«Point of No Return»

Here it is... I've reached the point of no return.

Official Virgin Age Meter

To some virginity is virtue. They've had the opportunity but through power of self discipline they abstained, for an ideological or religious reason. Not me. I don't have any unrealistic vision of finding "the one". There are many compatible people out there, and none of them are perfect. And like anything you do for the first time, it's going to be awkward and clumsy.

I've simply been unable to form a basic romantic social bond with anyone. Therein lies the problem. Virginity is but one metric to measure one's life by. It is by far not the only metric I fail at though. Social inability affects all aspects of my life. I am beyond saving.

"Happy" birthday to me.

«Motivational Monday: Valentine's Day»

Yet Another Valentine's Day. Haven't I had enough of these alone?

While this is now the 4th year I've blogged about it, it's actually my 24th Valentine's Day alone. Admittedly the first years of my life don't really count because I was too young anyway. But really? I'm 24 and still don't have anyone to properly enjoy Valentine's Day with? Sad but true.

Valentine's Day / making single people feel like shit since 496 AD

At least my utter hatred of this day has subsided into bitter apathy.

«A Roommate's Thanksgiving»

It's the US holiday Thanksgiving today. Though I'm not with my own family, this year I have something to be thankful for: I'm not in Ketchikan. And that is something worth being thankful for.

I won't be alone. My roommate's dad and sister will be here, as well as my roommate himself (duh).

«Resuming Minecraft»

Happy Halloween!

Halloween officially started in Sweden at 4:00 PM in my timezone yesterday. The Minecraft Halloween update was on time. That means I can finally start my new world and begin my mega-project I've been planning.

I'm still keeping my old save, but I wanted to start a new world to take advantage of the new biomes feature. Deserts and forests and tundra, oh my!

I generated a few worlds and explored a little to get the feel of Biomes. I finally settled on this world to start my mega-project in. This world has not generated any snowy biomes yet. If you look close you can see parts of a large circle towards the center of the map. It's the outline of my mega-project.

Yeah, Halloween decorations with happy faces just shouldn't exist... Yet that's all you ever see anymore.

«That Time of Year Again»

Now I'm going to need to remember to answer 24 instead of 23 when someone asks me my age. Crap. Birthdays come too quickly.

Anyone want to get an AR.Drone for a last-minute birthday present for me? Anyone? No? Well... I may have to buy it myself then. I've been looking into getting one since I first heard of it. I already have the iPhone to control it.

«2010 4th of July Parade (Photo Heavy)»

The annual 4th of July parade in Ketchikan, Alaska. Although judging by how it started, I almost thought I was in Iraq or Afghanistan with all the armed soldiers marching down the street. Click an image to view full.
Armed soldiers
Then it appeared I was in Canada.
Canadian Mounties
Prince Rupert, BC to be exact.

Or maybe I was in Scotland? I vote the Misty Thistle Pipes and Drums as the best performance in the parade.

Now I appear to be watching a political rally. There were floats for both Bill Walker and Lisa Murkowski (not pictured). I vote the Bill Walker float as the ugliest in the parade.

Wait, did I take a wrong turn and end up on the highway to Hell? Seriously, why was this even in the parade?
Satan
*sigh* Advertising for the new Twili- WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING DRIVING THE TRUCK!?
Twilight Eclipse, and an alien driver
The Ketchikan Fire Department at their best.
Small fire truck
A McDonald's meal, in MY parade? It's more likely than you think... At least I know I'm in America now, where the fast food goes strait to the hips.
Ketchikan Area Arts & Humanities Council
After the parade there were hordes of people at the booths. I'm not sure why, all the booths were pretty lame.
Booth crowds
You may notice these pictures were taken in 2 different locations. I watched the parade where it first started. Then I walked through town, catching back up to the beginning of the parade and watched it again. Yeah... I had nothing better to do that day.

«The Bagpipes (with Video)»

Friggin' bagpipes man, I'm going insane!

I live fairly close to where all the Independence Day festivities are happening this year. For the past 3 days now, I've been hearing the faint sound of bagpipe music. It seems to ebb and flow, and when I can't actually hear it, I'm imagining it. It's like it continues to play in my head even after it's stopped. When I'm actually down there amongst the festivities there's usually some other music playing, completely unrelated to bagpipes.

I know there was a guy in town that would drive his truck back and forth through town with his windows down, blaring bagpipe music. He use to do it all summer. For the sake of my sanity, I was hoping it was him I was hearing.

I do like bagpipe music, it's an amazing instrument. But randomly hearing it all the time without any logical source leads to insanity. Yesterday I finally found a source. It doesn't explain why I've been hearing bagpipes all day for 3 days, but I still feel better. They are the Misty Thistle Pipes & Drums, local here in Ketchikan, Alaska.

Yes, they're playing out in the rain. Like true Ketchikanites, they don't let a little rain stop them.

This is my first upload to YouTube. I recorded a song they performed in the Plaza yesterday (July 3rd, 2010) outside the AT&T store.

«Nothing Has Changed»

Good thing I didn't expect anything to change.

By now, it probably wouldn't even surprise you that I'm still using the same desktop background from my first post about Valentine's day back in 2008. Even back when I posted that, I had already been using the background for over a year.

So while it's not a desktop background, here's a different picture for you all to see.

«You Are Now Aware»

So I actually went out and did something with a couple friends last night. Although to be honest, we didn't really care about New Year's. We didn't do a countdown or anything.

One of us just noticed that it's after midnight, "Oh. Happy New Year's guys." Anyone has any stories of their own from last night to tell?

I have to say this... You are now aware that 2000 was 10 years ago, and 1990 was 20 years ago. You are also aware that your jaw has weight and you're holding it up, and you now have a random itch somewhere on your body.

Also, The Game.

«Borderpost»

...Because it borders the next year... Yeah ok, that one's a stretch.

Last post of the year, and I'm too busy playing Borderlands to bother to write a meaningful post. Yeah, I just got Borderlands.

So umm, have fun with whatever you're doing for new years!

«What Christmas Means To Me»

Wow. After writing that title, I feel like I'm back in school doing an English class assignment. Brings back bad memories...

For those of you who are new, or just haven't read any of the posts that I mentioned it, I am an atheist. As such, Christmas has no spiritual meaning to me. While I think my basic beliefs (or rather, lack there of) are fairly typical of most atheists, I am an individual. As such, a few of my feelings are probably a bit atypical1.

I subscribe to a life outlook similar to that of Nihilism. That being nothing has any inherent value or purpose. Things are only worth what we feel they are worth. With no grand creator or "plan", life has only the meaning we ourselves give it. It's a humbling, yet empowering thought. I like it that way. It means I'm not just a pawn in some grand scheme.

So, when the holiday season wraps around, I know these days are fundamentally no different from any other time of the year. The society I live in arbitrarily gives Christmas special meaning, but I personally don't.

So if you're one of the ones who gives Christmas a special meaning, merry Christmas to you. And for those with a similar outlook as I have, have a great Friday and enjoy the pretty lights your neighbor put up!

1: This is basically a disclaimer saying that I speak only for myself, not for all atheists.

«Santa Claus is Coming To Town»

Creepy Santa ClausThe Christmas jingle "Santa Claus is Coming To Town" is a horrifying song if you pay attention to the lyrics:

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why

The song starts off with a warning, and with good cause...

Santa Claus is coming to town

You mean that big fay guy who breaks into your house, and then justifies his actions by leaving a couple worthless trinkets under your tree?

He's making a list
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice
Santa Claus is coming to town

He's coming to your town, making a list of victims. He's especially looking for the naughty girls...

He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!

Holy crap. That doesn't even need commentary to explain how creepy that is... Can we say "stalker"?

O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town

Damn straight you better watch out!

So let me get this straight... This song is about a big fat guy who breaks into your house and bribes your children with toys... Then he stalks your children all year, looking for the "naughty" ones. He then keeps a list of who's "naughty". Worst of all, he knows where you live! Doesn't anyone see a problem with that!?

«Improv Bell Ringers»

They've found the solution to the holiday bell ringer problem!

Guerrilla Handbell Strikeforce

Actually play a tune! Now wasn't that better than just ringing an annoying bell?

The actual bell ringer guy had no idea this was going to happen. This was another episode from the Improv Everywhere crew. Just like the food court musical and the Human Mirror on the subways. They pre-plan something and perform it without anyone in the area knowing it's about to happen.
