30th Birthday Bonanza

I'm not sure how I did it, but I landed the best husband on the planet.
This guy pulled off planning and surprising me with the most wonderful 30th birthday party ever!!! He snuck around and got lots of my friends email addresses and sent out an Evite over six weeks ago. I'm told he has been sending out reminders, updates, and all sorts of sneaky communications right underneath my nose.

He coordinated with my mom to get the cake and decorations.
I cannot get over that cake!!!!! LOVED IT!!!!!
There was even confetti on the table that said Chelsea!
He arranged for Al and Teri to bring a well dressed Logan to the party and then baby-sit that night.
Jenny came in town from Austin on the premise that she was going to a couple's shower on Saturday night and staying out in Dallas. She and Nick had this whole plan that included her HIDING clothes underneath one of our guest beds so that I would think she had left for the weekend!!!!
I think the hiding clothes was all her doing, but she and Nick had a legit, totally believable story. I totally bought it!!!
Love this picture of Jenny, by the way.

And it's worth pointing out- if it wasn't for Jenny, I probably would have showed up to my surprise party in jeans, a casual shirt, fall boots and my hair in a pony tail. I thought we were meeting some work friends of Nick's for dinner, and that's what I was planning to wear.

Jenny told Nick he needed to be sure I dressed up and wore the dress I had bought to wear Wednesday night, on my actual birthday. So then as I was getting dressed Nick said, "The other wives will probably be pretty dressed up. We were planning to go get drinks somewhere nice after dinner. You should wear this dress!"

I owe ya big time for that one Jenny ;-D

A few of the people who made my party so special:

After dinner we went to Bar Louie on West 7th for drinks and dancing. What a fun, fun, fun way to celebrate a new decade. Thank you, Nick and my friends and fam for pulling this off and wonderful night!!!! I was definitely surprised!!!

We Must've Been Robbed

If I'd seen these pictures of my house a year ago, my eyes would have popped out of their sockets in disbelief and I would have asked, "My gosh, did we get robbed or something???"

A year ago I would never, ever have left to go somewhere with my house looking like this. Truth be told, I would probably have arrived late to work rather than walk out and leave my house in such disarray. But these days... {hushed voice} my house sometimes looks like this for days at a time. And what's even crazier is, it doesn't bother me.

I don't know what's come over me since having Logan. It's like I'm a shell of my former self. I suspect they put a little something extra in my epidural. I flat out don't care about messes and keeping everything in perfect order anymore.

That, and I'm busy chasing this guy. He is into E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G!

This morning, in a matter of seconds, I looked and he was crawling out of the shower with a door stopper cap in his mouth. What?

Sure, I prefer the house to be picked up and orderly with a candle burning, but most days it's just not. Toys are often scattered around the living room and playroom and don't get picked up before we go to bed. Shoes now find themselves in piles by the garage door. Clean laundry sometimes sits on the couch unfolded and we occasionally have to fetch a clean pair of socks out of the dryer (My former self is REALLY shaking her head at that one)! The dishes aren't always put away, and for some odd reason I can't really explain- this morning my bath towel was draped across a kitchen chair.
It's the season of life we're in and I'm strangely- unusually- okay with it.

I find this attitude bleeding over into my way of parenting as well. It's odd. I would even go so far as to describe my parenting style (with the exception of Logan's sleep schedule) as laid back.

"Shut the front door!" my former self gasps.

It's funny how you think you know exactly what you're getting and God sneaks all kinds of other gifts and opportunities to round out your rough edges in that 8 lb 9 oz bundle of joy.

The other day in fact, my mom was telling me that the way I am as a mom has surprised her. "I knew you'd me a good mom," she was saying. "But I just figured you'd be a whole lot more... uptight or something."

Truth be told, I've surprised myself as well. Don't misunderstand. It's not that I don't ever worry or feel stressed or uptight, because of course I do. I'm human. I just worry and feel stressed and uptight wayyyyyy less than I used to.

Anyway- all this to say- my house has looked like a tornado hit it since Sunday night and finally this afternoon I was like, I have got to tackle this! Logan was napping and secretly, all I wanted to do was eat a dang chocolate chip cookie and watch Ellen.

But I forced myself. I did that old trick I used to use on my students where I set a timer. I'm not joking, I really did this. I told myself, "I'm gonna see how much I can get done in 30 minutes!" And I tricked myself into getting the whole house picked up (mostly) in thirty minutes. Then I sat down with my cookie and watched Ellen.

Also today, Logan and I met our friends Melissa & Jackson and Allyson & Luke for lunch and a little fall baby clothes shopping. Old Navy is having a sale on baby clothes, and I had a coupon that was about to expire for Carter's. We found some good deals on basics and play clothes for the boys.

This afternoon I am thankful to have made such good mom friends through Stroller Strides and that motherhood has mellowed me out quite a lot. And for chocolate chip cookies and Ellen.

First Hair Cut

Tonight after Nick got home from work we took Logan to get his first hair cut. Typical first time parents, we documented the entire thing. It was a big deal to us!

Playing on the train table with dad while we waited.

This picture is so cute! Nick loved that he was so interested in the monster truck. I also love how Logan is standing!

His hair wasn't super long or anything but it just need to be shaped up. We've gotta keep him high & tight for those days when he feels like sporting a fohawk. Plus, his hair had gotten a little long over his ears and in the back his rat tail had sprouted a few more baby rat tails. I've been tempted to cut those rat tails off many a time but have resisted. This was the first time scissors ever touched his hair.
Fire truck- cool!
This was the point, when they put the cape on him, where I thought about maybe tearing up- because how is he this BIG??? How is my baby old enough for a hair cut???- but I resisted. The lady cutting hair at the station behind Logan's kept going on and on and on and on about her sugar gliders, so that kind of killed the mood.

He was SOOO good while the lady cut his hair. He sat shockingly still, only turning his head every once in a while to try and figure out what the heck that lady was doing to him, and just ate his puffs and watched Barney on the TV.

She was even able to shave his neck and side burns which was HILARIOUS. Such a little gentleman!

Those People

Do you dress up to match your kids on Halloween? I mean is that like, a thing?

I've been wondering because I feel like I've heard some people mention it in passing, and Nick and I definitely were not planning on dressing up like anything, let alone to match Logan. Now that we're parents is this something we need to rethink? Do lots of people do this?

I saw this picture in one of my catalogues, and it made me laugh. On the one hand getting matching PJs seems far more practical than all of us getting in themed costumes and parading around our neighborhood.
On the other hand- um could you SEE Nick Salomone wearing something like this??? Because no, no he would not ever.

Yesterday I met my sorority sister Falon at North Park Mall. We walked around and took the babies to a story/song time at the mall library. Are you kidding me a mall library???? Put those two hands together of my all time favorite things. For all the years I've been going to North Park I had no idea such a place existed.

There was singing and dancing and scarf waving aplenty, but it was really cute. Logan and Olivia seemed to enjoy it. They're both pretty laid back babies, they're more casual observers than the overly excited types, but I think they liked it. I definitely want to take Logi back.
After baby time we ended up having an impromptu belated birthday lunch for Falon at The Zodiac Room. Her neighbor Candice joined us too! So much fun!
Trying pickles for the first time. Logan made the most awful, twisted up face every time he took a bite but he seemed to love it. Weird. Olivia is soooo cute!

The babies were so, so good during lunch except....
Oops!! We were so THOSE people. Once upon a time in my Souper Salad waitressing days I used to hate people like us. All we could do was pick up what we could, tip well, and scurry outta there with our heads ducked. Love how they both took off one shoe!! Babies- 1 Neiman's- 0
Looking at all the pretties after lunch. (And trying to take off that pesky shoe again.)

This afternoon we went to a Stroller Strides family BBQ over at Isaac & Bethany's house. I made Erin's chicken enchilada dip and peanut butter cookies with Rolos candy inside (Pinterest of course). It was fun seeing everyone outside of class and meeting a lot of the husbands.
Logan hanging out with his buddies Luke and Jackson

The Daddy Diaper Bag

Natalie is out of town so David brought Grace over to his brother's house with this nifty little diaper bag because he couldn't find her real one. Ta Ta Ta. Ta Ta Ta. (That's the sound of awkward silence.) Oh dads, gotta love 'em. They try so hard. =D

More friends! Gracie and Shannon, Heather and Leo

Logan has started taking steps when he's pushing toys this week. So fun!! Nick requested I find something more manly for him to push before taking this pic, but I'm training him young. "Uh oh Logan!! Where is baby's diaper bag? You left it at home! Oh no!"

Our sweet friends Allyson, Robert & Luke

And look at my blondie! No chance Nick can claim this awesome!
