Collage and much mark making were then added to the surface. The word Possibility, from my new Impression Obsession Journal Jargon 5 stamp set was the finishing touch.

Emerald Creek: Recap

It has been a great week, highlighting projects from 5 artists using my Emerald Creek Baked Texture embossing powders. It is always a thrill for me to see how other people use my products in their own unique ways. This group served it up and I wanted to share the links once again in case you missed any the first time around. You can see and order all 7 flavors of Baked Texture here.

The bakery is open!

GUEST ARTISTS

Mary Beth Shaw: Mary Beth, the creative mastermind behind StencilGirl Products, has created  a video that shares 8 techniques to use embossing powders with stencils. Yes...I said 8!

Becca Feeken: Hands down, Becca creates the most elegant artwork I have ever seen and her product collections allow you to do the same. She is sharing 3 finished projects and shares her technique for creating "cracked glass" with embossing powders. Hint: it involves a freezer!

Tammy Tutterow: Tammy takes Baked Texture to a place I hadn't even imagined. She uses the "heat, dip, heat, dip, heat" technique to create the most amazing beads to use as flower centers on her handmade flowers. I can see applying this same technique on my found objects for to my mixed pieces.

Debi Adams: Using all 7 flavors of Baked Texture, Debi has created the coolest, mixed media wall hanging ever made. A huge array of techniques were used but my favorite has to be her combination of Chunky Rust and gel medium - half baked!

Gwen Lafleur: Gwen is a master of all-things-embossing and she has created a texture-lovers delight using all 7 Baked Texture flavors. In the process, she used a ton of techniques - my favorite of which is definitely the High Solid Gel Medium. She even included a video of the process.

It's An Embossing Powder Party

This past January, Baked Texture - my new line of embossing powders for artists - was released by Emerald Creek. Since then, we are doing our very best to get these powders into you creative hands. And it is looking like March will be the month when we are able to get most, if not all, of the outstanding shipments delivered. Thanks to all of you for your passion, enthusiasm, and (especially) patience for this product.

I have begun to see a huge variety of projects online using Baked Texture and have been loving what you have been baking. I have learned many new techniques and uses for the powders thanks to you.

I have invited 5 artists to share projects they have made using Baked Texture. Anything goes with these posts and there will be videos, tutorials, finished artwork and more. Check back here all week for the updated links to the posts that will be appearing daily from today through Friday, March 23rd.

Emerald Creek + StencilGirl Hop and Giveaway

Every so often the stars collide and fireworks ensue. Today is one of those days. Two of my absolute favorite companies - StencilGirl Products and Emerald Creek Craft Supplies are combining forces to bring you a stellar blog hop and giveaway.  Twelve artists are participating and the event starts today (12/13) and runs through 12/15. Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this post to see how you can enter the two giveaways and to find the links to all the participating artists.

DISCOVERY

Two of my favorite products to use are stencils and embossing powder. And I absolutely love using them together. My method...easy.

Simply position the stencil on your surface, press a craft sponge into the surface of an embossing pad, and pounce the sponge through the opening in your stencil. Remove the stencil, tap off any excess powder and heat with a heat gun. Final step...watch the magic happen.

For this piece, I started with an 8x8 inch cradled wood panel and added layer after layer after layer of gesso, paint, collage and ink.

And of course, stencils and embossing powders. For the background, I used an embossing pad, a background stamp (Splattered from Impression Obsession), and two of my favorite flavors of embossing powder from Emerald Creek:

The main focal feature of this piece is a series of words.

To add the text detail, I once again used Emerald Creek Charred Gold Embossing Powder through a series of words (Discovery, Explore, Destiny) from two of my StencilGirl stencils:

The piece was finished off using collage material, hand made marks, and some of my stamp sets from Impression Obsession (RPMs, Planetarium, Pathways).

If you are completely new to using embossing powders, check out my video tutorial from an episode of Make it Artsy. You may discover a new technique even if you are an embossing pro.
