Starring Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schrieber, Brian D’Arcy James and Stanley Tucci, SPOTLIGHT tells the riveting true story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe investigation that would rock the city and cause a crisis in one of the world’s oldest and most trusted institutions. When the newspaper’s tenacious “Spotlight” team of reporters delve into allegations of abuse in the Catholic Church, their year-long investigation uncovers a decades-long cover-up at the highest levels of Boston's religious, legal, and government establishment, touching off a wave of revelations around the world. Directed by Academy Award-nominee Thomas McCarthy, SPOTLIGHT is a tense investigative thriller, tracing the steps to one of the biggest crime stories in modern times.

It was difficult to watch this week’s movie masterpiece, Spotlight. And I almost wish that I could leave the review at that. Tells you everything you need to know. It’s a great movie. It’s getting wonderful awards buzz. Also, thinking about it literally kept me up at night. But, maybe the lost sleep part is just me, and it is a great film, so let’s press on.

Spotlight is about the investigation of the child molestation cases in Boston as it relates to the Catholic Archdiocese, and, specifically, Cardinal Bernard Law’s handling of the offending clergy. And I knew that going in. It’s a difficult topic. I’m a parent. So, I knew what to expect. I was drawn in by the top notch cast. Can’t pass up Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Stanley Tucci and Liev Schreiber all in the same film.

The cast was awesome. It’s one of the best ensembles I have seen on screen. No star shone brighter than any other, but all delivered very strong performances. My only critique of the cast was Ruffalo’s facial expressions. The audience might notice he’s trying to do something with his mouth. It’s sort of exaggerated, and a little distracting. Look beyond that.

I appreciated the methodical pace of the film. Given the topic, it was important to go slow. I was able to process all of the horrible allegations one at a time. I think this respects the audience and the victims of the story. It also gives the audience a realistic view of print reporting. Before everyone read everything online, newspapers could take months to delve into one newsworthy story.

It’s the best movies that leave some impression on the audience. Since watching Spotlight, I have had many conversations with friends about the subject of the film. The topic is mature, so be ready for that. I am putting Spotlight up there with the best movies of the year. See Spotlight when it opens at a theater near you.

Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Avengers : Age of Ultron is the newest superhero movie in the Marvel world of movies based on comic books. The film brings back returning favorites Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Anthony Mackie as Falcon. To the favorites, this film adds Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlett Witch and Paul Bettany as The Vision. Oh yes, and Don Cheadle is in the film as War Machine. I think that is everyone. The film is chock-full of superheros. Everyone is bound to find a favorite. How many superheros is that? Did anyone keep count? Eleven. If you’re thinking that’s a lot of Avengers, it is, but in this newest installment, they must all work together to defeat a villain intending to annihilate the human race into extinction. James Spader plays the voice of this film’s baddie, Ultron.

Avengers : Age of Ultron is a lot of fun and visually exciting. If you’ve seen any of the movies in the Marvel cinematic universe, you HAVE to see this. The films each build on each other and there are a lot more of these films slated for the future. To miss this edition would be to miss a key part of the superhero saga. I think that as they go on, the director, Joss Whedon, is amping-up his game to keep the audience interested. This latest edition certainly lives up to the hype. Go see it as soon as you’re done with this review. If you wait, someone who has seen it will surely spoil some of the film’s gems for you. I don’t want to spoil any of the movie, so I am going to keep this brief.

The humor is witty and smart. It’s everywhere. It challenges the audience to really pay attention to the little details. One of the funniest moments is brought on by a glance from one of the Avengers. I appreciated that. If you look away from the screen to take a sip of your movie beverage, everyone else will laugh and you won’t know what happens. So stay alert. Also, be alert for Stan Lee’s cameo. I appreciate when the audience has to work to find him.

The action is so much fun. I love when the Avengers take their defensive-stance in a circle. You know the action that follows is going to amazing when the Avengers stand like that. My kids were regularly throwing fist pumps in the air out of excitement. I saw this film in 3D. It was fun in 3D, but I don’t think that you have to pay the up charge to enjoy the film. So keep that in mind.

This film is unique in that it offers arcs into the minds of many of the Avengers. Think mini movies. I was especially interested in Black Widow’s mini movie because it offers portions of her origin story. Thor’s arc is also great.

The only thing that really bothered me about the film was the opening scene. Something was off in the visual effects. Thor looked like a cartoon for a second. No complaints about anything else. So, go see it. Take the family. The action is mild enough for people of all ages. Thanks to Captain America, the Avengers are even watching their language. I am sure that you won’t be disappointed. But don’t take my word for it, See Avengers : Age of Ultron for yourself in theaters now.

* Don’t forget, when the credits start to roll, stay in your seat or you’ll miss it… What will you miss? Stay in your seat if you want to be in the know.

Storyline: The latest film from writer-director John Carney (ONCE), BEGIN AGAIN is a soul-stirring comedy about what happens when lost souls meet and make beautiful music together. Gretta (Keira Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) are college sweethearts and songwriting partners who decamp for New York when he lands a deal with a major label. But the trappings of his new-found fame soon tempt Dave to stray, and a reeling, lovelorn Gretta is left on her own. Her world takes a turn for the better when Dan (Mark Ruffalo), a disgraced record-label exec, stumbles upon her performing on an East Village stage and is immediately captivated by her raw talent. From this chance encounter emerges an enchanting portrait of a mutually transformative collaboration, set to the soundtrack of a summer in New York City. BEGIN AGAIN is produced and financed by Exclusive Media and produced by Anthony Bregman, Tobin Armbrust and Judd Apatow.

Begin Again is a great movie to see this summer with friends or as a date-night choice with your significant other. The film caters to everyone. It has the right blend of romance, drama, music and laughter to satisfy any movie goer. I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end.

The film follows Gretta (Kiera Knightley) who packed up with her boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) to move to New York when Dave gets a major record deal. Everything seems to be working out but little by little Dave’s work schedule and new-found fame begin to affect their relationship. Then one day Gretta figures out something about Dave and leaves him. She sets off to find her old friend Steve and stays with him until she can fly back to Europe. Steve takes Gretta with him to an open mic night he is a regular at and like a good friend that he is, he puts Gretta on the spot. Gretta ends up singing one of her own songs that she wrote and as fate would have it. Dan a record label executive happens to be drowning his sorrows away that night at the same location hears Gretta singing. Dan is immediately inspired and can pictured Gretta going far with her music.

Yes Dan is or was this big shot record executive, but drinking has ruin his career. He has been kicked out of his own company he started with a friend. Even his relationship with his daughter is hardly existent. But running into Gretta has inspired him and when he convinces Gretta not to leave and stay and work with him in creating her music, Gretta ends up trusting in him and stays. This is when the real magic begins. They come up with this awesome idea to record her original songs outside in different areas of New York City. When this happens, it takes the movie to a whole other level of awesome. When that moment begins its sets off other things in motion and you’ll have to watch the film to see what happens next with everyone.

Everyone brought something great to their characters and the music was fantastic. Keira Knightley has a pretty great voice and we all know that Adam Levin can sing. Cee Lo shows off his funny side and the snarky lines from Mark Ruffalo are on point. Like I mentioned before, it’s a movie from everyone. I left the theater wanting to see the movie again. Your summer-fall-in-love movie.
