LOL.. I wouldn't mind :) I've gotten used to growing old. It would just mean someone loved me enough to put signs up.

Kate, I don't know if I'd want it in my yard. But this year my husband taped a sign to a huge oak tree (my favorite, which I've named Cosmo) on my drive to work, knowing I'd drive home and see it: Happy 50th Ruth. :)

  8. There is nothing like being loved. So Ann here, must be proud and very happy. By the way, I read about your defense of St. Paul's virtues somewhere. I think it must be a great city too. I wish I could visit it some day.

  10. I'm pretty sure someone wanted to "rub it in" a bit... And yeah, turning 50 is really an awful event... In August I turned 58, and that was even worse...

I've done that to my neighbor who turned 80 recently. He was thrilled, took many pictures of the sign (with ballons added), called up his out-of state family to brag about it and was reluctant to take it down the next day...
Having said that - I think I would be embarassed myself.

A few years back my two daughters and my wife turned 21, 30, and 50 all in the same year. All very traumatic ages for different reason.

  13. The meaning is probably tender and thoughtful but its such a huge sign. I would be a bit embarrassed. Since I'm "over the hill" now, my age doesn't bother me much any more. I just keep plugging along.
    Have a great day Kate.

  14. I guess it beats an oversized sign AND a yard full of flamingos!

  15. Hello my loyal friends! I find it fascinating how we all react to this message, so differently. A good number feels that it is a loving expression, which I agree but personally, I would prefer that the expression remain private. My reaction varies about revealing my age--depends upon the audience I guess.

And, Chris and Deb, I read recently that the factory making flamingos just closed. Guess they'll become collectors' items soon!! :>)

  17. I'm not to 50 yet, but know for certain that if we're back in the states when I turn 40 in a couple years, my husband can't WAIT to have a sign in the yard that says "Lordy, Lordy, Lisa's 40!" Sigh...

I dunno, it's the effort that counts, right? Maybe her kids did them....ok, or grandkids.lol.

  19. That would mean my daughter Anne would be living at home 38 years from now, so I think not. On the other hand, I would be 83 and still kicking.....A toss up :

Oh nooo! I don't think I'd want my age advertized to all the neighbors.

  21. I've been thinking about this, and I don't want a fuss about my birthday, but I love to make a GREAT BIG fuss on Ben's and he absolutely HATES it. So I think there's that kind of dynamic going on this household as well???

We do our birthdays very low-keyed - so low we're almost sinking.
