Neighborhood Services

Today Nick and I left Logan with a {non family, non church nursery} baby-sitter for the first time!
We used a high school girl in the neighborhood that comes highly recommended from some other moms on our street. As far as I can tell, she and Logan did great! Excited to have another sitter when we need one!

Nick's and my date was kind of lame, but it was fun to spend some time together just the two of us! I guess we could have gone to a movie or something, but originally I was going to run some errands and Nick and my brother were going to go to Cabela's. Their Cabela's trip ended up getting postponed and we already had the sitter, so Nick decided to just come with me.

We had lunch at Patrizio which is always delish! Then we ran a few errands, including a trip to the grocery store. Nothing like a date to Kroger to keep your marriage fresh. Watch out!

Krogering together brought back memories of days of yore. It's silly, but grocery shopping was always something we did together on the weekends pre-kid. It was like a flashback to be at the store together, just the two of us. Now I typically go during the week, or one of us will go and the other stays home with Logi.

Anyway, it wasn't very exciting but we had a lot of fun together! I enjoyed hanging out just the two of us.

This afternoon this flyer was in our mailbox.
I love the Sharpie mark outs on the time slots. Understandably, they had to be clear about their availability. The second page had all their contact info and a "competitive price list that fits any budget" for other pet services. These kids don't mess around!

Nick and I joke that we've moved into a neighborhood full of tiny entrepreneurs. I swear, anything you could ever want done, from dog treat baking to bicycle and car washing to reptile sitting (yes REPTILE sitting!), there is a man for the job in this 'hood. And I think that's great!!! I intend to fully support their money making efforts. Child labor teaches many a valuable lesson. Maybe someday one of these businesses will be entrusted to Logan.

And speaking of-- for Christmas I got a new iPhone. As I was switching things over I came across these pictures on my old phone. Looking at them seriously makes my heart hurt. How did a year go so fast??? What happened to this snuggly, squeaky little guy?
He's turned into a Toms wearing toddler is what happened!
My friends in Stroller Strides give me a hard time about Logan's shoe collection. He does have an awful lot of shoes. I usually find them on sale and stock up on different sizes. Since I can't do bows and headbands, shoes are the next best accessory!

I also wanted to share a picture, I changed out the throw pillows on our bed. I had those orange fall looking ones and the multi colored chevron before. What do you think about the white for winter? It looks very soothing to me. I like it! It's hard to tell in the pic but the pillows have the prettiest gold stitching on them.
I had these on the couch originally, but found some different brighter ones at Pier One's after Christmas sale I like better.

O Bring Us A Figgy Pudding

Okay so I know that Logan isn't old enough to really "get" Christmas, but I will tell you- we had SO MUCH FUN this year!!!!! He was really excited about all his new toys and had great fun playing with all his cousins, aunts & uncles, grandparents, great grandparents... We had the best Christmas, and I hope you did too!

Here are some pictures from our Christmas festivities.

On Christmas Eve we were just lazy!  We lounged around the house and played with Logi. I stayed in my pajamas until 2:30, which was spectacular.

We went to 4:00 Candlelight service with Al & Teri. Then we put on our PJs back on (b/c apparently, we can't be bothered with wearing clothes on Christmas Eve in our family) and had our traditional homemade ravioli and cannoli dinner at their house and Christmas presents.
This kid LOVES to eat. Imagine that.
{Eating something else}
No we didn't hire a waiter to serve dinner, that's just A. Sal and his vino!
Logan's first time eating the homemade ravis! He was a fan.
Toys are much more fun when you're sitting in a wicker basket.

We went home and put Logan to bed. Then, Nick and I got busy helping Santa assemble toys.

We kept Christmas simple. Between all the grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, great aunts & uncles, second cousins etc. that buy for him... this kid isn't hurting for a single thing! Santa brought Logan a Little People pirate ship he can ride and push, a wooden activity cube, some books, stickers, and cars in his stocking.

On Christmas morning we all slept until 8:30, which was the greatest gift of all! It was dark and rainy and such a lazy morning! I brought Logi downstairs, and Nick carried him over to see what Santa left!

EXCITED FOR NEW TOYS!!!!

Again, I know he doesn't "get" it, but he was seriously so excited and interested in his new toys. It was awesome!
Around 10:00 we headed over to my mom's for Christmas Day brunch and gifts. Love this tradition!

Then, we made the trek south to Nanny's house in Cleburne that afternoon.

BRRR!!! It was COLD!

And of course we came home to....
It didn't snow a drop in Cleburne. I was sad we missed the snow!

We had such a wonderful Christmas. Some of Logan's "big" gifts this year were-- a tent with a tunnel from Pa & Scat, a red Radio Flyer wagon from Mimi, a water table from Uncle JG, and a really cute toy box from Grammy and Grandpa.

Small Potatoes & Important Stuff

So my car got broken into yesterday!
With Nick's help, I managed to get everything done on my to-do list so I decided to go for a run before our Christmas festivities. Logan and I drove to the park I usually run at a few miles from our house. I parked and was unloading Logan, and I noticed there was this lady kind of acting weird near by. Nothing so unusual you would call the police or anything, but she was just kind of walking around and gave me a generally uneasy feeling. There were other people around so I really didn't think much of it. At one point she asked me, "Will he fall asleep in that stroller?" A perfectly ordinary question, and I have no proof she was even the one who did it but I'm telling you, my gut said something wasn't right about that lady.

So we went for our run- a really, good long run in fact. And Logi did go to sleep, which is highly unusual! I was feeling great!
And then, as I was coming down the hill to leave, I saw a police car parked behind my car. Right away I knew my car had been broken into. And sure enough! Mine and one other car. They took Logan's diaper bag and my wallet =( Nick came, we filled out the police report, cancelled all my cards, etc. etc.

Will it be a hassle to replace all my cards, my DL and two car windows? Sure. But luckily Nick's off work so I have a lot of help.

Am I super annoyed everything in my diaper bag is gone? Of course. And go figure, I was carrying $250 cash (!!) which I NEVER do and two brand new tubes of lipstick.

But at the end of the day it's not worth getting upset or worked up about. Everything is replaceable. A month or six weeks from now my life won't be any different. Pity the fool whose life is so messed up they have to break into cars to get money and Mac lipstick.

I guess the real gut check is- when I was driving (Nick's truck) home I started to get a little mad (DANG IT I HAD A LOT OF STUFF IN THAT DIAPER BAG!) and then thought to myself, "There are 26 people in Connecticut who don't have their loved ones this Christmas. I don't have my diaper bag and wallet. Ehh- it's fine."

Small potatoes, as they say.

After that debacle was over, we got showered and changed and headed over to Pa and Scat's for Christmas! And PS I thought about carrying a plastic Target sack as a diaper bag just for effect, but I didn't =)

Here are some pictures of our Christmas gathering. So much fun! So blessed! So very loud and wild and wonderful with 18 of my most loved!
"I'll have a BLUUUUEEE Christmas!"
The boys LOVED the reindeer antlers. Hehe
Boys & moms (and Edilio playing his video games)
Boys & grandmas who don't look like grandmas at all!
A rare pic of us two- my love!
OMG- really Nick and Rusty. Niiiice.
I think they're ready for a couple of kids!
UNCLE!
The classiest Christmas gift of all!
Let the mayhem begin!!

I was thinking... how cool is it that Pa and Scat have done this not only with their kids, but with us grandkids and now they're getting to do it all over again with a third round of their great grand babies?? I can only pray Nick and I would be so blessed!

May your Christmas be merry and bright!

Holly Days

Here is something you never learned in Sunday School.
Did you know, along with Mary and Joseph and the three wise men and the angels and the shepherds and all the manger animals, there was an Alaskan Husky at Jesus's birth?
No, I didn't either. Thanks to the Little People Advent Calendar I am now aware. You never stop learning no matter how old you are.

Also, in an unlikely twist of events and sheer fate I watched A Very Brady Christmas!!! A blog friend, Summer, sent me a FB message that it was on ABC Family late the other night. I set the DVR and Friday morning Logi and I stayed in our pajamas and cuddled and watched the Brady greatness.
I'm not sure what won the Academy Award in 1988, but my money is not on Brady Christmas. Wow... I don't know why I loved that movie so much as a kid. I hadn't seen it in probably 10 or 15 years, but still to this day I remembered almost every line in the movie. It's an unfortunate use of brain space I'll tell you that much. I think I'll scratch that tradition off my list. It was fun to watch though!

Pops has been in town visiting, he left on Thursday night. Pops and Logi had lots of fun playing, especially in the truck he bought for Logan's birthday.

Earlier in the week our friends Robert, Allyson and Luke had us a small group of us over for a delicious holiday dinner!
They went all out with the most beautiful table setting and a fantastic meal! They are truly the hostesses with the mostess! It was a fun night!

Boys in a cage.

Nick has the next two weeks off of work! I'm SO excited about that!!! Last night we went to Southlake Townsquare to see Santa! What fun!

Is it just me or does it look like Logan and I are superimposed on this background?

Logan did EXACTLY what we predicted he would do with Santa. He just turned and started at him, with that open mouthed, unimpressed Logi Bear Stare. No fear, but also not too impressed. He's a tough critic that kid!
Taking him to see Santa made me giddy just thinking about all the years of Christmas fun that lie ahead!!!

Tonight we went to the Gregory's Christmas party. Fun night with lots of our favorite people!
"BARTENDER!!"

(If you didn't notice in the last two pictures I've been experimenting with red lipstick. So out of my comfort zone, but fun for the holidays.)

Tomorrow we kick off our Christmas festivities at Pa & Scat's house!!! I will probably be cooking and wrapping presents right up until we leave tomorrow afternoon. We are lucky to have so much family nearby, but we also have A LOT of people to buy for! I think it was 24 people at last count! I have been really behind this year, both on shopping and gift wrapping. I usually have this done way in advance, but not this year. Between our trip to California and the birthday party and who knows what else, I have been behind! I think next year I should start shopping and wrapping in October.

***A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY***
