Heavy Planet Catches Up with The Midnight Ghost Train

The Midnight Ghost Train are bringin' their heavy stoner blues to Europe this spring. This jaunt across the continent is nothing new for these notorious road dogs, and if you're over there I suggest you catch them if you can. We caught up with Steve from the band, and asked him about their new album, the follow up to the much beloved Buffalo, and what they will be playing on this tour. And it sounds like if you can point them in the direction of some chocolate covered bacon, they'd be much obliged.

Heavy Planet (HP)- Last I read you were undecided on a name for the new album, making any headway on that front?
Steve (S)- We think we got it figured out, but not 100% certain on it yet, so it is not yet ready to be unleashed. BUT all the photos for the record are done, and they turned out amazing, we defintley topped the last record photos with this new one.

HP- Got a tentative release date? When you going into the studio?
(S)- We go into the studio immediately after this European tour is over. Still No confirmed release date yet, but it should be sometime around October.

HP- What can fans expect from this album? What will be the fuzz to blues ratio?
(S)- Ha fuzz to blues ratio I dig that. You know, there is actually no fuzz used at all in our band. People are always asking me what kind of fuzz I use, and I'm sorry to disappoint everyone but I don't. I just use a lot of bass in my amps EQ that gives it that more organic fuzzy feel. But anyways this new record is going to be awesome. We defintley have taken a lot more care in the writing process and in crafting the songs. More singing on this record, more structure, better put together songs, better everything. We really wanted to top BUFFALO with this new record, and I think we will have no problem doing that. Its just all around different and better than what we previously have done. Its fresh, very bluesy, and just a more solid rockin out album

HP- This will be the first recorded album with Mike on bass. How will his presence influence the album? (S)- Mike has added an insane amount to this band with his playing. Me and my drummer wrote all the bass parts on our previous records, and to tell you the truth we dont no shit about bass. So having Mike writing this whole record with us has added a completely new deminsion to the rhytham section. The bass lines are smooth as butter, and he is just all around such an awesome addition to this band which will come through very clearly in this upcoming album.
What blues tunes would you like to see get The Midnight Ghost Train Treatment? Any blues covers in your current set? ~None in our current set since we have been working so hard on getting these new songs exactly where we want them to be, so we have been pretty focused on the new record. But yea we have played around with some real cool covers. We do a pretty awesome really heavy version of a Ray Charles song "What I Say" and Muddy Waters "Manish Boy" that we will soon unleash.

HP- You guys are notorious road dogs. You go to chains or try the local flavors? Still into chocolate covered bacon? (S)- We prefer to hit the local spots on the road, we love finding local diners, and local favorite spots, but to tell you the truth for the most part we eat an enormous amount of Subway. But we're done eating at gas station Subways they always are terrible and a huge disappointment. The venues tend to always think crappy pizza is a good idea for us which gets pretty monotonous. Mhhm that chocolate bacon you got us was killer, unfourtunatley we havent come across that again yet.

MIGHTY HIGH to Premiere Brand New Album on Blog Tour Release Party

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

It ain’t politically correct and it ain’t safe, but since when was rock and roll about being correct or safe?

If snotty rebellion, played gloriously loud, with a big nod towards the 70’s legends of Motorhead, Grand Funk and AC/DC is your thing, then Mighty High may have just released your album of the year. Their ode to the epic virtue of cheap weed . . . Legalize Tre Bags.

Already the critics are raving about this blast of irreverent rock from Brooklyn’s finest regressive rock band. Ringmaster hailed Legalize Tre Bags as “a raucous feast of punk, weed, and middle finger attitude, most of all it is a deeply satisfying slab of rousing rock n roll.” The New York Music Daily swears that “if you like New York-centric weed jokes, you will love this album” and Jersey Beat raves that Legalize Tre Bags is “a gloriously loud blast of trashy’n’thrashy bluesy rock’n’roll .”

Now it’s time for you to find out what all the fuss is about.

Hot on the heels of Ripple Music’s international release of Legalize Tre Bags, Mighty High and Ripple Music offer you the opportunity to hear the whole album, and visit some great rock music sites to boot. Ripple Music has teamed with the finest leaders in heavy music journalism, The Soda Shop, Heavy Planet, Cosmic Lava, Grip of Delusion Radio, and The Ripple Effect, to bring you Ripple Music’s first ever Blog Tour Album Release Party.

Starting over at the Soda Shop on Tuesday, June 26th, you’ll be able to preview the first three songs on the forthcoming Legalize Tre Bags. Wednesday, the party moves over to Heavy Planet where three more songs will be debuted. Thursday, the gig is at Cosmic Lava for three more songs before the whole things winds up Friday at The Ripple Effect with the epic finale. Throughout the week, tune into Grip of Delusion Radio where Mighty High will be in frequent rotation. A smorgasbord of Mighty High madness.

Don’t miss the album that Heavy Metal Time Machine says stirs “together some classic rock riffs, punk rock energy and stoner rock madness to serve up some of the catchiest rock to come down the pike in some time.”

MASTODON To Play New Album In Its Entirety On Upcoming Tour

According to Billboard.com, Atlanta-based progressive metal band MASTODON will perform its new album, "Crack the Skye", in its entirety on the group's upcoming tour.

The complete album performance is something new for the group, says bassist Bill Kelliher, but "there's something about ["Crack The Skye"] where it would be weird to leave a song out. We'll incorporate a whole stage show, which will hopefully make it even more exciting for kids to come see and more visually stimulating." The band is also hoping to make a short movie from all the songs, which Kelliher hopes will be MASTODON's version of "The Wall".

CROWBAR Frontman: 'We Will Be Putting Out A New CD And Touring Endlessly'

CROWBAR guitarist/vocalist Kirk Windstein has posted the following message on the band's official web site:

"Hey, rockers and rockettes. It's been a while since I made a post on here, but I feel it's time to let you know what's going on. I've got about eight songs' worth of riffs written so far and will be jamming with Tommy [Buckley, drums] and Pat [Patrick Bruders, bass] soon on these ideas.

"2009 will be the 20th anniversary of CROWBAR!!! We will be putting out a new CD and tour[ing] endlessly on this thing. I literally want to play every country that's got electricity!!!

"Believe me, CROWBAR is far from over. It will never die as long as I'm walking this Earth. So be prepared for the heaviest band in the world to destroy your senses very soon.

"As always, thanks to the legions of underground fans who have loyally supported us for the last 19 years. Year 20 will be the biggest yet."

Metal Mind Productions re-released three CROWBAR albums — "Crowbar" (1993), "Time Heals Nothing" (1995) and "Live+1" EP (1995) — in Europe on April 21. Each limited-edition digipack title (limited to 2,000 copies) was made available on golden disc, digitally remastered using 24-bit technology. The "Time Heals Nothing" album also contains six bonus tracks — four audio and two video.

CROWBAR's video for the song "Slave No More" can be viewed below. The clip was included on the band's DVD, "Live: With Full Force", which came out in North America in January 2007. Filmed at the popular German open-air festival of the same name, "Live: With Full Force" was captured on CROWBAR's world tour supporting their 2005 release "Lifesblood for the Downtrodden". The live performance DVD also includes candid backstage footage plus the band's second (and previously unavailable) promotional video for "Lifesblood for the Downtrodden" album track "Slave No More".

Commented Goss: "I sincerely regret if the tour's delay is causing any inconvenience and disappointment. I can only say that I have not stopped and cannot stop writing new music for the album. I believe it is our best work to date. We will bring this on large and correctly; both in album form and in the live arena. The summer will bring the album. The autumn will bring a MASTERS OF REALITY tour of a quality I've waited my whole life to present to you."
