January 22, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is offering absolutely free tax preparation and e-filing services in East County. Volunteers will staff these locations from February 1, to April 17, 2012.

January 2, 2011 (San Diego’s East County)--Pageant organizers are currently seeking outgoing women ages 13-26 to participate in the 2012 Miss La Mesa and Miss Santee Pageants, programs that have been a tradition in La Mesa and Santee since the late 1960’s.

December 11, 2011, (La Mesa) -- In 2012, the City of La Mesa will celebrate its Centennial. The City is requesting both current and past residents to “Share Your Story” with us. Perhaps it is a story about growing up as a child in La Mesa, or hearing your grandparents talk about our town or perhaps it is why you decided to raise a family here. “Please tell us why you care about La Mesa as a community and help us celebrate the American Hometown!” a release from the City asks.

December 1, 2011 (La Mesa) -- Clare Crawford, Executive Director of the Center on Policy Initiatives, will address the La Mesa-Foothills Democratic Club about the 2008 economic meltdown and its effect on our community. The event will take place at the La Mesa Community Center, 4975 Memorial Drive in La Mesa on December 7 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. during the Club’s holiday party. All community members are invited to attend this free event.

New initiative encourages seniors and their loved ones to ‘use their voice’ to advocate on important issues through workshops and social media 

November 15, 2011 (La Mesa) -- Don’t waste your Thanksgiving leftovers or risk clogging drains to dispose of grease! You can now drop off used cooking oil and grease for recycling at the EDCO Station in La Mesa or four other EDCO recycling buyback centers in the county. 

This free service is provided by EDCO and New Leaf Biofuel, both locally-owned companies.

November 10, 2011 (El Cajon) -- The community is invited to attend a special event celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Boys & Girls Clubs of East County on Thursday, November 17, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the El Cajon Clubhouse, 1171 East Madison Avenue, (next to Wells Park) in El Cajon. Members of the community, government leaders, BGCEC Board members, major sponsors, parents and children will attend a special open house and tour of the El Cajon Clubhouse. 

 October 20, 2011 (San Diego’s East County)--The American Society of Interior Designers’ self-guided Kitchen Tour, set for Saturday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will showcase 14 beautifully remodeled kitchens in San Diego County -- including several in East County and San Diego's inland regions.  designed by some of the region’s own design stars.
