...they be tryin to figure out if baby got back.
A Charlotte mother is expressing concern after a class assignment she considers offensive was given to high school students. Some say it has racial undertones.
“I was completely stunned,” the mother said. “This is not appropriate language at all for the children in the school.”
The question was from a test on genetics.
"LaShamanda has a heterozygous big bootie, the dominant trait. Her man Fontavius has a small bootie which is recessive. They get married and have a baby named LaPrincess" the biology assignment prompts students.
The assignment then continues to ask, "What is the probability that LaPrincess will inherit her mama's big bootie?"
Ardrey Kell High is what is euphemistically known as an inner city school. There's no indication of the race of the teacher who originally came up with the worksheet, or even the teacher who used it in this case.

Meanwhile, Here In Indian Trail, NC....
...we have some indoctrination going on at the high school:
Is the faith of most Muslims “stronger” than that of the typical Christian? That’s what one public high school in North Carolina apparently is teaching students.
Outraged over the “correct” answers to her son’s ninth-grade assignment about Islam, a mother in Union County, N.C., turned to local news reporters to shed light on his school’s fill-in-the-blank worksheet.
Upsetting the mom most? A statement that read, “Most Muslims’ faith is stronger than the average Christian.”
I also note with amusement that in line 2C of the worksheet, the teacher uses the word "remerge" incorrectly; (s)he meant re-emerge.

Meanwhile, In U.K....
...schoolchildren were threatened with a black mark on their permanent records if they failed to attend a "mandatory" field trip on Islam.
Dear Parent/Carer,
As part of the National Religious Education Curriculum together with the multicultural community in which we live, it is a statutory requirement for Primary School aged children to experience and learn about different cultures.
The workshop is at Staffordshire University and will give your child the opportunity to explore other religions.
Children will be looking at religious artefacts similar to those that would be on display in a museum. they will not be partaking in any religious practices.
Refusal to allow your child to attend this trip will result in a Racial Discrimination note being attached to your child’s education record, which will remain on this file throughout their school career.
As such our expectations are that all children in years 4 and 6 attend school on Wednesday 27th November to take part in this trip. All absences on this day will be investigated for their credibility and will only be sanctioned with a GP sick note.
If you would like to discuss this further please contact our RE Coordinator, Mrs Edmonds.
After "discussing it further" with the local Member of Parliament and the town council, the school walked it back.

Sanity Returning
"Seeing the Toll, Schools Revise Zero Tolerance."
Long overdue. Hope it applies to such acts as carrying a Swiss Army Knife to school, keeping aspirin in the purse, chewing a dessert into a gun shape, etc.

First He Wanted To Spread the Wealth Around...
...now he wants to spread the school expulsions around in the same sort of fashion.
President Barack Obama is backing a controversial campaign by progressives to regulate schools’ disciplinary actions so that members of major racial and ethnic groups are penalized at equal rates, regardless of individuals’ behavior.
His July 26 executive order established a government panel to promote “a positive school climate that does not rely on methods that result in disparate use of disciplinary tools.”
“African Americans lack equal access to highly effective teachers and principals, safe schools, and challenging college-preparatory classes, and they disproportionately experience school discipline,” said the order, titled “White House Initiative On Educational Excellence.”
Expulsion quotas.
*shakes head in disgust*
I guess his next big idea will be to spread justice around, so he'll advocate arrest quotas and jail time for whites because blacks are disproportionately sent to prison.

They're Made In China, Now
Just like most everything else is, these days. I refer to Official Cub Scout Knives, and Official Boy Scout Knives. I recently picked up a sample of the Cub Scout Knife off of eBay for $20.
Pic:
Fit and finish on this Chinese-made knife are excellent. Right out of the box I noticed that the leather punch didn't close properly, and required a little bending to allow it to slip inside properly, but I've seen the same from US-manufactured knives. Blades are all stainless steel rather than carbon steel, saddening to an old-timer like me who grew up with knives that developed a patina with use. Handle scales are dyed bone, and the Cub Scout logo inletted into the scale appears to be brass or bronze. The main blade came with the same sort of utility edge these knives have always been shipped with, even from the US factories; a few strokes on an A. G. Russell crock stick and the blade was hair-popping sharp.
The Chinese seem to have problems getting the bottle openers on these sort of knives correct, mainly getting the catch hook curved and pointed enough to catch on a bottle cap; I have three Chinese-made knives with bottle openers: this one, a Boy Scout pattern made for Kissing Crane, and another Boy Scout pattern made for Rough Rider, and all three have crappy bottle openers. On this Cub Scout knife I used a round diamond hone to re-shape the catch hook to make it easier to open bottles, although I may have taken too much metal off. We'll see.
A well-made knife for one of today's Cub Scouts. If I myself regret that the knives aren't made in the US any more, young scouts of today probably won't even notice, since anything associated with patriotism isn't taught any longer in US public schools (and the boy couldn't carry his knife into school any more without being arrested as a dangerous criminal).
Just...sad, when you think about it. Good knife, though.

You Can't Make This Stuff Up
Um...er...well, perhaps you can.
CHAPEL HILL UNC-Chapel Hill trustees, briefed Thursday on the academic fraud uncovered in the African and Afro-American Studies department, asked pointed questions about accountability in the university’s academic operations.
Trustee chairman Wade Hargrove described the findings in UNC-CH’s recent internal investigation as “major indiscretions that raise serious questions of unprofessional and unethical conduct.”
Hargrove said he read the report with a mixture of “disappointment and dismay and outrage.”
“Academic freedom is not to be confused with academic irresponsibility or academic fraud,” Hargrove said. “We all know the difference.”
Several trustees asked about checks and balances and how courses with little or no supervision from professors could have gone undetected for years.
How about Because you collectively thought you'd be called racist if you expressed reservations about the situation?

She's Good At That Biology Stuff
Out in California (where else), a 31-year-old science teacher has been suspended after her middle-school students found out about her sideline as a porn actress.
Imagine that you are a 12-year-old boy in middle school, casually searching the Internet when your parents are out to a PTA meeting or a movie date when you stumble upon pornographic material of your science teacher.
Awkward.
That is exactly what happened when students in Oxnard, Calif. discovered X-rated videos of their science teacher online, The Smoking Gun reports.
Stacie Halas, a 31-year-old teacher at Richard B. Haydock Intermediate School, was suspended after administrators learned about her extracurricular activities.
Halas is seen in several videos performing a wide array of sexual acts under the name “Tiffany Six.”
And you can Google Tiffany Six and get some interesting results, although I didn't go to any of the video sites, not being familiar with them. The descriptions in the Google Search results were graphic enough.
