I named myself The Crafting Professor, since I'm a crafter, and I'm a college professor. I went through many, many years of graduate school, and the best source of relaxation and stress relief was being in my craft room or going to a local crop. Back then, I never told anyone that I was a full-time graduate student. I was waiting for the day I would scrapbook my graduation page. Now, I run the ScrapbookerPhD challenge blog (http://scrapbookerphd.blogspot.com), and am bringing my passion for crafting and teaching together. But here, at The Crafting Professor, I'm just sharing my work with like-minded crafters from all over the world.

Movie Time

Project 21 of my Simply Betty Stamps Challenge: Color every image in the Simply Betty Collection. That's over 500 images not including the new releases this year. I'm doing the happy dance because I am past 20 images. I'm still very motivated, but I have a long way to go, especially with a brand new line of images and some re-releasing of retired images. I can't wait to color the new Geishas. Come join my blog and cheer me on while I work my way through the Simply Betty Catalog.

I was 100% motivated by Kit and Clowder's Movie themed challenge. This Movie Time Betty is perfect for this challenge. I colored her using my Copics. When putting her together, I wanted to keep with the movie "theme" but I also wanted to make the card as a congratulations card, so I added the "you're a star" sentiment (or a play on a movie star), so I used the star patterned paper in the background, four glitter stars, and a movie production sign (3D sticker).

I was also excited about this because I love movies, and I have a few movie buddies not including my husband who LOVES movies. This weekend, I'm going to see both Cinderella and The Lazarus Effect. Can't wait!!!

Faraway Friends

I am so excited to share this project with you. Have you met crafting friends through your blogs and challenges and online communities? I have, and many of my new friends live all over the world. I made this card with specific new friends in mind. Obviously, they live in Australia. I met many of these talented ladies while taking classes through Kit and Clowder

To create this card, I started with the map of Australia. It is cut from the Australia bundle in my Cricut Design Space. I inked the edges with a distressed blue so that the white wasn't too sharp. The camera is a stamp from the set Framed by The Alley Way Stamps. I used my Copics to color the camera and picked up the blue from the map. It is also inked around the edge. The sentiment is from the Capture the Good Times stamp set from Craftin' Desert Divas.

Challenges Entered:
Left of Center: Use your Dies
Sister Act Challenge: AG
Crafting for all Seasons: Dies
Paper Minutes: Journey

Rock Star

I'm still working my way through my New Year's Crafting resolution: all about coloring!
I want to be able to apply for certification in coloring through Spectrum Noir and Copics by next year.

Today I am showcasing a Kraftin' Kimmie image, Rocker Chick. I love Kraftin' Kimmie stamps because they ink really well for a crisp image.

My inspiration came from a challenge at Kit and Clowder, an online community of crafters that take classes from Kit and Clowder. My inspiration for this challenge was based on the encouragement we get from the Kit and Clowder community. This card is for a special young girl who has a celebration coming up.

To create this card, I started with coloring using my Copics:
Skin: E000, E11, E21, E00, R20
Hair: V000, V01, V04, V06
Guitar: C0, C3, C5, C7
Dress: BG11, BG13, BG15

I stamped the stars around her from a stamp in the set Enchanted by The Alley Way Stamps, and colored them with glitter pens.

The glittery music notes are from Jolee's Boutique.

Challenge Entered:
Crafty Catz: For a Special Lady
Red Rubber Inspirational: Let's Hear it for the Girl

Before and After... Tequila

With my New Year's Crafting Resolution underway, I thought I would share a little bit of my progress with you. My goals for the year are to become color certified in both Spectrum Noir and Copic markers. To reach my goals, I am taking coloring classes at Kit and Clowder

It's been only a short time, but WOW do I see progress.

Let's take a look at this card that I made today. In actuality, I "re-made" this card by coloring the worm again. I wanted the worm to have more depth and shading and the sombrero to look aged. I added a bit of glitter on the sombrero and around the worm. I also added some liquid pearls and a sentiment from Paper Smooches, Free Spirits stamp set.

Now, let's look at the "before." The worm is so flat. There is no dimension or shading. The sombrero is very bright and the colors are bleeding across the page. While I do like to have some shadow under the image, this was overkill - a murky gray smear of color. While the cup was a nice touch, it crowded the image. Plus, I got glitter EVERYWHERE trying to create "salt" at the top of the glass.

I have to thank Alyce from Kit and Clowder because it is her classes in coloring that are really making the difference. Want to enhance your coloring, check out Kit and Clowder.  You won't be disappointed.
