FYA Book Club: February Recap

© Katie

It's a new year and a new start for Forever Young Adult Book Club!

Starting this year, I will try my best to do a recap of our book club meetups. As this is my first meetup for the year, I really didn't get to read any book nor the club... Regardless, for February’s meetup, we met up Saturday, Feb. 4th at Hollywood Vine on Hollywood BLVD. We've previously met there before as it's a nice environment to host a book club meeting. It's nice to hangout with fellow booknerds and just talk about upcoming YA books and well, wine. Who doesn't like wine?? Plus, there were book exchanges, we are always up for that! GIVE ME ALL THE BOOKS! Thanks, Aurora, for always getting us together.

Although no books were read at this meetup for discussion, we decided to pick a book that I've not read yet for next month. So March's book is....

Caraval
Caraval #1
Author: Stephanie Garber
Release Date: January 31st 2017
Publisher: Flatiron Books

Whatever you've heard about Caraval, it doesn't compare to the reality. It's more than just a game or a performance. It's the closest you'll ever find to magic in this world . . .

Welcome, welcome to Caraval—Stephanie Garber’s sweeping tale of two sisters who escape their ruthless father when they enter the dangerous intrigue of a legendary game.

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

During my visit at ALA last year, I received a copy of this book. Since work has been keeping me extremely busy, with 12-15 hours a day, I haven't been able to read it. I am glad for March's pick and I cannot wait to read it.

So be sure to check back for our FYA Book Club March Recap at TY Park!

APOLLYCON 2017 Blog Tour - Anna Todd Spotlight Guest Post + Giveaway

We are so excited to spotlight Anna Todd, one of many Apollycon 2017 attending authors. If you haven't read any of her books, now is the time to pick her infamously favored series, After.

Thing you're most excited about for Apollycon 2017

I’m the most excited to meet the readers and hang out with all of the authors. I’ve never been to Apollycon before and I’m so, so excited and honored to even be invited! I can’t wait. Plus, it’s in Florida, so the weather should be great.

Last book you read:
I’m finishing The Summer Garden by Paullina Simons right now and I’m so not ready for this story to be over. The Summer Garden is the third book in the Bronze Horseman Trilogy and it’s one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. Shura, the main male character, has quickly made his way to my top 3 favorite book characters OF ALL TIME. This trilogy is so heartbreaking and beautiful and so poetically written and the emotions just jump off of the page. I have been stalling to finish it because I’m not ready to say goodbye to Tatiana and Shura. *cries*

Last thing that made you cry:
The book I mentioned above :P During the first one, I cried  a little, it was sad, but the second and third were even worse. I’ve been tortured by this author, but I’ve loved every second of it.

Best moment as an author:
I have so many amazing moments as an author. I still can’t believe that I’m even an author! I could have never imagined my life to turn out this way and I have to pinch myself at least once a week. If I had to choose, I would say that my favorite moments are when I hear from readers that my books have made them read more, or even write their own stories. There’s nothing better to me than my words somehow inspiring someone.

Favorite place in the world:
My house. I just moved to Los Angeles from Austin and since the move, I’ve been traveling most of the time. Well, this whole year I’ve been traveling :P I love to travel and to meet so many amazing readers from around the world and I’m already filling up my schedule for next year, but I sort of forgot how much I love quiet nights in. My perfect night would be drinking wine with my husband and watching t.v.

ANNA TODD is a first-time writer spending her days in the Austin area with her husband, with whom she beat half the statistics by getting married one month after graduating high school. Between her husband's three deployments to Iraq, she worked odd jobs from a makeup counter to the IRS processing counter. Anna was always an avid reader and boy band and romance lover, so now that she’s found a way to combine the three she’s enjoying living a real-life dream come true.

Book Event Recap: @AbbiGlines at @BooksandBooks!

If you live in South Florida then you know it is a very rare thing when we get any New Adult author to visit us much less an actual book event. We usually have to settle for a con style event, but hey we won’t complain because that just means we get to meet a bunch of really awesome authors all at once. Back to the topic at hand, the wonderful team over at Atria Books decided to send the amazing Abbi Glines to our local indie store and we honestly couldn’t have been more excited. Not only was she coming to do an event down here, we were lucky enough to get to interview her beforehand.

Guys, I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was. I’ve been following Abbi’s work from the very start and the last time I saw her was in 2013! You can pretty much guarantee I cleared out a good stack of books from my bookshelves to take with me for her to sign. My shoulders weren’t very happy with me, but a little pain is worth having my entire collection signed and personalized!

Below you’ll fine our complete interview with Abbi as well as some pictures we took during the event.

Having that one on one time with her was everything I hoped for. I might've wanted to push more for that Jimmy book (Raise your hand if you still think Jimmy needs his own book.), but we've been with this series for a while now so I understand where she's coming from. On that note though I am insanely excited about the possibility of a spin off with those characters we got a glimpse of at the end of Until The End. If you don't know what I'm talking about GET ON IT RIGHT NOW! I expect a thank you basket in return, :D

We loved getting to host Abbi and hope to see her back here again.
