Art journal page - Believe in yourself

Hi everyone,

I'm in love with the latest release and want to share a project that features some of the new stamps. So here's a new art journal page for you.

As a base layer I applied some chalk paints with a brayer. I mixed some blue and yellow tones and really liked how the colors work together. The paints dry very fast, especially when you apply them in a thin layer with the brayer. This helps to avoid getting muddy colors. I added some script stamping in ochre to create just a little more visual texture (not yet in the picture below).

Next, I started to build a cluster that will be my focal point and therefore used scraps and stamps. I stamped the zodiac wheel in brown onto a die cut circle with a notebook edge that I had laying on my desk. It was already colored with an ink spray, but I cannot remember which one. I also found another scrap that I wanted to use. It had a beautiful stain of some oxide ink and a torn edge on one side. I simply stamped the eclipse chart on top and inked the straight edges.

The cluster needed something more and I added some torn book pages with inked edges to it as well as a piece of lace. This is hardly visible, both in the picture and in reality, but it adds some nice texture to the project. I glued the cluster down and added some splatters with acrylic ink.

At this point I liked my cluster, but also felt that there was something missing regarding my whole composition. I thought it would be nice if I had added the fortune teller stamp before I glued down my cluster. So I cheated a little and used my favorite fixing trick. I stamped her onto a piece of white napkin (make sure to use just one layer) and glued that down with matte medium, slightly under the circle so that it looks as if she is behind that. Luckily, I had a background that was not reacting with wet medium. The edges of the napkin turned almost invisible.

To finish the page, I stamped the quote "believe in yourself" and called this page done.

Here are a few more photos of the finished page:

Make N Take + Video

Hello friends!

I want to share two more things today... (check out the winner from our September Challenge earlier today!)

1) Our Free Demo from the weekend! Each month on the first Sunday I gather all my supplies and head down to The Crafting Place (On Russel by the airport) and we do a big make n take where everyone plays with my supplies and we create a tag. We always explore a new mixed media technique; paper, inks, mists, water, paints, stamping, etc.

For October I took it a bit towards the Spooky Halloween side and we did ... THIS:

This month I chose to demonstrate that it's ok to mix inks and mediums by different companies.. even MISTS (Yes, they all spray, but no, you don't have to ONLY use Tattered Angels or ONLY use Radiant Rains or ONLY use Mr. Hueys.) So we worked a while playing in the background which was created with Distress Stain (Wild Honey), Radiant Rains (Persimmon), Glimmer Mist (Sunflower) and Chalkboard Mist (Salmon) plus water. We then stamped on top with the new Kids in Costumes stamp, the new Spider on Web Line stamp and the French Writing stamp, as well as the recent Coffee Rings Stain stamp.

It was finished with a little doodling using Sakura of America Microns, UmWowStudio BOO Flair and Bat Confetti Chipboard and thread.

2) I also want to share a video that shows the new stamps in wood form and shows them physically rather than just a digital image:

Enjoy!!!

VLVS! and Tags

Hey folks!! DeeDee here :)

Hope your weekend went well! We had some amazing projects over the weekend so if you haven't seen them be sure to go back and look!

Today I'm sharing a set of tags that debuted last week on the May Arts blog. I recently go take a trip to the coast of California and introduce my son to the Pacific Ocean!

He.Loved.IT!

To commemorate the event I made this set of tags:

I grabbed some of my all time favorite VLVS! images:
1.5 x 6.5 - $11.75
3.75 x 4.5 - $15.25
4x4 - $15.50
All of them were stamped with Ranger Archival Ink straight onto the patterned paper or ribbon.
For the faux ribbon tape on the first tag I used Miracle Tape to give the ribbon adhesion. PERFECT!

Other products used: May Arts: XL09 – Ivory Suede Leaves, 393-25-01 – White flowers, EM02 – Ivory Net, and the Ivory Canvas.Paper: Black cardstock, My Mind’s Eye On The Bright Side. Stamps: Other: Pink Paislee Wooden Alphas, Helmar Quick Dry adhesive, double sided tape, Martha Stewart Punch, pearls, brads.

Sneak Peek Pen Nibs and Script!

Hey everybody, DeeDee here today :)

I have a sneak peek of an upcoming event to share with you! I've been working on a lot of "not for the public's eyes" works... publication submissions, future blog hops, and even some collaborations with other artists! Today I'm sharing a sneak peek of a piece involving three different fabulous companies. Of course I had to be there to represent VLVS! and even though you can't see the whole piece yet, you can still marvel at some of the Viva Las VegaStamps! beauty.

To create the corner of this work I used the
and the

I stamped the pen tips in adirondak's Archival Black ink. For the script stamp I inked up the rubber with vintage photo distress stain and then misted it lightly with water. This created a sort of rained on old letter feel. I've also splashed some tattered angels charcoal mist and luminarte's solar gold silks.

I promise you will get to see the rest of this project very soon.. and won't be disappointed!!

A script in use..

This is a project I did for the Basically Bare Design Team.. but I can't not show it here, as it uses one of my FAVORITE all time VLVS! Stamps..

I used it to stamp on chipboard in black memento ink, and also on canvas in memento which I embossed with Ultra High Embossing Powder.
