Sometimes I just need to get the sad out

I was sitting here watching "You've Got Mail."
I love romantic comedies.  L.O.V.E. them.
My favorite
 And I was crocheting.....
And I thought....
Today is the first day of Spring! It's the Spring Equinox!
It's the day eggs should stand on end....I tried it....didn't work.
Brooms are supposed to stand on their own.  I tried it.  Mine didn't.
As a matter of fact, my broom handle is bent and I never noticed it before.
And I thought....it just figures.

And I thought....I'm so glad it's spring.....
I hope spring goes better than winter....
but it sure hasn't started out that way.
My eggs won't stand up.
My broom won't stand up.

I try to stay upbeat on this blog, and many times when I post anything bad/sad, I delete it, before too many see it.
It's not a very popular thing to post negative stuff on a blog.
  But here's the deal folks.

Sometimes I just need to get the sad out.

Here is a glimpse of my winter that I never told you about.
Six funeral viewings since November...
Yes SIX.
One lady was 54.
Liver cancer.
People say they come in threes.
They did....Twice.

And My Mother-in-law fell...a few weeks ago
she is 92.
It set her back a lot.
She is still living in a therapy place from the fall.
While living in the therapy place, she decided she wants to move from the assisted living facility (the one she fell at),  to the one she moved from a year ago.
So, I got it all set up for her to move back.
And she changed her mind.
So after giving her a couple of days to make sure, I canceled the move.
Then, she changed her mind again, and decided to move after all.
I RE-set it all up.
It take a lot of time and errands to set this stuff up.

These muffins.....are yummy. My Shug ate several of them today. (hmmm blurry picture.)
After he found out the trip was canceled.
Yup. I made them for a trip to Florida that I was to take.
We were leaving tomorrow.
I was packing last night, when I got a call.
Stop packing,  trip is off.
Lots of plans were made.
Canceled.

Oh...and my Shug...who just went on afternoons three weeks ago.
Got bumped back to days.
Yup, my Shug got bumped.
The end of this month he goes back on days.
Back to getting up at 4:30 in the morning....
going to bed at 8:30-9:00.
Back to dark circles under his eyes all the time.
And then, the straw...
you know the one.
It's the one that breaks the camel's back.
I got a call late this afternoon.
"Cindy, Did you know *a good friend*  is in ICU?
NO!
I know now.
She needs lots of prayers.
I cried.
I'm tired peeps.
Don't feel sorry for me.  I hate that.
I just need to vent.
To get the sad out.

So, I decided...
I'm starting my spring tomorrow.
Spring is my favorite season...and I'm not starting it out this way.
It's going to be better than winter.
It's going to be better than today!

And for now...right now....
I started making a crocheted bag that I was going to make on my Florida trip.
It'll be a Cindy bag.
 I'm not using a pattern.
Phhbbbttt....I don't need no stinking pattern (I hope!)
I'm eating dark chocolate.
I'm drinking beach house wine.
And I am going to count my blessings.
It's been a busy and fun week, amidst all the winter crap.
Tomorrow is another day.
I'll tell you all the good stuff that happened this week...another day.

In the meantime....
let's wish this beautiful young lady a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
My niece, Adrienne!

Born on the first day of Spring!
I hope it is as wonderful as she is.
And let me say...
HAPPY
SPRING!

Cindy Bee

PS.  Thank you Susie, for reminding me about Horton's.  I completely forgot.  I think I'll go.
And I think I'll buy me a boquet of tulips somewhere....
or maybe a pansy or two....
and maybe some ducks....
I'm celebrating Spring-tomorrow!

What I've been doing...

My bees are all snuggled in for the winter. I still have a couple of things to do, which I'll explain later, but for the most part, they are ready. And I didn't have anywhere I HAD to be this week. Besides the grocery store. So I've been practicing making more of these crochet holders. They look easy enough but it's hard to get the circles to look good and the clay even.

And I've been crocheting more flowers like I showed you in a previous post. But I've also been making some out of this Christmas yarn. My first thought was to use it for a Christmas bunting, with the balls in between the flowers and maybe hang it on a tree, or across a mirror, or a picture. But then I thought it might be cute with a pin on the back, worn on a lapel, or a scarf, or a sweater. Or they could be hung on a tree. What to do....

I've also made some more stars and trees. I was wondering, for you crocheters out there, how do you stiffen your motifs? I've never made anything like this before and have heard of several different ways of making them hard so they will hang properly.

Between crafting, and cleaning, a little bit of house painting, and moving winter stuff back from our house we are not moved into yet, (I had to throw that in there) I've been cutting the last of the flowers I grew.

Saving seeds.

and bringing plants indoors.

oh yeah....and decorating for Halloween!

My nieces are planning to come and stay with us this weekend. They haven't stayed all night in ages. Rumor has it, my great niece is coming too.

And now...thoughts from a peri-menopausal woman...(this might become a new feature)

I am OK with winter coming on. I am. For those of you that do not know me, I usually love decorating, entertaining, and the holidays. Spending time with family and friends, creating traditions and keeping up the old ones. And I usually enjoy winter because it's a lot less work! No gardening, no beekeeping, no food preserving, just snuggling in, watching Hallmark or Lifetime and crafting. But last year was not good for me. I have actually had the stomach flu the last two Thanksgivings, and missed out on our traditional festivities. I was sick most of last winter and for a time didn't leave the house for two weeks. Building the house has been a lot of stress. Last year was supposed to be the last year that we were to live in the house we are living in, so I took our winter stuff and our wall decorations and some furniture to the new home. Now I'm bringing the winter stuff back. More stress. But you know what? It's going to be OK. And my house I am living in may not be perfect, but it's got a lot of memories. Good memories. And I do love it here, so I'm going to embrace the holidays, keep with traditions, snuggle in and enjoy the season, because I do believe this will be the last winter at our old loving home. I will cry when I leave this place. It's special.

Edited to add..another thought. Blogger is ticking me off, for obvious reasons....

Unplanned meeting at the Panera...Snow Fatigue!

So...back to the fab store. When Granny Bee got ready to leave, she turned around and pointed her finger at me and said, "Cindy, you need to start enjoying winter. You just need to snuggle in and do some crafts and relax because summer will be here before you know it." Really? Summer will be here before I know it?....Oh good...when? And when I asked if I could take a picture of her pointing that finger at me she said no!

So, I've been thinking...why was last year the best winter ever, (I remember telling someone that) and this one is not so fun? Well, the weather lady said everyone has "Snow Fatigue" this year. It's a new term they made up. She said we've had a foot more snow already this year than what we usually have all season. And we haven't seen the sun in days. The only other thing I can think of right now is the fact that I'm not getting out much with friends. Oh I'm getting out... library, bank, grocery store... but I'm not getting out and laughing and having fun with friends. Every now and then a persons gotta get out.

I happened to check my e-mail this morning, and there was one from TH (Places Where Grace Is blogspot) asking me if I'd like to meet her and the Queen (Queen of Whatever blogspot) for lunch TODAY. I didn't know if I could make it. I already had appointments... a mammogram, the bank, the car wash, and I was going out tonight with my Dad and Sister and I had to dress up. I e-mailed back and told her I would try, depends on how long I'm at the Women's Ctr. (please pray for a clean mammo. I've had lumps before, so I get nervous about them.)

But make it, I did. And I had fun. I laughed and laughed. Do you know that laughter is good for the soul? It's also good for Snow Fatigue! It was especially funny when the Queen sort of sloshed coffee on TH's computer (it was closed) and she started grabbing napkins and wiping up coffee furiously..before TH saw her. But I think she kind of did it on purpose. You see, the Queen, being the Queen, is not used to being bossed around by people who just, well you know, live in the village. And at one point during lunch, TH asked the Queen to go get her some coffee! Yikes! I said nary a word. The queen and I exchanged looks. You know the one. The surprised wrinkled forehead big eye look!
But then, she did go get the coffee. I dunno....

(did you know you can put your digital camera up to a mirror - say like in your bathroom - and you can see the "view window" in the mirror?)

And I kind of think TH might have some symptoms of Snow Fatigue. She wanted me to have a new background for my blog, but she certainly made no secret of the fact that she did not like anything I was picking out. And when I first opened my computer and handed it to her, she pushed it back and said, "here, SIGN ON."

Um okay...

Now, no one told me it was show and tell day, but luckily I had the foresight to grab a couple of grannies before I left the house.

Queen: It's too loose, what size are you using, you need a 5.5
Me: Well, I think it's a G.
Queen: What's the number?
Me: No number...just a G.
Queen: There's gotta be a number. It's gonna stretch out way too much when you put it on the bed. Use a 5.5
Me: I'll check for a number when I get home, but I can't use a smaller needle on that blue yarn. It's really big yarn.
Queen: I think you can (Snow Fatigue?).

later...at home...the only numbers I see on it is 45c (tee hee)

Then TH takes out her fingerless mitts that she made. I didn't get a picture of them, but maybe she'll post them on her blog if we ask her nicely. Then she hands me a bag and says, "here, this is for you."
"For me?"
"wow I love it."
"I want you to roll it on your mechanical winder."
"ooooh okaaay. It's not really FOR me. I get it."

I think the Queen was a little offended at this because she wanted to know what was wrong with the way her Assistant makes yarn balls. Then TH got all nervous when I started talking about how I hope my dog doesn't pee on it, he has you know...peed on my yarn. Then I said I might try making a granny square or two with it on a 5.5 hook before I give it back! I was cracking myself up. I really was.

Then it was the Queen's turn. Ahem....as if we didn't notice the hat on her head already...she only commented on it several times. She even mentioned that she thought several people at Panera were looking at it. Really? Do you think..

She really didn't want me to show this picture because the hat looks like a big bubble...kind of full...but it wasn't at all. She informed us she had to alter the pattern to fit her micro-sized head. Her exact words. She didn't say it in a pompous queen sort of way, just in a matter-of-fact way. What she didn't hear me say, because everyone was talking at once was, "hmmm, that reminds me of the time I was with a friend who asked, "do these jeans make my butt look too SMALL!" Yes folks, my friend really did say that. Thirty years ago. I never forgot it. I quit hanging with her. She wouldn't say it now... ahem...just sayin'....

Oh my gosh, this lady just said dammittohell on the Hallmark Channel. I thought only my family said that word! really? That's a nationally known word?

Anyway, my time was cut short because my Shug called. He came home from work sick today. He's still sick. He's already called in to work tomorrow. Poor guy. Then my Dad got here and we were getting ready to leave. He told me he felt like he was going to throw up, and he was real tired. I said, "maybe you better go home." He said he'd like to. So much for going out with Dad and Sis tonight. I stayed home. And I looked outside a few minutes ago and this is what I see....
