May 24, 2012 (Julian) – The “Banner Fire” which started at 2:14 p.m.has burned four to five acres thus far east of Julian near the Banner Grade.
“The fire is located in an area known as Cigarette Canyon close to the location of last year’s `Great Fire,’” Battalion Chief Nick Schuler say, adding that the blaze is spreading at a “moderate rate.”

March 16, 2012 -- The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will hold Public Participation Hearings regarding the request of San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Gas Company to establish a Wildfire Expense Balancing Account for recovery of wildfire-related costs. Two hearings will be held on April 5 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the Al Bahr Shriners Center, 5440 Kearny Mesa Rd., San Diego.

December 21, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) –A great way to secure your valuables, particularly in wildfire-prone East County, is to create an underground cache. The same methods can also be used to create a survival cache or time capsule. For extended underground applications we recommend our Seahorse line of cases as the first choice primarily because they are the only cases on the market that are truly rust proof. Even the hinge, latch and handle pins are made in molded resin. This applies to case models SE-120 through SE-720. The larger SE-920 and SE-1220 do have metal screws for the telescopic pull handle assemblies. Even then, the screws are stainless steel, but still not 100% rustproof, especially underground for extended periods of time.

August 12, 2009 (Alpine) – Four small fires are burining along Eastbound Interstate 8 between Old Highway 80 and Tavern Road, near the community of Alpine (TB Map 1233) between the Dunbar and Tavern Road exits.
“The spread of all four fires has been stopped,” CAL FIRE spokesperson Roxanne Provaznik reported at 4:45 p.m. “Two of the fires have been contained.” The largest of the fires is currently under an acre.

May 22, 2009 6 p.m. updated (San Diego's East County) -- A fire burning at Willow Glen Drive and Singing Canyon near Sycuan is now more than 65 acres and 20% contained. Voluntary evacuations have been made along Vista Sierra Drive but no structures have been damaged.

UPDATE MARCH 3, 7 a.m.: Fire officials have reduced the acreage estimate to 77. The fire is now 80% contained with full containment expected by 6 p.m. this evening. March 2, 2009 (Temecula)--A fire urning in the Deluz area of Temecula north of Fallbrook in Riverside County, just one mile from the San Diego County line, has engulfed 100 acres.

October 13 (Campo) 9:30 a.m. -- Three hundred homes have been ordered to evacuate due to a 100-acre wildfire that began at Highway 94 near Shockey Truck Trail. The blaze has burned 100 areas on both sides of 94 and is 50% contained. No structures have been lost. Evacuation centers have been established at at the Potrero Library and Mountain Empire High School.

October 14 (Camp Pendleton) 12:10 p.m. - The third blaze in there weeks to
strike Camp Pendleton has charred over 1,500 acres, forcing evacution of over
4,000 people from Oceanside as well as base housing. Some schools in Oceanside
may be closed tomorrow, ECM has learned.
The Juliet fire forced evacuation of Serra Mesa Housing and San Luis Rey Housing
on the base, authorities at Camp Pendleton told ECM. As flames spread to the
northeast tonight, a second fire broke out near Fallbrook. The City of Oceanside
has announced that mandatory evacuations are now in effect for the East end
of Sleeping Indian to include Wilshire, Indian Trail, Hidden Valley and Camino
Baja Cerro.

October 9, 2008 (Camp Pendleton) 9:30 a.m. -- A wildfire that began late yesterday afternoon at Camp Pendleton is now 100% contained, though firefighters continue to douse hotspots.
"Between 900 and 1,000 acres have burned," Major Kristen Lasica, Public affairs officer told East County Magazine last night. ECM activated our wildfire alert system last night after learning that aircraft including super scoopers were grounded for the night with the fire then 0% contained.
