Over the weekend Nick and I had a much needed getaway! We joked it was a Mother's Day/Father's Day/Anniversary/Babymoon celebration. In reality, it was just us sleeping, eating and doing a whole lot of nothing, which was FANTASTIC!!!
We planned it about three weeks in advance and had the hardest time finding any where to stay. We wanted to stay close by and looked at a few options like Rough Creek Lodge, The Inn on Lake Granbury and a couple of hotels, but everything was booked. We didn't take into account it was TCU and SMU graduation weekend, plus apparently a lot of weddings too. I ended up posting something on a Facebook group I'm in, and a local travel agent contacted me and mentioned the Joule Hotel in Downtown Dallas. My hairdresser Evan had actually mentioned this hotel to me also.
We had never used a travel agent, but it ended up being awesome! Not only did she take care of booking everything including our spa appointments (at no additional cost to us), she got us a slightly discounted room rate, a $100 hotel voucher and free breakfast. I know who to call next time we're planning a trip!
So we got to Dallas on Friday evening and had a casual dinner at one of out old favorites, The Porch on Knox-Henderson. It was just as good as we remembered! We finished dinner around 8:30, and being the crazy, exciting people we are decided to just check into the hotel and call it a night.
The Joule is a really cool hotel situated smack dab in the middle of Downtown with a super modern, eclectic vibe. It reminds me of a cross between Aria in Las Vegas and a hotel called The Hudson my mom and I stayed in in New York City. There were lots of guys strutting around in blazers, pants and loafers with no socks, and pinkie rings if you can picture that. Also, I noticed a handful of well dressed, starving artist/ Earnest Hemingway types positioned around with laptops and leather man purses who looked like they hadn't slept in a few days. A very interesting crowd for sure!
To be honest, it wasn't exactly our style- if we had had more options I think we both would have picked something more quiet and low key, but it really is a super nice hotel. All we cared about was hanging out together and lots of r&r, and we were definitely able to accomplish both so it was great!
Saturday consisted of four things for me: eating, sleeping, going to the spa and reading. It was a tough day! Ha!
The spa was outstanding! Nick got a massage, and I got the prenatal package which included a body scrub (didn't sound that appealing, but it was actually awesome) and the best prenatal massage I've ever had. I feel like a lot of times prenatal massages are just kind of ehh, but they had this whole cocoon set up for you to lie in and the massage was fantastic. I'm pretty sure I haven't felt that relaxed or comfortable in the past two months.
Afterward they have a relaxation room and an area with a pool connected to the spa. Nick went upstairs to take a nap, and I posted up on this cot type thing that elevated your head and feet. I laid there reading my second book of the weekend and drinking hot tea for a couple of hours after my massage. Oh! And at one point a lady came by and asked if she could order lunch for me. Yes please!! Seriously, I could have stayed in that exact spot from now until the baby gets here. It was FAN-TASTIC!
Under normal circumstances I probably would have been upstairs sitting out by the pool at some point and had a list of fun things I wanted us to check out around the city. I keep joking with Nick, I seriously must have Lyme Disease or some type of syndrome to be concerned about because I just have zero energy lately. Given a choice, I will sleep every time! According to my friends who post about Plexus on Facebook, I have all the signs of chromium deficiency and need to order some Plexus Slim STAT! Nick just rolls his eyes and says he's pretty sure I'm just 8.5 months pregnant with our third kid, but listen- you never know! I don't remember ever being so tired in my life!!
That night [after a nice long nap following the rigorous spa activities] we did manage to pull ourselves together and head out to dinner. We went to THE most delicious Mexican restaurant Nick had heard about at work called Mr. Mesero. It was definitely a Dallas hot spot, and I can see why! We sat in an open doorway by the patio and both enjoyed every morsel of our dinner. It was another highlight of the weekend for sure.
After dinner we drove over to a chocolatier I had seen that the baby really wanted to try called Chocolate Secrets. We enjoyed a couple of truffles on their patio (and they had wine and live Jazz music inside), except for the fact that some sort of essential oil meeting was being held at the table next to us, so Nick made sure we ducked out of there quick before I got tangled up in that. I won't lie- I probably would have if we'd stayed even five more minutes.
Then it was back to my comfee clothes and my book while Nick watched a movie. BEST!
The next morning we were pretty sure we couldn't eat a single other thing, but the call for breakfast on the patio at Breadwinners was far too strong. This was another regular spot for us back in the Dallas days of yore. Best brunch spot & breakfast food ever!
We had such a great weekend!! I absolutely loved doing nothing with my favorite guy! Every time we get away just the two of us we wonder why we don't do it more often (kids, oh yeah.) It is just the best to take that time to reconnect and get a glimpse of the people we are outside of our kids. We both love being parents more than anything EVER, but it is hard to put the energy and focus into your marriage that it really deserves on a day-to-day basis when you have small kids and a busy schedule. As we were finishing up breakfast we were joking, "Welp... see ya next time we manage to get away!"
It was a great weekend, but it sure was wonderful to go home to our little critters!! Emilee kept them part of the weekend, and my mom kept them the rest of the time. We got all kinds of awesome pictures like these which had us cracking up:
Face Swap!
Emilee and her sister Bailee even took them to Hattie and Nora's birthday party Saturday morning where I'm pretty sure they had the best time of all.
Kimba sent me this picture, which sums up their relationship perfectly!! They are evenly matched and can fight like siblings, but Logan and Hattie just adore one another.
